I am shocked, I was listening to him on Sunday. My heart goes out to his family

That's awful. I always liked hearing him. He was part of my youth and he never changed 😔

GoldenGumballs · 13/02/2024 17:22

So so sad, Sarah ls doing well keeping it together they go back a long way. Soundtrack to my youth loved his Pamela Anderson.

Viewfrommyhouse · 13/02/2024 17:23

And now poor Bobbie struggling to get through the travel news 😭

Klingfilm · 13/02/2024 17:23

Bless them, the team are in pieces. It's making me all emotional.

Dartmoorcheffy · 13/02/2024 17:23

poor Bobbi sounds devastated :(

dapsnotplimsolls · 13/02/2024 17:24

Radio 2 is very tough to listen to right now :(

Aydel · 13/02/2024 17:24

He was part of my yoof with Mike Read doing the Read and Wright show on Radio Reading.

aitchteeaitch · 13/02/2024 17:25

Oh that's so sad, he will be missed. I'd been listening to him for decades.

PuppyMonkey · 13/02/2024 17:25

That’s sad news. I admit I was one of those people who liked to moan about him but to actually hear he’s passed away seems quite surreal. Can’t believe it.

decionsdecisions62 · 13/02/2024 17:28

I loved Steve right. Always easy on the ear. 69 no age but I remember thinking he was overweight and seemed a bit unhealthy until more recently. Anyway thoughts are with his friends and family.

Letmehaveabloodyusernameplease · 13/02/2024 17:30

Sad news 😢

I remember this too - I’m so shocked to hear the news today.

He was part of my yoof with Mike Read doing the Read and Wright show on Radio Reading.

Yes me too!
Radio 210 - Reed and Wright in the Afternoon after school every day.

He must have been pretty young then if only 69 now.

Jellykat · 13/02/2024 17:32

Really shocked, thats shit news, so sudden!
I listened to him last weekend, and listen to radio 2 all day, but hes been around as far back as i can remember in one way or another.
RIP Steve Flowers

the80sweregreat · 13/02/2024 17:32

I feel so sorry for Sara cox and the traffic lady who are so upset ;(
I must admit I didn't like his show much, but I do feel sad for his legion of fans and his family who must be devastated.
You do sometimes feel as if you know these stars even though I never met him
Sad news

OhVienna24 · 13/02/2024 17:32

I feel really sad to hear this news.

exLtEveDallas · 13/02/2024 17:33

Aww he was the sound of my teenage afternoons - Damian the Social Worker, Sid the Manager, Gervais the Hairdresser and Mr Angry from Purley.

Such a shame

the80sweregreat · 13/02/2024 17:35

Dh liked him and I must admit ' the factoids' segment did blow me away with such random facts. The people around him always sounded so happy and motivated.

cheezncrackers · 13/02/2024 17:39

The soundtrack to many a car journey over my lifetime, always cheerful, upbeat, a really good radio DJ, such sad news and only 69 years old. RIP Steve Sad

uncomfortablydumb53 · 13/02/2024 17:46

I really was shocked to read this
He was the soundtrack to my teens, and I saw him at the Radio 1 roadshow at Longleat Great fun
69 is no age
RIP Steve

crumblingschools · 13/02/2024 17:47

In the summer before I went to university I had an admin job in the factory that my DF ran, Steve Wright was played on the factory radio. My DM always did her ironing listening to him. Definitely the soundtrack to my youth 😢

ShowOfHands · 13/02/2024 17:47

My neighbour and I have been arguing about him for years. Neighbour loved his shows and I found his broadcasting style utterly infuriating. Neighbour used to put his show on whenever I was out gardening to wind me up. Particularly on a Sunday morning. It's utterly bizarre to think an absolute stalwart of British radio has gone so suddenly and so young. Even if he wasn't my cup of tea, he's always been there. He's a Dad, a friend and loved by millions.

Listening to poor Sara and Bobbi has been very moving.

Afternoonsnooze · 13/02/2024 17:48

Such a shock. He and so many Radio 2 DJ’s have been the background to my childhood and throughout my life.
Still listen to his Sunday loves songs.
RIP Steve.

MenopauseSucks · 13/02/2024 17:50

Very sad news - his voice brings back such memories of my teens.
Used to listen to Steve Wright in the Afternooon! in the 1980s usually when I was doing my homework.
Mr Angry from Purley & Gervais the Hairdresser were brilliant characters.
