Came out of nowhere but music planning for friends wedding and Pachabels canon in d came up, and this then brought up Maroon 5 Memories (via Spotify) as chords are replicated so One Voice Children's Choir Covid song came up and showed the isolation we all went through,.my dc was 2 at that point and the song a bit cheesily brings back so many memories of the madness went through!

Landslide- Fleetwood Mac, my Mum played it quite a bit when my Dad left.

She’s Dancing- Brian Kelly, when DH and I were first going out, this was the second time I had gone to stay with him as I lived quite far away, we went to a house party, this came on and we were a bit tipsy and started dancing impromptu, it was intense and if you can feel love exuding through your pores than for both of us it was one of those occasions- so not sad but very emotional! It does make me a bit sad now though as 20 years on and we love each other in a way that is still quite intense but you lament at that time having gone now, the sadness is that will never be again as it was a time and moment in our twenties at the start of our relationship!

Fade Into You - again just younger days with DH, I hadn’t listened to it for ages and then heard DD playing it, so it always reminds me of her ethereal beauty.

This Woman's Work by Kate Bush gets me every time.

But Motorcycle Drive By, by Third Eye Blind reminds me of losing my first love, so is always a bit of a tear jerker too.

Elvis Always on My Mind. It was on a BT advert in the early 90s and I bought the single on cassette in Woolworths. When my Nan died when I was 16 and it took on a whole new meaning.

We’ve just sung Billy Joel’s Lullabye in choir. I can’t get past the third line before turning into a quivering heap.

Can't Help Falling in Love by Elvis reminds me of my dad teaching me how to play it on the piano.

Nearly anything can set me off as I lost my best friend of over 40 years a short time ago and music was such a bit part of our friendship, singing in choirs and playing in orchestras together, along with our shared love of boy bands as teenagers and even the daft songs we'd listen to from our parents' record collections (then hum quietly in lessons at school the next day to try and make each other laugh).

You are my Sunshine my only Sunshine. Have never listened to the song without crying.

Have I told you lately Van Morrison.
I used to have the radio to go to sleep mid 90s divorced, homeless massively not what I had planned when the kids were born and this beautiful piano gently tinkling away and the words.

Same can't listen to this without blubbing, reminds me of my lovely mum so much.

lollipoprainbow · 23/05/2024 01:26

There'll you'll be by Faith Hill.

When my mum was on end of life for dementia I would sit by her bedside and listen to the radio.
This song came on and the words really resonated especially:

"I'll keep a part of you with me and everywhere I am there'll you'll be"

😢😢😢

Elbow ‘One Day Like This’ reduces me to a sobbing wreck. Lots of happy and bittersweet memories.

Edited

We saw Elbow last week and to see One Day Like This live was absolutely incredible. It’s a brilliantly emotive song.

It's a long shot but did the lyrics involve the mermaid having a comb and glass in her hand? If so, it may be an old folk song - https://mainlynorfolk.info/martin.carthy/songs/themermaid.html

Yes it did
I'm about to go into work so will check it out once I'm back home
Thank you-he loved old folk songs!

We playing this at my Grandad’s funeral. He used to sing this a lot. It took a long while for it to stop being a painful song.

Let it Go from Frozen!

It was at its height when I going through my divorce and the kids were still v young and loved it. It was played A LOT. So I embraced it but when it's played now I feel so many emotions again (and the kids look at me like I'm odd)

I came here to say this one but thought it was odd of me as I didn't think it was meant to be taken this way. For a good year I couldn't even listen to it without sobbing which wasn't ideal as it was constantly on in the car and Dd watched it over and over

Atlantic City - Bruce Springsteen

I have no idea why but if I listen to it I end up in tears.

That's the song!

thank you so much!

my grandad brought me up until he died of dementia and i miss him so much-we where everything to each other

i buy things that remind me of him, have passed on daft sayings/stories to my children and i try to live my life in such a way, that he'd be proud of me

Reading the lyrics to that song-i can hear him whistling and singing it,while just doing mundane things round the house with me

You've given me a piece of him back-i cannot thank you enough!

I'm going to share it with my children-in the hope that when I'm gone, they will listen/read it and think of us both

Thank you-you have no idea how much this means to me
