She chased him when he was married, leading to his first divorce. He then gets sick so she gets rid

sums her up really

Not true. She wasn’t the OW. He had left his marriage before getting together with Ruth. He’d wanted to move the mainland, his ex wife wanted to stay in N.Ire - that’s what caused the breakdown of his first marriage. He delayed divorce for a very long time due to his mother’s (and ex wife’s) Catholicism.

Shitvenir · 25/05/2024 19:04

Being sick doesn’t make him a nice person though. He’s vile.

I didn't say he was a nice person. I just said that if a man left his wife for being sick, everyone on here would line up to slate him, even if she was an awful person. People on here even defend Katie Price and make her out to be a victim.

So why watch them if it made you "unconfartable??????

I'd normally tune in part way to see if it was going to be Alison and Dermot. Then I'd see it was them and watch a small section before having to turn it over

drusth · 25/05/2024 19:22

But we don’t know she’s left him…it could be the other way round or mutual.

Yeah, that's not true. He'd been divorced a couple of years when they got together.
I like Ruth, I remember her in her TSW days.

But she didn’t necessarily leave him for being sick. Maybe it was her chance to get away. Or maybe he left her? Who knows? If I was married to an odious/abusive man (not saying Eamon is abusive, I don’t know him) I would absolutely grab my chance to gtfo.

ruffler45 · 25/05/2024 19:24

Dont care one way or another, the TV gets turned over when either of them comes on.

Quirkyme · 25/05/2024 19:24

.

SabreIsMyFave · 25/05/2024 19:25

I am actually quite shocked. Been together YEARS haven't they? (Together 13 years before marrying, then married for 14 years I think... So 27 years altogether.) Didn't see it coming. Shocked that she has left now he is ill. It's usually men who leave women when they need care. Women rarely leave men when they do.

I really dislike him though, and am indifferent to her. So I don't really care that they're splitting. People break up, big deal. It's much easier to leave a broken/dead/bad relationship when you're rich/solvent, as you're not stuck together coz you can't afford to leave and be on your own (the reason some couples stay together.)

I think that is why so many celebrity couples split - because they can. If it was easy to leave a marriage and have a nice comfortable life alone after leaving, (like it is for celebrities,) LOADS more couples would split.

Quirkyme · 25/05/2024 19:28

He is an utter asshole. Not shocked by this at all.

Maybe they should have been focusing on their own marriage instead of talking about Megan and Harry's all the time. Look how the tables have turned.

Quirkyme · 25/05/2024 19:29

@bluetopazlove

Many men leave their wives when they are sick actually. It's quite common in rich circles.

beeonmybonnett · 25/05/2024 19:30

Because, there is nothing wrong with some healthy discussion.

But I don’t think it’s fair to speculate on the reasons behind a couple’s divorce. Only they themselves know the true reasons.

Nonewclothes2024 · 25/05/2024 19:32

Oh that's a shame. I like them.

bluetopazlove · 25/05/2024 19:32

I don't know who has been talking about who's marriages I don't pay attention to that stuff .

Frances0911 · 25/05/2024 19:34

Ruth's work on itv seems to have dried up, ever since she and Eammon got a bee in their bonnet over Phillip Schofield.

I wonder if she thinks that Eamonn has damaged her career, though personally I think she acted like a total diva over the fuss she made about him cutting her off that time on Loose Women.

catlady7 · 25/05/2024 19:34

Doesn't surprise me. Don't like either of them. Both annoying

Summertimer · 25/05/2024 19:39

Hmm, I’ve never warmed to him but always wondered if their irascible double act was fake and no representation of their true selves.

Joking I’d say that if she’s going on the pull she’d best not wear that crap stuff she gives her name to on QVC 😉 It’s worse than some Edinburgh Woollen Mills stuff

Owl9to5 · 25/05/2024 19:43

This one surprised me.

YES exactly. A lot fucking harder if you live in social housing

Totally agree. I know a number of people who have admitted to me they would divorce but are worried about the financial implications.

Crikeyalmighty · 25/05/2024 19:54

It's always quite impossible to know the reasoning- as howpeople are on screen or behind the scenes to crew etc , isn't always how they are in private to partners. it may be he's a grumpy old git and she no longer finds it amusing post menopause- just tedious - maybe she had no idea he had such right wing views and it's total turn off- maybe she didn't want sex anymore- and he still does , even with his dodgy legs and back - maybe he's been sexting colleagues, maybe she has - who knows ! Look at mumsnet for the myriad of reasons people split up for after 27 years (I've been married 28)

The thing is at this level you can think 'Sod this, I've had enough' and know you will still have a home you own, plenty of money in the bank and a career of some sorts-

In my view there would be far more splits after this number of years if we were all in that position and mainly initiated by women

It's risky to get divorced when you're a female celebrity at Ruth's age, because you're basically guaranteed to spend the rest of your life alone (unless you somehow manage to find a remote eligible bachelor who isn't famous and doesn't really know who you are, and has their own money, and even then you'll probably be saddled with step grandkids). All the celebrity men the same age are looking for partners a lot younger, and most of the non-famous types are only interested for the money/exposure.

How sexist…maybe she doesn’t want to marry a celebrity again?

Treelichen · 25/05/2024 20:02

He’s a horror. She did well to last this long.
