Sainsbury’s online orders cancelled due to technical issues, no warning, anyone else?

First world problems I know… but did anyone have issues with their Sainsbury’s online order not being delivered yesterday?

Mine was expected in morning, DM’s who lives 10 mins away also expected in morning. Didn’t turn up and DM’s friend who’s visiting her today rang and told her she’d been on the phone for an hour to sainsburys and they had technical difficulties and were cancelling orders but no one had told us!

Re-deliveries rescheduled for today but we weren’t happy especially as no one told us.

So do this happen to anyone else? At the end of the day not the end of the world and we both went to Waitrose as we were meeting for clothes shopping anyway.

Literally everyone 😂 Sainsbury’s barely delivered any orders yesterday due to a giant technical glitch. Check out their social media or prior threads on here for more info.

It was a nationwide issue - article about it on BBC news site

Didn’t see news yesterday.

Was there a way for them to tell you personally ? Like did whatever the tech difficulties were prevent them from seeing who/where the orders were going to and the contact details, or was it just a payment type issue? . Obviously they could have done a general announcement on their website and SM, I'm surprised they didn't once it was obvious there was an issue

MintTwirl · 17/03/2024 10:00

It’s literally all over the news and social media.

Whataweirdsituation · 17/03/2024 10:01

@MILLYmo0se they did! It was everywhere yesterday. Because it was such a HUGE number of people they didn’t have capacity to reach out to everyone, though they were trying.

Oh no! I feel your pain to anyone affected. DM was really pissed off, I said come on let’s just go to Waitrose and the big Tescos on the way home if needed too.

We saw a beautiful Cuban taxi vintage in Tescos car park so that made up for things. Very random.

It was everywhere yesterday! There was a message on the app when I checked.

I'm sure I read somewhere that they couldn't actually email customers as part of the issues.

That’s what DM says. She’s annoyed. And thinking of defecting to Ocado. She already has a separate Tescos delivery.

It was indeed all over the news and social media yesterday…

icebearforpresident · 17/03/2024 10:05

I didn’t get my order, no contact because of the issue but I saw it on the news before it was due anyway. Once my delivery slot had passed and they still hadn’t taken payment I rebooked it and managed to get it for later today instead.

I’ve seen threads along these lines before and everyone is going mad - It’s really wasn’t a big deal. I’ll need to go buy some milk later as I will run out before the delivery arrives but no one died so it’s fine.

icebearforpresident · 17/03/2024 10:06

And it was absolutely all over the news and SM yesterday.

I don’t shop at Sainsbury’s but I knew all about it.

they aren’t to blame if you had your head in the sand ignoring the news!

It really was everywhere yesterday, the BBC, Sainsburys own social media plus countless others.

Snackpocket · 17/03/2024 10:08

Yeah it was pretty well publicised yesterday and the message on the Sainsbury’s website and app said they couldn’t contact customers individually.

I find it bizarre people don’t look at companies websites before wasting their time on hold on the phone trying to speak to someone when the information they need is online.

LookItsMeAgain · 17/03/2024 10:08

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 17/03/2024 10:04

I beg to differ. It was the leading story in the BBC news. Knocked Ukraine and Palestine off the lead story.

If a company the size of Sainsbury has orders to get out but due to an IT issue they simply can't, do you mind me asking how you expect them to contact you about your order? Were you expecting a text message? A phone call? Can you imagine how many people they would have to contact and also what about data privacy? Would they be allowed to contact individual customers about this? It was easier for them to go public with the issue and have it on the news. They couldn't help if you didn't turn on a radio or your tv to catch up with the news in your area.
