Do you peel the eggs for the whole family

Hello!
Just that really! If you're making eggs for your whole family. Do you peel everyone's eggs (non counting young children) or do you put them on a plate and expect everyone to peel their own?

Thank you

I peel them. Quicker and less messy than finding annoying bits of shell everywhere, or 'welded' to plates.

If I'm making eggs to go in ramen then yes, otherwise no, part of the joy of a hard boiled is opening it.

CanOfGerms · 03/10/2023 14:36

This has literally never come up. Do you communally eat boiled eggs?

EfficientlyDecluttering · 03/10/2023 14:36

Put them in the fridge and people peel them as they want to eat them.

CaptainMyCaptain · 03/10/2023 14:36

I would peel hard boiled eggs before serving them.

EfficientlyDecluttering · 03/10/2023 14:37

I've never served them to people. They are a snack or sandwich filling.

DeathRattleDazzle · 03/10/2023 14:37

Yes I'd peel for everyone.

Cheeesus · 03/10/2023 14:38

I’m also nosey about what sort of a meal they are part of. It would affect my response too, I think as I can’t imagine it at all.

cushioncovers · 03/10/2023 14:39

Peel them all.

Cheese and boiled egg salad.

RedToothBrush · 03/10/2023 14:41

Why would I?

Boiled eggs are vile.

Cheese and boiled egg salad.

Then the eggs would be sliced, in the salad?

cocksstrideintheevening · 03/10/2023 14:41

THis has never been something I have had to think about. How often are you eating eggs as a group?!

Jk987 · 03/10/2023 14:41

I put an unpeeled one in my daughters nursery lunchbox. Feel like it stays fresher that way.

Basically king of like a breakfast with baguette/pitta bread and you have cheese/eggs/butter/jam to make your own sandwiches

My In-laws also like to have boiled eggs and toast. either boiled eggs on the side or crushed on the toast

If I’m feeling kind I’ll peel everyone’s because I am a master egg peeler if I can’t be bothered I don’t and I let them enjoy their yolks 😂

I’m surprised nursery staff have time to peel them.

Soft boiled eggs - not peeled, so N/A.
Hard-boiled eggs - I can't think of any circumstances where I would be preparing a meal involving these and not peel them. Sandwiches, kedgeree, added to a salad - they'd all need peeling.

This! Grin

I don't know why but I found this so funny.

I've never heard of peeling an egg though?!

I realise that doesn't answer your question. But thanks for making me smile!

Ok, thanks. In that case I would peel some. I would try and predict how many we’d go through. I’d rather not be left with peeled ones not eaten but that might not be logical.

sipsqueak · 03/10/2023 14:48

@CanOfGerms I was thinking the same. The mental image of a family sitting around peeling and eating boiled eggs is kinda funny to me...

If I'm making a big salad for the whole family that includes boiled eggs (eg nicoise, cobb) I will obviously peel and chop them as needed. But that's really the only time hard-boiled eggs make an appearance on our table.

Hard boiled eggs need peeling. 😀

Talipesmum · 03/10/2023 14:50

If we are having boiled eggs we have them soft boiled and if they’re on toast we have them scrambled. Only do hard boiled if they’re going in kedgeree or in a salad already prepared and mixed in. I guess if we were having hard boiled on masse, we would peel our own, depending on if everyone could do it without a big faff. I quite like peeling them though.
