Miranda Hart?

I' m watching tv and been channel surfing. I came across some episodes of Miranda. I'd forgotten all about it.

What happened to her? She was everywhere at one point- on her own show, on game shows, current affairs things, comedy programmes, chat shows. I think she had national tours with a comedian type show and in a play she wrote. Then it's like she just vanished.
I asked DH if I have missed something but he says he has never heard of her- which isn't true but he's obviously forgotten who she is.

Did she just stop doing everything?

Gosh a couple of needlessly spiteful posters here! Many of us enjoy her humour, as a PP says she never puts other people down.

Funnily enough I watched a rerun of Miranda yesterday and wondered the same - what’s happened to her?

I think I remember reading an interview with her and she came across as being very uncomfortable with the sudden huge fame, I think she’s quite private and shy and maybe it just got too much?

Miranda was awful tbh - just really terrible, unfunny jokes and slapstick humour - it was inoffensive viewing though if nothing else was on. It was quite clear in the last series or two that they’d completely run out of ideas! I think she seemed like a lovely person who is hopefully living her life peacefully out of the spotlight.

She was excellent in Spy with Melissa McCarthy. I would love to see more of her in comedy films.

There are always a few needlessly spiteful posters on MN. They seem to think they are superior to the rest of us. I suspect they have no real life friends and have to resort to spilling their venom on anonymous sites to make themselves feel good. Sad really.

Gosh, really? This is what you've derived from "she's not funny"? How did you manage that?

AllMyExesWearRolexes · 26/11/2023 19:37

Her father is Captain David Hart - Dyke RN, he was captain of HMS Coventry in the Falklands.

Atethehalloweenchocs · 26/11/2023 19:37

She was amazing in Emma, wouldn't be surprised if she was not concentrating on acting.

2jacqi · 26/11/2023 19:44

she was on tv today in a movie with melissa mccarthy!

Sadandhurt23 · 26/11/2023 20:05

She's still about, doing her own thing. She's current on Instagram.

Dubbledup · 26/11/2023 20:08

Does she do radio 4? A lot of people who you think disappear go off and make a very nice wage from radio panel shows.

BringMeTea · 26/11/2023 20:16

She seems a properly good egg.

Over40Overdating · 26/11/2023 20:19

She apparently has quite significant anxiety and depression issues and is very private about her personal life, and was very stressed by being in the spotlight and made her quite tricky to deal with on sets.

If she has made enough to retire and live quietly without worrying her private life will be splashed over the press, good for her.

burnoutbabe · 26/11/2023 20:43

She's exec producer of call me Kat, the us version of Miranda so i I guess that pays a nice amount (3 season, just ended, not on uk tv as far as I can tell)

That article is dated 2015.

I'd forgotten about Call the Midwife and Spy and the books. She was incredibly successful.

Torquay seems like an odd place to go off to live but, according to Wikipedia she was bitn there so may have family and friends there. She did a huge number of yhings I wasn't even aware of but seems to have really would down between 2015-17 and just does an occasional thing like a voice over now.

Pity because she was one of those talented people who wasn't unkind to other people in her comedy or writing.

Why do you think Torquay is an odd place to live? 😄

Some people think everyone famous in the media lives in London with a country home elsewhere.

Ignoring the fact that most of the population of the UK aren't born and bred in London.

Elzibells · 26/11/2023 20:56

I love her and had also just sort of forgotten about her!

She's writing a book according to this. ..

I follow her on insta and would tend to agree she’s suffered with depression and has been quite open about that. I believe she was in a long term relationship with a woman which may have ended and also her beloved dog died. She went quiet for ages and then posted quite openly. I think she comes across as a good egg, and hope she’s ok. I’d like to see her back on tv screens

I met him when I visited the ship with a university friend. And Miranda is a cousin of one of my oldest friends. I didn't know whose daughter she was!

SequinsandStiIettos · 26/11/2023 21:17

just really terrible, unfunny jokes and slapstick humour
I loved (and still love) the series Miranda.
It was silly humour. Slapstick/clowning/pratfalls is actually a lot harder than it looks and she did it well. It probably hasn't aged well but it was amusing at the time, breaking the third wall long before Fleabag. Patricia Hodge was great in it.
I thought about it twice this week. Once when my trousers started falling down under a dress (don't ask) and yesterday, when everyone was kicking off about Tardis pronouns and I found the part where she was called Sir. That episode where she gets told she "passes" then Stevie asks, "Miranda, why are you dressed like a transvestite?" would no doubt get her cancelled now, but it was self-deprecating humour (taking the piss out of her own height and frame) back then and while some jokes were lowest common denominator (cockolate for chocolate penises, "such fun" catchphrase and her fake kids being called Orlando and Bloom) there was a sweetness and innocence about it, which is/was rare for sitcom.
As to her private life, it's precisely her own business. Most know she's gay but that doesn't mean she has to be a a lesbian role model for others to fixate on. She went the Jodie Foster route. Up to her.

I don't because she was born there but if she hadn't any connection to it, I would think it was an unusual choice. She lived in London for years as a 'celeb' and Torquay seems like the kind of place you move to when you are older to retire or if you grew up there or move there for work - she was only about 40 at the time and single and wasn't moving for work. Turns out she grew up there.

Maybe somebody told her to knock it on the head because she's just not the slightest bit funny.

Same could be said for a lot of the alleged comedians these days

Riverlee · 26/11/2023 22:14

Loved Miranda and really enjoy watching the repeats.

A quick Google on IMBD shows she just done a voice in Canterville Ghosts.

EmmaEmerald · 26/11/2023 22:14

Love her, I follow her on Insta and she still works on the shop, maybe just for fun. She makes me feel so much better about needing a quiet life!

and she is still such fun!
