Really dislike my child's name

It was chosen in a rush when she was born poorly. My husband loved it and kept calling her it, nothing serious, and I just ran with it when the NICU asked 'does she have a name yet we can write down?'

Anyway, she was registered as that. And she is not too far off school starting age so obviously it cannot be changed fairly

I don't like it because it isn't really an adult's name. It is pretty enough. And it's not awful.

But it is brassy, a lot of people would say!

I just wished I'd given her an adult name that is timeless and classic

My other DC had a classic, timeless name. Suitable for a lawyer

It's Lola. Nothing more annoying than someone not saying what the name actually is! So there you go

DS's name is Marcus and Lawrence

I think it's fine. There's a Lola in DS's class. It's not going to stand out and there will be lawyers called Lola when she's older.

For what it’s worth (and I know it won’t change your opinion), I think it’s really pretty and cool. She may not wish to be a lawyer, and to be honest, even if she does, this current generation is awash with pretty names like that.

Does it suit her?

I love it! It is absolutely fine for an adult too. If she had a sibling called Charlie it would be a bit twee, if she had one called Lulu, Fifi or Tricia, they’d sound like poodles, but Lola is lovely. I associate it with glamorous Italian actresses from the 50’s & 60’s.

I thought it was quite a popular name is fairness but she's the only Lola I know... her nursery class is huge and there are more than 5! Evie/Ellie/Hallie -May. None is DS classes either (there are 2 classes for every year in that school)

I like it, and I usually only like biblical names. I wouldn’t bat an eyelid if my lawyer was called Lola.

No words of a lie, my H loved Fifi for a daughter too. I managed to talk him round to it being a bit too out there for an actual child

Not sure how he managed to go from Marcus and Lawrence to the girls names he wanted. Think Lottie, Fifi, Crystal, Chelly (Chelsea), Bonnie

If you google, there are loads of lawyers called Lola. The name doesn't seem to hold them back.

It's a beautiful name OP. Lawyers are named all sorts. Your Lola can be whatever she wants to be and her lovely name will be completely irrelevant. Nowadays there is such a wide variety of names that no-one will give names a second thought in the workplace.

Enjoy your lovely Lola (and stay off baby names threads on MN! It's easy to go down a rabbit hole stressing about not having given your baby a "timeless, classic" name on here, whereas in RL no-one gives a monkey's!)
