Best supermarket doughnuts?

I like ring doughnuts and jammy ones too, but I really don't like the ones that use icing sugar on the outside. It has to be proper sugar with a little bit of a crunch that makes you like your lips.
I recently tried warming doughnuts in my air fryer and then adding a little cinnamon sugar, it's going to be my downfall Grin
Anyway... which supermarket makes the best doughnuts?

MFS for bog-standard jam ones.

Crazydogmumma · 08/01/2024 21:50

Sainsbury’s for proper sugar on the outside - yum!

Sainsburys are ok for sugar, I prefer powdered sugar though, Morrisons are powdered

Sainsbury's without a doubt. There is absolutely no comparison at all to any other supermarket doughnut.

SanFranBear · 08/01/2024 21:51

Asda Jam Doughnuts are fab - especially a day over when the crunchiness of the sugar goes perfectly with the slight chewiness of the doughnut itself! God, I could go a plate of them right now...

Mystro202 · 08/01/2024 21:51

I know you say you don't like the ones with icing and I normally don't either ..but Tesco white sprinkle donuts 🍩 yum 😋

Hermittrismegistus · 08/01/2024 21:52

Sainsburys.

ArchetypalBusyMum · 08/01/2024 21:53

Sainsbury's bakery ring sugar donuts are what you need.
I also dislike icing sugar or prefer sugar donuts.
At my Sainsbury's if you get there too late in the day they are sold out.

Littletinytarzanswingingfromanosehair · 08/01/2024 21:55

Aldi ring donuts are quite good.
M&S ring cronuts are good
Not supermarket but Greggs ring donuts are good too.

Morrisons custard filled. Absolute perfection. Sadly I can’t buy them often as I’m the only one that likes them and 5 is a few too many for just me.

Agree with this, every other doughnut is a let down in comparison, I like a doughnut on a Saturday I have to get there before lunch or they have sold out, clearly a lot of people think the same as me!

Yozzer87 · 08/01/2024 22:06

Morrisons raspberry jam. They are just so soft and overflowing with jam. Thankfully for me I don't live near a Morrisons.

CowboyJoanna · 08/01/2024 22:07

Morrison doughnuts are the best, my husband LOVES them

Fillyfrog · 08/01/2024 22:09

Even though you said no icing sugar Lidl jam donuts from the bakery are the best ever ever ever

Amberlady · 08/01/2024 22:10

Morrisons jam doughnuts, but they do have icing sugar.

CaptainHammer · 08/01/2024 22:13

M&S bag of 4 jam doughnuts 👌🏼
I used to love Sainsburys but they have a softer baked not fried type texture these days which isn’t as nice IMO

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 08/01/2024 22:13

Sainsburys jam every time

Bessica · 08/01/2024 22:14

Co-op donuts are lovely and vegan.

Mwnci123 · 08/01/2024 22:14

I don't live near a Sainsbury's so can't compare with those, but M&S far and away the best jam donuts near me. Granulated sugar, lovely jam, chewy dough. Gorgeous stuff.

amiold · 08/01/2024 22:16

Morrisons. No contest. Also vegan (not that I am - step son has allergies and they're always shared on a group I'm on - obv not the custard ones, which are the best imo)

drmansplainer · 08/01/2024 22:18

When did this abominable of icing sugar sneak in? It makes my lips feel cold. Is it a cost thing?

thinkfast · 08/01/2024 22:22

M and a jam donuts are delicious!

Kisskiss · 08/01/2024 22:27

another Sainsburys fan here! Probably my favourite thing that they sell

Passthecake30 · 08/01/2024 22:28

Another one for Sainsburys jam doughnuts, I’d make a separate trip to get some!

hexsnidgett · 08/01/2024 22:29

Asda are the best. I miss the blackcurrant ones too.
I am surprised to see morrisons recommended, maybe they have improved them? The last time I tried them they went in the bin, horribly lardy.
When I was growing up the local baker sold apple doughnuts, they were long like an éclair. They really were the best ( and 22p!)
