I haven't seen a thread on this yet, so here's a thread to share hints for the Hidden Books Game this year:

I’m still stuck on the kurara girl

It’s a Japanese English novelist and German word for the name, google it

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 17/11/2023 19:58

I didn’t know half of these or the ones I didn’t know didn’t fit with the original pictures, so kept googling and then doing different variations of the words, some were really annoying as you had to put eg “The” before the rest of the title.

I spent a short while googling bestseller lists and book awards too.

Apart from work it’s literally the only workout my brain seems to have got recently!

@TinyTear
Was it yourself that got my 13.30 post hidden?
If you read through the thread, I put up a number of clues without revealing the answers.
The answer was in a post at 13.07.
Answer confirmed, by another poster, at 13.20.

Sorry, I've been reporting any posts with the actual book titles in.

OP posts:
TinyTear · 17/11/2023 21:59

Only reported two that actually mentioned the title

StrugglingPuzzler · 18/11/2023 09:38

Thank you all so much. I finally finished thanks to your brilliant clues

ClaraSais · 18/11/2023 10:21

I’ve got 16/20 but the Belle lion I’m stuck on as well as the love colourful books, the bestsellers bobbies and skull book stack, and mythology. Any clues please? :)

Fantasy is in Black and white but romance (another word for..?) is…

The lion one is so utterly stupid it hurt my brain. I only got it because another poster gave a very good clue about using the Waterstones search.

Allthatwegotisthispalebluedot · 18/11/2023 11:03

I was also stuck on the bestsellers one for ages. I actually got all the words but the way I was saying them in my head didn’t flow in the same way as the book title does when you say it. It was stressing me out SO much as it was the last one and I was keen to finish. I groaned when I actually got it.

thetemptationofchocolate · 18/11/2023 11:08

If you google the names in the mythology titles you will find they all have two things in common - what they are and where they were. So 'Something' of 'Somewhere'.

The lion clue is awful, it's a real stretch to get the book from that. But it's almost a soundalike clue, if you say out loud the name of a very popular BBC police show it does sound a little like the book title.

The love clue has three bookshelves. Two topics are in monochrome, but the 'love' one is not.

Krampus/bobbies/skull was shortlisted for one of the book awards this year.

diddl · 18/11/2023 12:27

Quite a lot of them I haven't heard of-in particular the "bestsellers"!

Some of them are "say what you see" & that just about works for the Lion one I think.

lizbet78 · 18/11/2023 13:31

Thank you everyone for the hints. I got 4 almost straight away but for the remainder, I had to use the clues you very kindly gave. I found last year's one much easier - maybe I should keep up with the book scene more 😀

goingsoftinthead · 18/11/2023 13:45

Got all 20 in the end but not without the help from the clues on here. Thank you all! - still the door is a bit obscure though

ClaraSais · 18/11/2023 14:55

I’ve got them all! Thanks all :)
same time next year? ;)

pinkjude · 18/11/2023 15:27

Morris dancer-where do they originate and the name for someone being treated by a paramedic

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 18/11/2023 16:09

I thought the lion impossible well done to the first to figure that out

AnImaginaryCat · 18/11/2023 19:15

I'm totally stuck on the bin and the Romance bookshelf.

Not even with the clues so far.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 18/11/2023 19:19

The bin is a poem from 1922

Thanks.

Still had to Google it mind!

Zonder · 18/11/2023 19:27

InMySpareTime · 16/11/2023 16:06

@km21 it's a poem rather than a book per se.
Three word title.
1 filler word
2 What general thing goes in a bin?
3 what's green and pleasant?

I really can't get this one. I know what it's meant to be but I'm getting something wrong somewhere. It's the only one I haven't done.

Written by a poet who really thought very deeply about cats.

InMySpareTime · 18/11/2023 20:08

@Zonder for the second word, what goes in a " x paper basket" type of bin?

OP posts:
Zonder · 18/11/2023 20:29

@NoSquirrels and @InMySpareTime I've tried that several times but I'm not getting something right. I've tried with and without the at the beginning, and as one word and two. It just tells me that isn't it.

Zonder · 18/11/2023 20:29

Oh FFS! I just did exactly the same again and it worked!

InMySpareTime · 18/11/2023 20:41

Try saving progress and logging back in. Some others have found that "unsticks" the game somehow
