Traitors, is there only me

Just wondered if I’m the only person who hasn’t watched and has no interest in watching traitors, it’s all I see on the main news, most daytime and early evening chat type shows, it’s like an obsession

Join us, jooooiiiin us…..

Whoopsadoodle · 26/01/2024 11:47

I’ve just started season 1….

MrsSkylerWhite · 26/01/2024 11:48

Nope. Hate reality stuff.

EVHead · 26/01/2024 11:48

Why haven’t you watched it?! I hate reality TV shows but the Traitors is fantastic!

Dip a toe in Series One on iPlayer, go on …

NeverAloneNeverAgain · 26/01/2024 11:48

I've not seen it either. No idea what everyone's talking about. I never did love Island or I'm a celebrity either. I do very badly in the work pop quizzes!

wejammin · 26/01/2024 11:49

I hate I'm a Celeb and Love Island and all that stuff but I LOVE traitors. It's a fantastic insight into group think and behaviour.

hexsnidgett · 26/01/2024 11:50

Nah, you are not the only one. It looks crap.

JadeSeahorse · 26/01/2024 11:51

No, me neither!

I may be judging unfairly but from the excerpts I have seen I am struggling to understand the hype. However, I must be a bit of a weirdo as I’m exactly the same with Strictly Come Prancing.

NetballHoop · 26/01/2024 11:57

I tried an episode of the first series and really disliked it. There are far better things to watch.

MermaidProject · 26/01/2024 11:57

I only watched the first season last week with my 11 year old, after a friend said she'd found it workable as something for the whole family to watch, and that it was both thoroughly silly and also potentially useful as a way of talking about relationships, conflict, ostracism etc with tweens and teenagers. (Me and DS had a conversation about how irritating Meryl's swearing was, and how she didn't seem capable of codeswitching, even in situations where it wasn't appropriate...)

It is remarkably stupid, I admit. My chief joy is the landscape and Claudia Winkleman's knitwear -- the contestants seem like the usual run of the type of deeply silly, over-emotional types that always get cast on this kind of show.

Or maybe I'm being unfair, and it's just the situation of being stuck somewhere for weeks without any external input and no relationships other than the other contestants, and being constantly filmed, that turns everyone into the kind of shrieky Borg that screams in excitement when people walk in a door to the breakfast table, or acts as though the 'murdered' are actually quietly killed off with an axe rather than sent home to their normal lives.

What I would watch the hell out of is a documentary about the casting of 'reality' TV programmes like this one, or even gentler affairs like Bake Off -- how the producers choose a spread of ages/sexes/ethnicities and also need to balance charisma, physical fitness, different personality types etc with a need to cast people who aren't going to go over the edge in a pressure-cooker situation.

Bonjovispjs · 26/01/2024 12:05

I started watching the second series just to see what all the fuss was about. I think it's OK but nothing special 🤷🏻‍♀️

Overthebow · 26/01/2024 12:14

It’s great, but I love the game in real life as well so find it interesting being played like this

Overthebow · 26/01/2024 12:16

Not sure it’d be quite the same if you don’t play the game yourself though.

SnapdragonToadflax · 26/01/2024 12:17

Like all reality TV, I can't suspend disbelief and just assume it's all scripted. It makes it unwatchable, unfortunately. I would like to enjoy it!

ArcaneWireless · 26/01/2024 12:18

I already watch enough mince.

I’ve not seen any of it.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 26/01/2024 12:18

Given that the programme has about 6 million viewers and there are close to 60 million people living in the UK no you clearly aren't the only one

MerLOWnomore · 26/01/2024 12:42

I kind of get it as I feel that way about Love Island, and have never really given it a chance. Love Traitors however and will be glued come 9pm tonight.

My Dad said he didn't understand the hype and didn't watch S1, but he's watched the last few episodes and is now into it.

So I'd say give it a go before writing it off.

the80sweregreat · 26/01/2024 12:47

I have watched reality shows and I can see why people like this one, but I just can't get into it.
I feel for the presenters on bbc ( especially on the radio ) who have to plug it continuously and I'm not sure if they are faking the enthusiasm or not tbh. It feels like they want it to be hyped up into this massive thing. Same goes for other shows as well , it ends up turning people off

TheFairyCaravan · 26/01/2024 12:52

No, I haven’t watched it either. I shall be glad when everyone stops talking about it.

KitchenSinkLlama · 26/01/2024 12:54

I haven't ever watched it or strictly or any other reality/contest type show. I just don't get the hype.

If you like it, fine, but when it is on the news, my eyebrows arch more than Spock when listening to Kirk talking nonsense.

Farwell · 26/01/2024 13:03

I am not normally one for reality TV at all but have started series 1. I am finding it fascinating psychology. How thoroughly unpleasant and disingenuous so many of them are, completely self absorbed. It can be truly savage.

Hijinks75 · 26/01/2024 13:04

Glad it’s not just me, like other posters, i am not a fan of the endless reality
programs that seems to be the mainstay of much of todays tv.

OP posts:
Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 26/01/2024 13:05

I hadn't watched it but my daughters a level psychology teacher recommended that they watched it.

Took me a couple of episodes to get into it but now I'm hooked.

I had a favourite I thought would win after about episode 4 - I'm only up to episode 8 though so need to avoid any spoilers before I see the rest.

LunaNorth · 26/01/2024 13:06

I watched the first one of this series to see what all the fuss was about, but I found it too cringey to continue.

I like Claudia and her clothes, though.

Bankholidayhelp · 26/01/2024 13:08

It's worth watching for the scenery, the castle and Claudia's outfits. Just ig ire the game 😂
