Do you peel the eggs for the whole family

Hello!
Just that really! If you're making eggs for your whole family. Do you peel everyone's eggs (non counting young children) or do you put them on a plate and expect everyone to peel their own?

Thank you

@CanOfGerms

I know found it odd myself too, I don't know anyone over 3 that eats boiled eggs, I think of them as weaning foods. Oh well you learn a new thing everyday.

Talipesmum · 03/10/2023 14:52

I was on a university field trip to Greece once thought where breakfast for all was just a massive basket of unpeeled hard boiled eggs and some strong coffee. It wasn’t ideal when we were all badly hungover.

Are you serious?

Everyone I know eats hard boiled eggs!

And yes, OP, I peel them all.

gotomomo · 03/10/2023 14:53

Omelette is the correct way to serve eggs anyway Grin

Basically king of like a breakfast with baguette/pitta bread and you have cheese/eggs/butter/jam to make your own sandwiches

In that case definitely wouldn't peel them as any that weren't used would keep longer in the fridge afterwards.

Thebigblueballoon · 03/10/2023 14:53

Literally never thought about this, but if I was in a scenario where we were having communal boiled eggs I’d… not peel them if they were hot, but I would if we were eating them cold. Why? Because it’s harder to peel warm ones and really easy to peel cold ones. I am egg lazy.

I don't know why but I found this so funny.

I've never heard of peeling an egg though?!

I realise that doesn't answer your question. But thanks for making me smile!

Unwrapping?
Deshelling?

BillStickersWillBeProsocuted · 03/10/2023 14:55

Put them all in a tupperware with about an inch of water, close it and shake like mad - open it up and voila! Just need to pick the peeled eggs out and chuck the shells

CanOfGerms · 03/10/2023 14:36

This has literally never come up. Do you communally eat boiled eggs?

This! I've only boiled eggs about five times in my life never for more than one person.
I've never peeled an egg unless we're counting Easter eggs!

My kids are crap at getting the shell off.

So if I do boil eggs for them I will take the shell off.

But if boiling eggs for a dish. Then will shell all of them.

Today I learned some people think boiled eggs are only weaning foods 😂

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 03/10/2023 15:00

I love boiled eggs, both hard and soft boiled. I was brought up to slice off the top of the soft boiled egg so then I can scoop out the egg with my spoon. Soft boiled eggs make a lovely simple meal, with hot buttered toast or other nice bread.

I suppose the people saying they never boil eggs never make egg sandwiches. You're missing out!

FrenchandSaunders · 03/10/2023 15:03

I'm just imagining and a cheese and egg salad with the egg still in it's shell 😂

Tanyaaah · 03/10/2023 15:06

I have never peeled an 🥚.

Does this actually work?!?!

If it does, it could change my life....

This just makes it weirder to me, because of my fifty nearest and dearest off the top of my head, I have literally no idea whether most of them eat eggs or not, let alone whether they peel them.

I’m also nosey about what sort of a meal they are part of. It would affect my response too, I think as I can’t imagine it at all.

Where Im from, they are very common with cod.
Boiled cod, eggs, potatoes, and veg (usually cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and chickpeas).
The eggs are ALL peeled before being served, as everything goes to the table in platters.

For me, they get added to a salad in summer.(like a one dish/salad meal iyswim)
And yes I peel them for everyone.

BrandNewTitsAndHusband · 03/10/2023 15:18

I don't peel them for able bodied adults if they are going to be served as part of a pick your own breakfast buffet style because they last longer in the fridge if there are leftovers and with tapas style breakfast its hard to judge appetite and what will be left or popular.
I don't like my food manhandled unnecessarilyair prepared for me like an invalid or baby.
My nightmare is those icky social media reels of a waiter messing and fussing with your food as part of the service.

Yalz · 03/10/2023 15:18

I make lunch for about 25 people once a week. There’s a variety of food to choose from, including hard boiled peeled eggs, and people serve themselves at the table.

Whether the eggs peel cleanly, without taking bits of egg white with them, is a bit variable.

When the eggs have cooled down I roll them on a hard surface to break the shells all over, then put them back in cold water for a while. This has been the most successful method so far, but I’ll definitely try @BillStickersWillBeProsocuted ‘s method next time.

I can’t imagine serving hard boiled eggs still in their shells. Does that mean people need a separate plate to put the bits of shell on?

petermaddog · 03/10/2023 15:21

buy them cooked
sandwiches,deviled eggs
if making a salad with pasta put fresh on in water with pasta to cook

BrandNewTitsAndHusband · 03/10/2023 15:22

In hotels and b&bs, Turkish and Lebanese restaurants boiled eggs are served with shell on. If they are in a ramen or salad of course you peel them.

coxesorangepippin · 03/10/2023 15:24

Brilliant question and an ongoing discussion in our house

I'm a whole-family peeler, personally
