With the new year almost here I wondered what sorts of things people think might happen during it so, as pure speculation, what sort of happenings do you think we might see in 2023?
My predictions are:
- gin will be out, rum will be in. That whole trend for flavoured gins, small batch gins, home made gin, gin bars, gin glasses, gin gift sets, gin everything seems to have been sneakily replaced by rum everything
- food trends will be the two extremes of decadence vs being super-frugal. There'll be a trend for luxury and eating something for the sake of it, because it makes you feel good and it's indulgent. The opposite end of the same trend will be using every last part of any given food, kind of like the fabled MN chicken, and using leftovers not just as leftovers but as ingredients themselves for entirely new meals
- I reckon Twitter will do a MySpace and cease to exist in its current format. Not sure what's there to replace it but Elon Musk is the type to hit the self-destruct button on his way out the door
- I think there'll be an increase in crimes committed by incels and MRAs
- there'll be more strikes, I think these will culminate in a general strike and that it'll lead to a General Election when it becomes clear the government have no sort of grip on anything
- musically I think Britpop will have a big revival
- Matilda has been a huge success so I think Netflix will look at adapting more musicals and that musicals in general will be big. I reckon Six will get a film adaptation, possibly a Cabaret remake too
- this predictions is a bit niche but musicals related. Beetleguise will finally come to the West End and Hamilton will go on a UK tour
