I haven't seen a thread on this yet, so here's a thread to share hints for the Hidden Books Game this year:

https://hiddenbooks.nationalbooktokens.com/

OP posts:

@Pushkinini
Natural history - what do you find in the natural history section? It's not full of domesticated animals in other words it's a place for untamed creatures.
Classic children picture book written in the 60's.
Bin - not rubbish or trash but another word for things you throw away. Followed by not air or sea but
This is a poem rather than a novel written in the 1920s by a man who may have had feline companions.

BestIsWest · 17/11/2023 10:15

I am still stuck on
Romance
Open sign.

Pushkinini · 17/11/2023 10:16

Just got the sign, just romance to go.

Otterseatpuffinsdontthey · 17/11/2023 10:17

@Pushkinini
What is a child's name for a rabbit?
In a boxing match, what goes between the opponents names?
Name of the other animal?

Look at the names on the book - gender?
Name of place they're from?

I'm stuck on:
Bin
Revision
Romance

Just got the sign, just romance to go.

Not hate in black and white but the opposite emotion in the other type of TV licence.

BestIsWest · 17/11/2023 10:34

@Girlontherailreplacementbusservice thsnks! Never heard of it!

@Girlontherailreplacementbusservice thsnks! Never heard of it!

Neither had I. There were about 5 I hadn't heard of so I needed clues to get me there and another couple I had heard of but couldn't get from the picture. In the highly unlikely event of me winning I will owe a few Mumsnetters a share of the prize.

Crayonmunch · 17/11/2023 10:53

Not Satan or the devil but something like them followed by a slang term for the police and the body part that contains the bone shown in the image which when combined are a type of snake.

gleegeek · 17/11/2023 11:09

I've got all of them apart from the Headless man one! Grrrrgrrr

Otterseatpuffinsdontthey · 17/11/2023 11:11

Managed to complete - very pleased!
Many Thanks to all the posters whose clues helped.
Biggest "groan" from me was the Bin. One clue was the anagram of "toilets" (right there in plain sight) + felines.

He’s not The Headless Man he’s
The [Can’t See Him At All] Man

Otterseatpuffinsdontthey · 17/11/2023 11:13

@gleegeek .
You can't see his head - so what is his head?

gleegeek · 17/11/2023 11:16

Oh god! So obvious! Thank you x

Crayonmunch · 17/11/2023 11:22

Yes I got 20/20 now you were my best help thanks

tattygrl · 17/11/2023 11:28

Completed! Thank you for the clues here everyone - it turned it into a fun game I could actually work out, rather than something I'd have been forever stuck on 😂I really appreciate that we all stick to clues here, rather than giving away any actual answers.

ClaraSais · 17/11/2023 12:00

Still no idea on the lion one lol

NoSquirrels · 17/11/2023 12:05

Still no idea on the lion one lol

You’ll groan when you get it.

Its a 4-word title.

Second word, it’s not a lion, it just sounds like lion if you say it quite fast. You might draw a straight one, or walk one if you’re Johnny Cash.

The last word is the English translation of ‘belle’.

The whole phrase is like a popular BBC cop drama, but the last word only sounds like…

Trains are run on what?
Kids are more formally called what?
This is a classic and we'll known as a film.

@Taylaur
Proper word for kids
What the trains run on.
Absolute classic.

Bookworm68 · 16/11/2023 13:50

Morris dancer - Where does Morris dancing originate + what do you call someone who it being treated by a medical person

Bestsellers : focus on the bobbies and skull books Another name for a policeman and another name for skull

Wow... that's a stretch! Some of these clues are definitely better than others...

Eggmaster. You are right in your thinking for the science one (revision guides), I don't know why it isn't accepting it.
