Came out of nowhere but music planning for friends wedding and Pachabels canon in d came up, and this then brought up Maroon 5 Memories (via Spotify) as chords are replicated so One Voice Children's Choir Covid song came up and showed the isolation we all went through,.my dc was 2 at that point and the song a bit cheesily brings back so many memories of the madness went through!

@GreenFairies Who Knew gets me too! Have you seen her sing it live? She’s incredible!

Carry You Home by James Blunt always gets me. And I’m not really a JB fan!
Supermarket Flowers and Visiting Hours by Ed Sheeran hit me on a personal level and I can’t really listen to the lyrics or it sets me off 😔

DirtyCheeseBurger · 22/05/2024 08:06

Slipping through my fingers by ABBA .
Oh dear god.

Clawdy · 22/05/2024 08:11

Macarthur Park by Richard Harris. "After all the loves of my life...."

DesperateBadger · 22/05/2024 08:15

Eternal Flame by The Bangles was number 1 when the Hillsborough disaster happened and it always evokes those sad times for me. Bringing Sexy Back by Justin Timberlake gives me a vague echo of morning sickness because it was on heavy rotation when I spent three months in miserable nausea.

Whatineed · 22/05/2024 08:17

Breathe me - Sia.

LetMeGoogleThat · 22/05/2024 08:18

Wires by Athelete, it was on the radio a lot as my mum was in hospital before she died. All these years on and the line 'first time of your life, curled up on your own' still makes my eyes water 😢

sugarbyebye · 22/05/2024 08:22

Wichita Linesman by Glenn Campbell. No life events attached to it, it’s just a beautifully composed song.

runwithme · 22/05/2024 08:25

Slow by the Fratellis. I found it when randomly searching for anything acoustic by them.

If I go, I'm Going, by Gregory Alan Isakov. Its from the Haunting of Hill House.

SpeculatingRooks · 22/05/2024 08:42

Unique by Andy and the Odd Socks!
It makes my throat ache I could just sob my heart out to it. I think it's supposed to be uplifting!

Also Bright Eyes from Watership Down and The Frog Song!

We went to see them not long ago and he started the intro and there were so many kids in the audience loving the gig - many with neuro diversities - I fell to bits. It's a beautiful song.
And Bright Eyes well can't bare to think about it!

Piano Man
As Time Goes By
Band of Gold
Don't Ask Me Why

Slipping Through My Fingers

SiobhanSharpe · 22/05/2024 10:15

A bit obvious perhaps but 'Time to say Goodbye' by Sarah Brightman and Andrea Bocelli.
Such beautiful voices.

EverythingYouDoIsaBalloon · 22/05/2024 10:19

Edelweiss in Sound of Music. Knowing what evil tragedy is waiting sweeps over me every time.

For me it's the reprise of Climb Every Mountain at the end as they walk to freedom. Instant waterworks.

Also 'Walking in the Air' but only if I'm watching The Snowman. I cry every time they take off and fly. No idea why.

SpeculatingRooks · 22/05/2024 10:20

@Luddite26 ah that's amazing! I've got tears in my eyes just thinking about it 😪

Sharontheodopolodous · 22/05/2024 10:50

Joshua kadison-picture postcards from LA
it's about a young lady who is a waitress, but is told from the point of view of the piano player
She has big dreams of making it in LA,he tells her to go for it and 'send me a picture postcard from LA'
She books her ticket every week, but something stops her everytime and 'still no picture postcard from LA'
It gets me everytime-never give up and never let go like 'rachel' does
I named ds Joshua as I love that song so much

Hallelujah by leonard cohen-it was played at my darling fils funeral
It hits me everytime that he's gone-ill never blush over something he's said or hear his laughter again

My grandad used to sing a song about a mermaid, sat on a rock and brushing her hair
I cannot remember it at all and that hurts so much-its like I've lost a link between us

Frith2013 · 22/05/2024 11:01

We Are the People by Empire of the Sun

Makes me cry every single time.

It's the line "I can't do well when I think you're going to leave me". I knew my ex would leave me in the end and I would be heartbroken. The last time I spoke to him was March 14th and I'm crying just typing about him. And he wasn't even very nice to me!

Also the song about being 7 years old and the children visiting once or twice a month. I was so close to my children (single parent) and my oldest I doubt I see once a month now he's moved out.

I'm quite sad today!

dmell13 · 22/05/2024 11:26

I hope you dance - Lee Ann Womack always gives me a lump in my throat 😢

Mairzydotes · 22/05/2024 20:28

All alone for Christmas - Darlene Love makes me cry.

Someone previously mentioned The Show Must Go On , I find the Roger Taylor version really poignant.

Cowboy Dreams - Jimmy Nail

Seanbeansontoast · 22/05/2024 20:31

Mike and the mechanics, the living years. I can’t listen to it and have tears typing this.

JennyfromtheBlok · 22/05/2024 20:38

Probably not well known.
But Faiths Song, by Amy Wadge

It was theme tune of a BBC drama Keeping Faith i watched when bang in the middle of a sad divorce 😭 and the character Faith was going through a tough time.

I love the song slow.. I found it from the series Kingdom (which is great by the way)

Ihaveneedofwaternear · 22/05/2024 20:40

Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas. "Through the years we all will be together, if the fates allow..." and the wishful refrain of "next year all our troubles will be miles away". Just a very emotive song at a very emotive time of year!

JennyfromtheBlok · 22/05/2024 20:41

Yes to all the Xmas songs.

I love Christmas but also always feel a huge sense of how fortunate we are and almost guilt at what others have to go through.

wizzbitt · 22/05/2024 20:44

Wings by Little Mix (I know 🤦🏿‍♀️) but really makes me well up.
Grandma's Hands by Bill Withers (his voice is like molasses and the story is so moving)
Something inside so strong Labi Siffre for obvious reasons 😭
