Ohh god ...
I think I did something...
But just not the right thing 😂😂!?

bizzey · 23/10/2024 02:26

It is basically a blow torch for cooking !
Ds and gf will love it !

I didn't really want to go down the easy route of joint /house presents for them ....but this looked something they would be fun with !

bizzey · 23/10/2024 02:28

My minimuistist Christmas spending...has gone to pot already 🤩🤩!

bizzey · 23/10/2024 02:33

OMG havoc ..that is so cute ...

Would he like a photo a real life one !
I can pop to the end of the end of the road and get one 🥰.

mathanxiety · 23/10/2024 02:38

Glad you're continuing to recover, penguinsa, and hope DD is having the time of her life. One of my DDs had a friend who rowed at university, who tried to persuade DD to do coxing as DD was very much a featherweight. DD turned down the offer as it required early starts and she's a girl who always liked her bed.

havoc fingers crossed you're all well soon.

I've finally shaken off the dratted cold (flu?) that I had.

The autumn colours are lovely here, but we're going to have showers in a few days, which will knock many of the leaves out of the trees. It's so warm I've been able to leave the windows open overnight. There are Hallowe'en decorations all over town, with many half devoured pumpkins on many a front stoop, and many chunky squirrels looking very pleased with tbemselves.

Early voting has opened, and DD went today to vote, very pleased to have a woman to vote for for president. She was too young to vote in 2016.

Belated birthday wishes, Uman - is that a little tin of sardines decorating the side of the cake?

Mumtobabyhavoc · 23/10/2024 07:19

Bizzey, that's one scary looking link. Totally sus if it were anyone else... 😂
Do the busses still look like that there! I though it was just tv nostalgia now!

Math, glad you're feeling better! Not just a woman, but someone sane. The clips I'm seeing on the news re opponent's speeches/interviews are shocking.

Havoc doesn't have a fever, but is very unsettled. Won't tell me what's wrong and crying. I'm at a loss right now.

Deathraystare · 23/10/2024 08:39

@bizzey ·
Nahh ..forgotten already !
Just call me Dory 😂😂😜🤩

Me too! I am like that. I sit at my computer at work and do whatever I need to do to set the printer up. When I turn around to put my code number in the machine, in the few steps it takes to get up and turn around (printer behind me), I forget what I have got up for!

@mathanxiety

Hmm cannot say we were exactly thrilled with our choice of female prime ministers! Glad you have shaken off your cold.

Deathraystare · 23/10/2024 13:35

Charlie the hospital cat has just been carried out of the kitchen by the chef. I think he has a breakfast there but pushes his luck with lunch!

bizzey · 23/10/2024 15:50

Havoc ..i am still in love with the little bus !
Does it play " the wheels on the bus go round and round " song .

Do you have that song over there ?

bizzey · 23/10/2024 15:54

I forgot to tell everyone about my really thing that happened last night....

Brace yourselves .....

My back gate has fallen off/fallen apart !!! 😂🤦😢!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 23/10/2024 18:29

Bizzey, yes, we have that song. Havoc sang it, or wanted me to sing or play it on YT daily for about 8 months starting last year. 🤦‍♀️
Too bad I can't make a sound clip to post here. I might have to use google to identify the tune to see if it's a real song or not.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 23/10/2024 18:46

Siri tells me it sounds like:

sproutsandparsnips · 23/10/2024 22:23

@Mumtobabyhavoc my DSs both had (the same) bus toy similar to that but had alphabet and numbers on it and played tunes. Good luck to your mum.
@bizzey love your posts so much!
@bizzey and @Deathraystare I forget things within a few seconds too!
@DandyDandylion it sounds lovely what you have done for FIL but I get you want to do it before other things.
@mathanxiety I love the autumn so much. Glad you are feeling better.
@MissConductUS such beautiful pictures.
@Penguinsa glad DD is enjoying, she sounds amazing.
@ShoesOnFirstThenCar sorry you couldn't do much but hope you could relax. Hope DH is feeling better.
DS has had an offer for his non medicine choice. Feels like we are getting somewhere.
They are digging up the road on to which our road leads. We have been told we will not be able to get out tomorrow between 8-4. I will go out early and do swimming first. I will have to find an alternative spot to put my car away from our street on Friday as road closed when I come home.
DS2 had tackling training yesterday and standard training today, both of which made him and his clothes unbelievably dirty as it has been wet have had to rinse the kit for fear of clogging washing machine and wash them separately.

Penguinsa · 23/10/2024 22:34

Hope your Mum's surgery goes well Havoc

Hope your DH gets better soon Shoes

Hospital cat sounds great Death

Hope kitchen goes well MissC and lovely pictures.

Thanks Math Your DD sounds like me at university, much preferred a lie in to 6am rowing.

Congratulations on non medicine offer Sprouts

Heard from DD again, said she's very happy and just talked about social things so asked if any studying was happening and told not much especially in economics, bit more in management. Just getting lots of parties, karaoke, bbq, boyfriend, dinners, matriculation etc.

Been organising things and fence has been done. Floof was very excited when DH got up at 5.45am to go to bathroom and Floof got his tuna early. Then at 6am he started his usual poking of me with the big fluffy paw, and jumping by my head, trying to pull my socks off for about an hour then I forgot I am not allowed to lift things and I picked him up 8kgs of fluff and gave him to DH. No parts of me fell off at least. Then I got DH to open curtains and Floof calmed thinking he could sunbathe. No sun but he's not very intelligent. Fish and chips tonight as ds loves them.

Umanresources · 24/10/2024 00:38

Thank you all for your birthday wishes. My cake did indeed have a tin of sardines on it. It had the three legs of man, because we used to go there for family holidays, Portuguese flag, custard tarts and the sardines because my family live there. The books were Agatha Christie, Little Women and a Chalet School book, I love word puzzles, art, owls and sushi. It was such a perfect cake for me. It was made by my daughter’s friend’s mum.

I got so many fabulous gifts and cards I felt so lucky. I had family and friends there. The younger ones stayed for quite a while and we ended up playing silly board games.

My actual birthday was on Monday and I had even more gifts. I’ve been given a fabulous detailed art course which includes all the materials, although I’ve got lots of art materials of my own. I’m so looking forward to starting it.

We had a lovely games day on my birthday, grazing on left over birthday food, followed by curry night. The next day my youngest grandson was teaching me Portuguese. He didn’t let me get away with sloppy pronunciation and he explained about accents changing the sounds. He’s 7 😄Both grandsons had homework to complete and explained the maths questions and showed me how they had done them. I was very impressed. They have gone back now and the elder one and I always cry when we say goodbye. Hopefully they will be back in summer, for longer.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/10/2024 01:18

Oh, geez... wrote a post then hit search in error, went back and it was gone. In summary:
Sprouts good on DS and DS2. Is that for rugby? Good to swim early.
Penguinsa, DD having fun, hello Floof and you are busy.
Was about to add: I struggle to find good fish & chips. What's your criteria? For me, battered, not greasy, so oil must be fresh, batter not too thick and must be crunchy. Chips must be hot, never greasy and crisp.
Must have malt vinegar for chips. (Sometimes for the batter.) Rarely eat this, so when I do I am picky.

I made a sweet potato soup for dinner. Roasted sweet potatoes then pureed with a bit of salted water from boiling corn on the cob, a knob of fresh ginger and then added a can of coconut milk and blended again. Topped with some of the corn.

My mum is up first for surgery tomorrow. Check-in is at 6:00am.

Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 31: Calmly through the day
Deathraystare · 24/10/2024 07:39

@Penguinsa

Do not lift the Floof up!!!!!!

I said Hi to Charlie the hospital cat this morning as he patrolled the grounds. The canteen does not open until 08.00 so he has a little time to wait. He is not that intelligent because the canteen is not open at the weekends but he still hangs around (though it will be for the wards I guess, just not open to the public). The porters shocked me with their information that so much food waste is chucked. There was me on Tuesday wishing I could have more tomato flan.... they should have given me the whole damn tray!!!!

@Mumtobabyhavoc
That soup looks lovely. I don't really like sweet potato but I tolerate it! I love ginger coconut and sweetcorn though!

@bizzey
I have a feeling your gate was on its last legs anyway for it to to that, otherwise it would be a little odd.

DandyDandylion · 24/10/2024 07:56

Our local playgroup had singing at the end and we seemed add another group to the bus each week. There were dogs, cats and even snails. Obviously the dogs barked, the cats meowed but the snails were silent with much giggling.
I am also in the group who couldn’t imagine getting up at 6am as a student but I admire those who do and wish my own dc we’re more like that.

Must be good to have one in the bag Sprouts hope your ds gets the offer he most wants.

Penguinsa I would be careful feeding your feline overlord early, mine seem to have a built in clock and would definitely expect it early the next day. I wouldn’t worry too much about your dds study habits, getting to where she is will have taken hard work and I am sure will get her head down when she needs to.

Must be hard Uman living away from family but u suppose in this day and age we are lucky to have zoom and FaceTime so we can see regularly.

I agree with your fish and chip description Havic and you have now made me want some. There is a new van which visits on a Wednesday so must ry that next week.

Charlie sounds like a fabulous addition to the hospital Death I wonder is he is equally affectionate at home. I like roasted sweet potatoes, actually prefer them to normal roasties now but don’t eat them otherwise.

I am going to a cinema showing this morning, something I do once a month. There is something nice about being forced to put the phone away and concentrate on something unimportant for an hour or so. Last month I saw the Widow Clicquot which was about a woman who developed techniques to make champagne which are still used today, at a time and place women were mostly not allowed to own businesses.

Deathraystare · 24/10/2024 11:51

@DandyDandylion
Charlie seems to spend all his time at the hospital so not sure!

Hope you enjoy the cinema. My friend goes regularly. Every time we mention a film, she has seen it!!

Umanresources · 24/10/2024 15:46

I am with you @Mumtobabyhavoc re the batter on fish. Our award winning chip shop does ‘lightlys’, which is lightly battered fish. When my OH first moved here in NW England from Surrey he went to the chippy and asked for cod and chips. He was used to having a choice of several fish in his local. He has a different accent to our northern one, (I think he’s posh, but he doesn’t) and the server thought he was asking for a cone of chips, so he repeated ‘cod’. She picked up a cone to show him and he was quite indignant, “I know what a cone is, I just want fish’. He agreed to a ‘lightly’ because he had no idea what that was either. 😂 We’d forgotten he didn’t speak northern.

Hope everything goes well for your mum tomorrow and everyone is on the mend.

@DandyDandylion it’s always such a wrench saying goodbye, but thank goodness we have voice mails, and regular WhatsApp video calls.

I’m feeling slightly flat at the moment; the house seems to be very quiet now, although DD and I were catching up on our reality shows yesterday evening and it was very noisy then!

Penguinsa · 24/10/2024 16:08

That sounds the most wonderful birthday celebration Uman Hope you all get to meet up in the summer too. That cake was seriously impressive.

Havoc Hope your Mums operation has gone smoothly. We are lucky that we have 2 places locally that do amazing fish and chips and a third in the village that does reasonably good fish and chips. Normally the best ones are at the seaside as the fish is freshest but ours are similar to that and lightly battered.

Hope cinema was good Dandy

They should definitely give you more food Death Seems daft to throw it out. Yes I will be avoiding lifting Floof for a while though he's very fluffy when you lift him and docile.

Had sausage sandwiches for lunch and a Portuguese tart. DH left an extra 1.5 sausages downstairs, went to get one for Floof and found DS had eaten them all after eating his sausage sandwich. I am very popular with Floof at the moment as I have an electric heater he loves, still loves heat even with all his fluff.

DS has access to my Amazon account and noticed he had been looking up Starbucks caramel lattes and coffee machines so know what to get him for Christmas. DD used to drink those and she suspected DS drank them too but was never sure. She had iced ones. He also seems to have got 2 painting apps. He never buys anything, only free things.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/10/2024 16:54

Uman, that sounds like a Monty Python sketch!
Dandy, when I was singing it to/with Havoc we added kitties and puppies. ☺️
Penguinsa, mmm caramel. 😛

Was awake at 4:00am, up with baby before 4:30 and we were all off by 6. Just got home to try and rest snd will go back to get my mum around noon/ when I'm called.

ShoesOnFirstThenCar · 24/10/2024 20:32

Penguinsa try and resist the Floof temptation!
Uman sounds like you had a lovely time with family. Thank goodness for FaceTime eh? One of my brothers lives abroad and it’s lovely to “see” him when we chat.
Havoc hope all goes ok with your mum
Dandy hope you enjoyed the cinema, what a lovely way to spend a morning

I spent this morning having online grocery delivery, then the chap came to service the burglar alarm. He was very speedy to be fair.
DD had a harvest service this afternoon, I didn’t go but I’m told she did very well. I will seek out the opinion of a neutral witness for that one! 😁 They had to go dressed as farmers…..apparently that just entails wearing a checked shirt, not sure how many farmers round here dress like that but there we go.

bizzey · 24/10/2024 21:03

@Deathraystare ...the gate was definitely very dodgy !

It never closed properly and always had gap.

He person who fixes things here is coming on Monday to fix the leaking gutters so I presume
he will so something then .

Had a lovely evening last night as ds2 come round a it was his birthday...well plus 1 day !
He invent our with his friends on his actual birthday!

I cooked sea bass, Mediterranean roasted vegetables and rice.

With a sticky salted caramel toffee cake to finish ..( carefully opened And taken out of the box by my own fair hands !,,😂😂!)
