Miranda Hart?

I' m watching tv and been channel surfing. I came across some episodes of Miranda. I'd forgotten all about it.

What happened to her? She was everywhere at one point- on her own show, on game shows, current affairs things, comedy programmes, chat shows. I think she had national tours with a comedian type show and in a play she wrote. Then it's like she just vanished.
I asked DH if I have missed something but he says he has never heard of her- which isn't true but he's obviously forgotten who she is.

Did she just stop doing everything?

I agree @bombastix - the way she was put in a box by the people around her, who claimed to care but kept popping up to put her down again. And all the expectation around marriage and careers. Definitely a mirror to a certain world.

pickledandpuzzled · 27/11/2023 10:26

She conveys such warmth and humour through her voice. A gifted woman. I really hope her boarding school experience was happier.

Yes there were some nice touches, almost satire; Miranda works in a shop. Shock horror, how dreadful. And the overtly sexy mother father relationship which actually is all about her mother being inadequate. It's underrated.

@BetsyBobbins yes I saw it on a flight recently too.

I actually really like the lead lady so I had fondness from that. It's an acquired taste though (like Miranda the show too) and not everyone's cup of tea.

I like the leading lady too and I'm surprised to hear Miranda herself is a producer/writer on the show, but I'm not surprised the show is completely different, that always happens with adaptations of British sitcoms to American tv.

And I'm another one who says "Bear with" and "such fun!" 🤭

I loved her as 'Chummy' in CTM. I keep hoping she'll come back to it.

I found myself giggling at the episodes of Miranda I saw last night. It's very observant and gentle.

She’s one of those celebs I feel affection for even if I’m not a massive fan of their work. Her sitcom wasn’t my thing but it sends my mother into hysterics so it’s okay by me.

It sounds like she’s had some personal challenges so it’s great she has the financial resources to be able to just step back and live a quiet life.

Makemydaypunk · 27/11/2023 13:37

There was definitely a lot more to ‘Miranda’ than slapstick comedy as previous posters have stated, it really does highlight the challenges of women who don’t adhere to the norm of marriage and children and who don’t meet societal norms of womanly attractiveness. My favourite episode ever was when she went on holiday to her local hotel, brilliant!. I didn’t realise her dog had died, Peggy I think? I remember reading her book a few years back and she was devoted to her, I can relate to that very much, it’s devastating, I hope she is doing ok.

I listen to her audiobooks to cheer myself up at any low moments. Love her show even more than her acting as do most of the women and none of the men I know! I’d love to see/hear more of her but more than that I hope she’s happy and well whatever she’s doing.

Thank you for mentioning her audiobooks. I just downloaded one on Audible.

LoreleiG · 27/11/2023 17:36

I loved the holiday one @Makemydaypunk! I could really relate to finding the idea of travelling a bit too much like hard work 😄

BethDuttonsTwin · 27/11/2023 17:39

She lives round the corner from me so I still see quite a lot of her, well every couple of months anyway 😁

That's actually true btw.

Riverlee · 27/11/2023 19:51

@BethDuttonsTwin Next time you see her, send her our (ie collective spirit of mn) love and I hope she’s doing okay.

biter · 28/11/2023 08:04

She's currently on Insta selling stuff from her shop, including this rather fetching sweatshirt 😬

All those of generously proportioned norks please note

She looks very unwell on that last pic.

Teddleshon · 28/11/2023 08:08

My daughter saw her by chance in London 2 weeks ago, she was thrilled !

CoverMeInMarmalade · 08/10/2024 11:01

I know this is an old thread now, but thought it worth surfacing up again as she has a book out on Thursday called 'I Haven’t Been Entirely Honest with You' in which she says she will talk a bit about what's been going on for her these last few years.

I thought some of the folks on here may be interested?

SequinsandStiIettos · 26/11/2023 18:36

She had a decent role in Spy, took the money and run! Good on her.

I loved that film and Miranda in it. Jason Statham was also hilarious.

AllAboutNiamh · 08/10/2024 11:05

I have her book queued on Audible. I like her, so I’m interested to read it.

ObieJoyful · 08/10/2024 11:10

uhOhOP · 26/11/2023 18:58

Maybe somebody told her to knock it on the head because she's just not the slightest bit funny.

But some people think she is.

I loved watching her with my kids. Same with The Vicar of Dibley- just fun and slapstick.

Mollyplop999 · 08/10/2024 11:11

I follow her on Instagram. She's got a book being released soon. She does post stuff quite regularly on Instagram.

endofthelinefinally · 08/10/2024 11:13

She has chronic health conditions that are likely to get worse as she gets older. I don't blame her for taking the money and slowing down a bit.

Blankspace4 · 08/10/2024 12:11

I’ll be interested to read the book. I hope she’s ok.

swimsong · 08/10/2024 12:25

uhOhOP · 26/11/2023 19:34

Gosh, really? This is what you've derived from "she's not funny"? How did you manage that?

Probably because of the arrogance of someone claiming that their subjectivity is objective fact. There's a lot of other unpleasant character traits that usually go along with that crappy attitude.

EDIT: oops didn't look at the dates.

HÆLTHEPAIN · 08/10/2024 12:38

I LOVE Miranda. I regularly watch the Miranda show and laugh out loud. Humour is subjective and I too, find it comfort tv.

I follow her on Instagram and have bought a couple of things from her online shop as some of the funds go to charity. I have ME and Fibro too, so it’s nice to have someone with a presence to ‘advocate’ what it’s like for us. (Not that I’d expect it of anyone).

I’ve got her new book queued too!

Riverlee · 08/10/2024 12:43

I love Miranda, the tv show. It’s one of those shows I can watch time and time again.

Drivingoverlemons · 08/10/2024 12:56

I know this is an old thread but anyway… I love Miranda, and loved Chummy. Her silly humour just appeals to me. And some of her wider social observations in Miranda were spot on.
