What do trick or treaters get at your house?

I’ve made up little bags each containing a fun size chocolate bar (from Lidl), a lollipop, mini bag of jellies, a small chewy bar (like a mini Wham or Refresher), and a sticker.

ma weans (now teens and young adults ) call it guising .

I'm dreading it. So stressful for the dog, hoards of kids on my estate, banging on the door until pretty late.
I wish they'd just pass by but not an iota of common sense when blinds closed, lights out even.

It's really horrible.

dicedicebaby · 31/10/2023 07:22

Nothing these days. Used to buy the bags of mini chocolate bars etc but our street just got ridiculous.

We'd sit down and five minutes later the door would go again, and this would happen from 5-9pm. I realised that since we didn't have kids at home anymore we didn't need to join in!

Nothing.

Catsmere · 31/10/2023 07:27

There had better not be any. I live in a retirement village.

LubaLuca · 31/10/2023 07:32

We have tiny bags of Haribo, lollipops and Cadbury treatsize things. We get loads of little kids coming, they move in packs. There's no way I would consider making special treat bags up, far too much effort and expense for kids who really aren't expecting anything more than small and cheap.

Nortam · 31/10/2023 07:35

The cheapest sweets I can find as we get so many kids knocking so I have to buy absolutely loads! For some reason a lot of kids come to our estate for trick or treating even if they don't live here so the stream of kids is constant every year.

bluesky45 · 31/10/2023 07:35

A mini bag of haribo. We buy these because we can get in bulk and I know ds will eat them if there are any left over plus they last ages so it doesn't matter how many are left over. After we've gone trick or treating, they also can pick something that we got that we don't want ds to have, which is why we go early!

NancyJoan · 31/10/2023 07:36

I do the same. A little bag with maybe 3 different treats, plus a plastic spider/bat etc. We usually have about 100 kids, I love it. Hated taking my kids when they were small, but love the teeny witches and ghosties that come knocking.

BirthdayFlower · 31/10/2023 07:39

We get literally hundreds so whatever is the cheapest individually wrapped, nut- and gelatine- free sweets, one each.

your packs sound lovely, OP.

Wow that's very generous (and sounds very expensive) Halloween Grin It's chocolate coins and spooky gummy sweets here. We have about 60 or so, but my sister lives on a estate that goes all out with the decorations and they get hundreds of children knocking. Last year they had over 300 sweets and still ran out.

Nonplusultra · 31/10/2023 07:55

a bag of haribo and a fun size bar.
we live on THE estate for trick or treating, close to the school, but with a younger profile than some of the nearby estates, so kids come here especially to join their friends. We get about 150 kids.

Some of the neighbours make up bags and I’ve no idea how they afford it. And some go to great lengths with their house decorations and costumes to open the door.

I love it. There’s always a few tiny ones doing it for the first time and a few teens who haven’t grown out of it yet. It’s good craic.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 31/10/2023 08:43

Not much choice left when I looked recently, so I’ve got mini packs of Cadbury’s small chocolate fingers and a bag of chocolate ‘eyeballs’ from M&S. They all go in a big bowl and kids are told they can take one thing.

mrsbyers · 31/10/2023 08:46

Nothing here , house not decorated so hope they don’t knock as I can’t handle the dog spending all night off his tits barking

BusySittingDown · 31/10/2023 08:54

We've bought a pack of the small bags of Haribo.

I doubt that we'll get any trick or treaters this year as we've moved to a tiny cul-de-sac of three houses that, in the dark, doesn't look like it is there. I CBA to decorate either, apart from two small pumpkins in the window it would probably look like they're not welcome.

Up until last year we were in a village that was absolutely rammed with trick or treaters. In our new place there doesn't seem to be as many houses decorated round here. My kids have only ever gone to houses with pumpkins or decorations.

AuntieMarys · 31/10/2023 08:56

I have splashed out on a tub of Heroes. We will probably get the 5 dcs in the cul-de-sac.....and will open the door between 5 and 6.30. Then I won't be getting up to answer the door again!

cindylouho1 · 31/10/2023 09:47

I fill a bowl with candy and take to the door for kids to help themselves

NoItsStillNighttimeDarling · 31/10/2023 09:53

Nothing this year. I've specifically not bought anything as we never get any and I always buy enough for 50 billion then eat them all myself

ALongHardWinter · 31/10/2023 10:13

Ignored.

CountryShepherd · 31/10/2023 10:19

Cup of tea and a lie down - we're miles from civilisation!

SquashPenguin · 31/10/2023 10:20

Told to fuck off 🤣

Are you my husband 😂
But yes..... We tend to get teenagers asking for money. Not dressed up or anything, just basically begging. Little shits.

Cowlover89 · 31/10/2023 10:38

Nout

DonnaGiovanna · 31/10/2023 10:41

It's all cute littlies round here, they get a haribo mini bag or fun size chocolate bar - or one of the toy spiders liberally mixed into the bowl 👻

Fourecks · 31/10/2023 10:47

It's big in my part. I bought Freddo Frogs, which was very silly because it was meant to get well above 30 where I live. Luckily it only got to 30 but still not ideal weather for chocolate left outside! One mum I spoke to said she had left hers outside with some ice underneath, which I thought was very smart.

You sound lovely and generous, OP. I am a bit astonished at how many people still get knocks even if they're not decorated though.
