2024 Predictions

Was just looking at this thread of 2023 predictions https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/_chat/4708892-predictions-for-2023?

Does anyone want to make predictions for 2024?

I think...
A coalition government following a GE in the second half of the year
We'll have another mild wet summer
A Royal couple will split up
Taylor Swift will release a rock/indie or electronica album
The wars in Ukraine and Gaza will keep raging (sadly) though there may be some progress towards peace
House prices to drop a little more but stabilise in the second half of the year

Predictions for 2023 | Mumsnet

With the new year almost here I wondered what sorts of things people think might happen during it so, as pure speculation, what sort of happenings do...

Nightclub closures hit the headlines because young women don't buy drinks out any more due to spiking.

Pubs continue to close their doors too because nobody's got the money for that except alcoholics.

Repossession problems occur when thousands of people who live in flats with a high service charge are unable to find a lender prepared to let them remortgage when their fixed rate ends.

Animal charities offer a lifelong foster option where they continue to support the animal financially in order to rehome to people who can no longer afford pets and clear the backlogs in rescues.

The birthrate drops again.

Just looking back over this - interesting to see what these predictions were at the end of last year.

parkrun500club · 09/06/2024 17:57

The pp was right about the rain...

It is. I agree with a PP that a few people were right about the rain.

Noone saw a July election coming though one person mentioned June.

Sad to see that there is still no peace in Ukraine.

May Election

Batshit Tory campaign focuses on the identity politics of the easily manipulated rather than the bread and butter issues such as the economy, the NHS, etc.

Labour win comfortably and Greens, Lib Dems make gains.

Tories down to 80 seats. Lots of big beasts in "safe" seats are out on their ears. Party becomes even more batshit in response.

Kemi Badenoch becomes the new leader and is even more shit at PMQs than Sunak because Starmer's answer to everything is "yeah. Your lot had 14 years to fix that and instead you left it to crumble so pipe down."

The long road to fixing the damage of the last 14 years begins.

Just bumping this because I predicted the Tories would be down to 80 seats and some of the polls are in that territory.

I thought the election would be in May and the Tories would still have enough MPs to form the opposition though…BUT WILL THEY?!

Acapulco12 · 20/06/2024 19:10

I think Nigel Farage will finally get voted in as an MP this year 🤢🤢

I don’t know the demographics of Clacton.

Is it a very gullible part of the country?

Har har. Most of the polls are suggesting he’ll win. Although they’re never 100% accurate and a lot can still change between now and the election, I think they paint a clear picture of the support for him.

Acapulco12 · 25/06/2024 23:00

Euros prediction: I think Portugal or Austria will win.

The Conservatives have reached 80 seats.

Lots of Big Beasts out.

Labour seem to be winning comfortably.

Lib Dems and Greens have made gains.

Might do the lottery this week. Grin

General election will be in May, Labour will win, and Starmer will be PM, but not with the majority currently being suggested. Sunak will resign immediately and Badenoch will become leader of the opposition. Things will seem a little better, but not much.

Interest rates, house prices, energy costs etc will all settle a bit, but not very much.

Something will happen to Putin, could be illness/death or assassination.

Trump will not become US President, but it might not be Biden either.

The war in Gaza will eventually fizzle out with some sort of fudged deal leaving the door open for it all to kick off again at a later stage.

Liverpool will win the Premier League and Jurgen Klopp will extend his contract.

There will be more trouble with Iran.

Mollie King & Stuart Broad will have another baby.

Molly Mae & Tommy Fury will split up.

Just reviving this thread to see how we're getting on, not too bad for me so far, still think I might be right about the US Presidency!

Sad sad times around my Liverpool FC prediction 😭

verdantverdure · 15/07/2024 21:04

Monsoon summer. Just saying…! 😀

Yeah the Euros and Trump predictions didn't/haven't yet occurred

Acapulco12 · 15/07/2024 23:37

I never seriously thought that England would win the Euros, but I definitely kept some hope alive that they might.

I’m really gutted for them even though I was disappointed with how they played in some of their games and with some of the management decisions taken too.

They’re a really lovely team though and I hope they get to lift a major trophy in the next few years (hopefully before Harry Kane retires and before Gareth Southgate leaves as manager).

BrieHugger · 07/12/2024 21:22

Interesting looking back on this, some predictions are much more accurate than others!

Johndoeskellington · 07/12/2024 21:31

The US presidential election will not be between Biden & Trump, because at least one of them will suffer a serious health crisis which will end their candidacy. Either Trump will have a heart attack or (possibly more likely) Biden will have a public ‘senior moment’ so serious that support for his candidacy in the Democratic Party will collapse.

Well done to the poster who wrote this!

I don't think that I did too badly! 2025 feels a little more difficult to predict!

That was actually in the Times today though not because of spiking!

Iam4eels · 09/12/2024 21:06

2025 predictions

  • Taylor Swift marriage and baby now the Eras tour is over
  • Nigel Farage will defect to the Tories, taking his dickhead crew of MPs with him, in exchange for a major role such as Shadow Home Secretary. Knives will then be out for Badenoch as he eyes the top job (although I sincerely hope Reform implodes before this happens as the idea of NF anywhere near power is scary)
  • in the wake of the Diddy (and now Jay-Z) allegations, Liam Payne's death, Robbie Williams biopic, etc. the music industry will be the source of many big scandals particularly in the way it fails to protect young performers and the processes involved in manufactured acts
  • Trump will be replaced by JD Vance before the end of 2025
  • we'll move closer to the EU in terms of trade agreements and alliances in a bid to try stave off the shitty effects of Brexit
  • London theatre prices will become unsustainable and lots of shows will be faced with closure
  • there'll be a brief resurgence of the summer riots when the Southport killer is sentenced
  • Oasis tour will be cancelled before it begins when the Gallagher brothers fall out (again)
  • MCR will tour the UK
  • snowy January, very hot and dry summer, Autumn floods
BrieHugger · 09/12/2024 22:13

@Iam4eels you had me at “hot and dry summer”

Pleeeaasse let that one come true!
