Creepy but not gorey films

If I liked the films The Sixth Sense and the Woman in Black and the book The Turn of the Screw, what other films would I like? I thought the Exorcist and Skeleton Key were alright too but I found the gore element of House of Wax yawntastic. I'm not squeamish so it doesn't really do anything for me in films or books and I can take it or leave it. Usually leave it because I feel like if there is gore then that's the main focus and there isn't much else going on. Not watched any horror in ages but have the urge.

The Blair Witch Project and Cloverfield. Both a complete load of bollocks but fit in that category.

Grazianoscubanheel · 21/07/2024 19:32

Oh and the Christmas film Krampus.

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 21/07/2024 19:48

I suppose the oldies like Halloween and The Fog. Neither are particularly gory but quite scary. The omen as well

Didsomeonesaydogs · 21/07/2024 19:55

Get Out was interesting.

MagicianMoth · 21/07/2024 19:57

I came on to say The Others as well.
The Grudge
The Ring
The Shining

Thirded! Absolutely excellent.
Also, The Babadook. And for something slightly more comedy horror, Happy Death Day.

The Others is pretty creepy and a great plot.

That's just what I was going to say I've not seen it in a while bur it's shuddery creepy. It really unnerved me great film though.

Meowzabubz · 21/07/2024 22:39

Despite it's reputation, the 1st saw movie is fantastic and not really gory. It's more of a thriller than a horror and a brilliantly executed one at that. It's only the later films that capitalise on the idea and shock factor

FloofPaws · 21/07/2024 22:39

Shutter island
Amityville horror
Poltergeist

Agree, creepy and brilliantly atmospheric.

Other classics include Wicker Man and Rosemary’s Baby.

I know it's not a film but I would really recommend The Haunting of Hill House on Netflix if you want a good creepy watch
