Just wondered if I’m the only person who hasn’t watched and has no interest in watching traitors, it’s all I see on the main news, most daytime and early evening chat type shows, it’s like an obsession

OP posts:
Chocken · 26/01/2024 15:11

No. No interest, and little faith in viewing figures.

Gemzee · 26/01/2024 15:12

I just started series 1 today!

janeintheframe · 26/01/2024 15:12

I’m surprisingly addicted too, and I notoriously avoid all reality tv. This is very different as it’s not wannabes trying to be stars. And I’ve noticed my husband now surreptitiously watching too,

you watch about two them get hooked.

Not watched it but I get the impression from the trailers that the viewers know who the traitors are. What's the point of that? Same reason I don't watch Columbo.

It’s not a whodunnit 😂

thr group doesn’t know, and they need to find which amongst them is a traitor. By voting someone out each night, and if they get it wrong, they vote out a faithful , no one knows in the group who is a faithful or who is a traitor, they all pretend to be faithfuls so as not to get voted out. In addition the traitors “murder” someone each night, they eliminate a faithful

if there is a traitor left at rhe end, they win all the money, and the pot stands at 70 grand right now. So it’s a battle for the traitors to stay in and be perceived as faithfuls, and the real faithfuls to work out, who is actually a traitor.

it’s surprisingly addictive in how they behave.

toastofthetown · 26/01/2024 15:31

Yep just you. Not sure if you’ve noticed but when Traitors is on, all public services stop, bars and restaurants close, even babies stay still and focus for the whole hour.

Tinkerbyebye · 26/01/2024 15:49

Nope not watching, i hate that sort of stuff

But I want it to be a whodunnit! The trailer I remember seeing looked like it was a couple of traitors plotting together but I'd rather not know who the traitors are, I'd want to guess along with the faithfuls. Thanks for the explanation though. In fact I'm going to watch an episode, just for you.😁

crumblingschools · 26/01/2024 17:49

DS has suggested for a future series they shouldn't let the audience know who the traitors are

I know what you mean!

But part of what makes it interesting for me is the dynamic because we know who the traitors are and can see them slipping up at times, but the group can overlook that because they "like" them or are swayed by someone else's view instead of thinking strategically. I'm shouting at the screen saying 'how the fook did they miss that'

The group dynamic and how they sometimes pile on for little reason is fascinating, like reading Lord of the Flies.

Someone else mentioned orange tanned wannabees, its certainly not that, there's a range of ages and types

TheSnakeCharmer · 26/01/2024 18:06

I've started watching it with my 12 year old as it's hard to find suitable things that we can watch together and he's been off school this week. It's distinctly mediocre and pretty banal.

Excellent points. I'm quite looking forward to watching it now.

Nope. Hate reality stuff.

It's not your usual reality stuff. It's very different.

beeNqueen · 26/01/2024 18:48

Doesn't interest me in the slightest. Much of what's on tv is a bore these days.

BIossomtoes · 26/01/2024 19:04

We’re addicted in this house. The strategies and twists and turns are intriguing.

Elderflower14 · 26/01/2024 19:05

Never watched it. Not in the least interested!!!

we haven't watched it , I'm not really a CW fan and the whole fake drama thing would annoy me, I saw a bbc breakfast reference it to some government minister the other day, the guest eyes nearly rolled out of his head!

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 26/01/2024 19:26

I've never watched it and (I'm not saying this to be 'cool') I actually have no idea what it's about. I'm just not bothered about reality TV and can't stand CW so for that reason - I'm out!

However I get some people must like it as its being talked about on TV and the radio all the time 🤷‍♀️

WelshSmog · 26/01/2024 20:42

I've literally just started watching season 1 after this thread and I'm enjoying it! 😁

I couldn't stand CW until I started watching this. I like her now.

Ruminate2much · 29/01/2024 05:45

I've had a journey with The Traitors.
Like you OP, I had no interest in it at all for ages. I didn't tune into discussion about it, nothing. Totally off my radar. I saw a billboard advertising the first series, and had no idea what it was about. All over my head.
Theeen, my mum (whose viewing tastes I often share) mentioned she'd started watching it, and that it's addictive. So, on a freezing cold day just over a week ago, I started watching the first series - I was hooked in a few minutes, and binged it over 2 or 3 days. Loved it. Loved the final. Then I started watching series 2, and eventually caught up, in time to watch the last 3 episodes with the nation. That's when my love for it faded. I found that last week so disappointing. I felt they were playing with us with possible story arcs, and the actual finale was excruciating. So, I've gone off it now! I doubt I'll watch series 3, as it's so heavily weighted in favour of the traitors, as to make it frustrating. I don't want to see potentially vulnerable people exploited, and I don't want to get so invested and emotionally drained over a game on telly!
Series 1 is great viewing (I far preferred it, though many people prefer series 2) and worth watching, but, it should come with a warning - you will becomes addicted, and spend insane amounts of thinking time over it! Honestly, I've got better things to do with my time. But to each his/her own.
