If you listen to Uncanny...

Which episode did you find scariest?
Mine was Harry Called. I literally felt petrified driving to Tesco at 11am listening to it in beautiful sunshine.

Thanks!

The scariest one is the house in Rottingdean where the guy saw a burial in the churchyard nextdoor - Elizabeth Dacre

ButDaddyILoveHim · 11/10/2023 08:02

I love Uncanny and I'm definitely looking forward to Friday! I am absolutely Team Sceptic but at the same time just love a good ghost story, although got to be honest the only one I have found properly spooky was Bloody Hell Ken.

We saw 2:22 recently and there were a few jumpscares but overall it was a bit underwhelming (and shouty!). Good fun though - ds and dh both loved it which surprised me as dh usually rolls his eyes at my love of ghost stories.

Danny is great though; his enthusiasm and willingness to believe makes all the stories so engaging. Roll on Friday!

ThePoshUns · 11/10/2023 13:17

I really enjoyed 2.22, good story, I did jump a few times!

I have tickets for the current tour - looking forward to it!

I love it but can only listen in the middle of the day when it's very sunny so I don't get too scared.

Did anyone else get a bit annoyed with the skeptic expert who would always say that everything was a hypnogogic hallucination, even if the person was wide awake at the time?

I think Bloody Hell Ken is one of the scariest, but also the Canadian fishing village (I found the radio thing, and how it was historically an item where people would hear bad news of loved ones, very compelling) and the Guestbook stayed with me as well

ChienneDesFromages · 11/10/2023 15:39

Bloody hell Ken- the follow up when lots of other rational middle aged academics got in touch with similar stories.

And the one about the Bothy in the Highlands- jeepers!

I loved 2:22 and me and my teens won’t be leaving the sofa this Friday with a double bill of Ghosts and Uncanny!

Not an actual episode but I looked up the photos on Danny Robins website which a woman had come across on her phone. She and her husband kept seeing a mysterious little girl but these photos seemed unconnected. The photos had been taken whilst the woman and her husband were out doing the school run. DR had put the photos on his website so the you wouldn't accidentally come across them in your newsfeed or whatever. I was intrigued of course and looked up the photos. When I opened them I physically jumped! Creepiest thing I have ever seen! Shock

Is that on the Uncanny section of his website? I just had a look and there is a series of photos with something black in the left hand side. I opened one and then thought I don't really want to look at that!

That's the one! To be fair I had just listened to the podcast, it was dark and I was on my own when I looked - I don't recommend that!

BarborousBarbra · 11/10/2023 16:25

I love the stories but Danny gets on my nerves, I must admit! I liked the story where the guy kept calling asking for someone ( I forget who) best.

Edwardandtubbs · 11/10/2023 16:38

I found the Canadian fishing village one the creepiest, but was also creeped out by Luibelt and of course Bloody Hell Ken.

I was so disappointed by the Beast of Whereveritwas - I summarised the story to DH and realised they had essentially made a 30 minute podcast about a goat farting on a bridge 😂

It's upthread here. I agree it's a creepy image but when you look upthread someone else has posted the played round image where you can clearly see it's a child messing around with the phone.

Picklewicklepickle · 11/10/2023 16:45

I love it, it’s such nonsense but done in an entertaining way and very bingeable!

Bloody Hell Ken is my favourite.

1000umbrellas · 11/10/2023 16:49

😁😆😂

1000umbrellas · 11/10/2023 16:50

That was to @Edwardandtubbs

1000umbrellas · 11/10/2023 16:58

I liked the one with the young woman who got a job at a boarding school--even before she saw anything I found the idea of her staying in a big dorm building on her own terrifying! I'm a total skeptic but still get the shivers... and I love hearing all the listeners' theories, believers and non-believers alike.

longtompot · 11/10/2023 17:21

Haha just found it @ThreeRingCircus It's funny how your brain and eyes can play tricks on you.

This was 'Harry called' and I listened to it driving to work in the rain this morning.
Am looking forward to 'Bloody Hell ken' when i can find it.
I can't stand the song they play throughout with the ghostly voice 'I know what I saw🎶' and have to mute it.
Too much padding out to make a 30 minute show, but it'll do 😂
Still looking forward to the BBC2 hour show though.

Edwardandtubbs · 11/10/2023 20:16

@1000umbrellas oooh yes the monks, that one was actually really creepy. Plus imagine seeing a ghost and everyone around you is totally chill about it cos it happens all the time!

Yes that was a real spine tingler

I can't remember which episode it was but the one with the young boy in the flat who saw the woman in the bed holding out her hand as if to invite him to get in.

I'm firmly team sceptic but I do enjoy them just as stories.

This post made me realise I’d missed an episode as I didn’t remember this one. I’ve just listened and bloody hell! I thought when it started out with the rustling plastic bags and moving ornament it was going to be one of the not very scary ones, but the image of burned woman in his mum’s bed was horrifying. The analysis was really interesting too, with the sceptic psychologist who was determined that the guy had issues with his mum and the phenomena were a projection of this, and the believer with her information about Scottish paganism and the burning of Yule logs.

piscofrisco · 12/10/2023 13:05

Bloody hell Ken was an early one, in season 1 I think ...

AndIKnewYouMeantIt · 12/10/2023 13:17

The burned lady one is a Christmas Special in case anyone else missed it.

CosyCoffee · 14/10/2023 09:31

I've recently started listening from the start and I'm not sure about it yet. The 'I know what I saaaaw' is immensely annoying though, is it used in every episode or (crosses fingers) is it eventually dropped? Angry
