Was just looking at this thread of 2023 predictions https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/_chat/4708892-predictions-for-2023?

Does anyone want to make predictions for 2024?

I think...
A coalition government following a GE in the second half of the year
We'll have another mild wet summer
A Royal couple will split up
Taylor Swift will release a rock/indie or electronica album
The wars in Ukraine and Gaza will keep raging (sadly) though there may be some progress towards peace
House prices to drop a little more but stabilise in the second half of the year

Predictions for 2023 | Mumsnet

With the new year almost here I wondered what sorts of things people think might happen during it so, as pure speculation, what sort of happenings do...

Some of these predictions have been pretty darn good. Special mention for @MissBattleaxe

Although not for the royals.

Interesting that some predicted ill health for some of the royals.

Why, thank you.

2025 predictions:

  • King Charles will reluctantly take a step back from royal duties
  • The Labour in-fighting will start and Rachel Reeves will be replaced as Chancellor, following the backlash over the decisions she’s made
  • Stateside, Trump will reluctantly agree for JD Vance to replace him - with Elon Musk as his right hand man
  • Meghan Markle (and maybe Taylor Swift?) will attempt to go into US politics to save the Democrats
  • In France, Jordan Bardella will succeed Marine Le Pen as RN leader, and France’s government will continue being unstable and will continue losing no confidence votes, but Macron will stay on at least for next year
  • A Ukraine peace deal will be agreed
  • Israel will continue attacking Gaza, and will also attack Syria and potentially Iran and Lebanon again
  • China will invade Taiwan

  • 'Something else' will happen health wise with the Royals, could be Charles, could be Camilla
  • The P Diddy/Jay Z thing will turn into a massive scandal and involve loads of people we 'know'
  • Trump will actually be ok, he won't do anything too ridiculous
  • U turn on the farm inheritance
  • Rachel Reeves won't be Chancellor by summer
  • More snow this winter and summer will be better
  • Israel will continue until Gaza is absolutely destroyed, but will settle down a bit with the other countries
  • There will be some sort of fudged deal with Ukraine but the threat of Putin will remain
  • Manchester City will be found guilty of the 115 charges, but will appeal to the bitter end and nothing of substance will happen
  • Taylor Swift & Travis Kelce will break up
  • The Oasis tour won't go ahead/will be mired in controversy (I have tickets)

1 We will discover something truly amazing in our galaxy that will re-write the books. We will also look further than we ever have before
2 Taylor Swift will get engaged (might happen this year actually)
3 Someone senior in the royals will step away completely, and someone unexpected and distant will step in
4 A really strong bond will happen with Australia and another country, maybe NZ where they will become one country
5 for some reason, fish will be eaten more than red meat

Camilla out due to ill health, Harry back in?

Acapulco12 · 20/12/2024 00:01

Two more predictions from me:

  • the U.K. will go into recession in 2025
  • Liverpool will win the Premier League - with Chelsea and Arsenal and Man City in 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Liverpool will also win the Carabao Cup, Spurs will be in the FA Cup final (but not win 😭) and they’ll also do well - but also not win - in the Europa League
  • Gareth Southgate and Sadiq Khan will get knighthoods in the 2025 new year’s honours
TokyoSushi · 20/12/2024 09:43

Loving your Liverpool predictions @Acapulco12 Grin I also think we'll go a long way, but maybe not win, the Champions League.

May Election

Batshit Tory campaign focuses on the identity politics of the easily manipulated rather than the bread and butter issues such as the economy, the NHS, etc.

Labour win comfortably and Greens, Lib Dems make gains.

Tories down to 80 seats. Lots of big beasts in "safe" seats are out on their ears. Party becomes even more batshit in response.

Kemi Badenoch becomes the new leader and is even more shit at PMQs than Sunak because Starmer's answer to everything is "yeah. Your lot had 14 years to fix that and instead you left it to crumble so pipe down."

The long road to fixing the damage of the last 14 years begins.

I'm quite pleased with this one Grin

Death of a major royal
Kardashians will implode
Very hot and sunny summer for 3 weeks then back to rain

Just leaving this here for those who don't watch PMQs
