How different are your / your partners jobs?

Having recently spent a few days on tour with my music industry partner, I find it really entertaining how different our work lives are (me - finance related).

How similar are your jobs? Do you ever see them at work? Do you understand each others jobs?

OP posts:

Totally different, I am a manager of a cannabis retail outlet, DH is a naval officer.

Honeychickpea · 30/09/2023 03:00

Both software engineers. Works for us.

Vanessashanessajenkins2 · 30/09/2023 03:15

We are both lawyers, I work in banking and he works in debt. It helps because I suppose we get eachother and can talk about the stresses of work, our caseloads, court hearings and any other things relevant to our industry. Works for us.

Whiskeyinthejaroh · 30/09/2023 03:21

Very different. He is head of finance for a large tech company and I am a secondary art and design teacher.

Oatsamazing · 30/09/2023 03:32

The same, we're both gardeners at historic properties.

LadyB49 · 30/09/2023 03:53

One is a senior registrar psychiatrist the other is a traffic warden.

reallyunderstandsometimes · 30/09/2023 03:59

Engineer and creative director, very different but weirdly there is crossover as we both just solve problems all day.

GCSister · 30/09/2023 04:01

We actually met at work. We no longer work together but we're still in the same sector and work with lots of the same people.
We have to work together occasionally too.
We love it

Accountant and Nurse. One mention of month end reports or raising invoices my brain turns to mush. He'd probably feels the same if I started talking about an aortic dissection

Bubbleblues6 · 30/09/2023 07:20

Private cleaner and 360 operator

MinnieMountain · 30/09/2023 07:30

I’m a conveyancing solicitor, he’s an actuarial contractor specialising in financial modelling.
He understands my job, all I see of his is massive spreadsheets.

CrazyHamsterLady · 30/09/2023 07:34

We work in the same place and share a home office. Pretty similar 😆

Dogon · 30/09/2023 07:37

We have the same job. See each other everyday. Been this way for several years now, no it doesn't bother us (we always get asked this!)

ShadowPuppets · 30/09/2023 07:37

Very similar, we’re both in marketing/comms in the City. Slightly different focus so not the same job but if we were in the same organisation we’d be in the same department. It’s nice, we often trade work issues and bring a different perspective.

OneCup · 30/09/2023 07:41

Very different - different fields, different work patterns, different responsibilities. One is more creative, the other one more technical and aims for accuracy.
Interestingly, we have very similar personalities and dare I say interests.

Uglyducklingswan · 30/09/2023 07:42

One of us is a teacher at a vocational college and the other is CEO of a charity.

SockQueen · 30/09/2023 08:03

Pretty different - I'm an anaesthetist and he's a university lecturer in a social sciences subject. He's extremely squeamish so I can't talk about my work with him. I vaguely know what he does, but not details. It seems to involve a lot of sitting in his pants reading academic papers. He WFH nearly all the time so I guess I see him "at work" most days, but he would never come to my work place.

CountessKathleen · 30/09/2023 08:10

One of us runs a major sports organisation, the other is a novelist.

mummy21blueeyed · 30/09/2023 08:11

I work In a school he works in groundwork’s/garden renovations

Earhell · 30/09/2023 08:14

Similar but very different. One in health care, one in education. We both work on helping people

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 30/09/2023 08:14

For the first 20+ years we were together, our jobs were pretty similar, as we were both teachers, originally for a few years in the same school, though different subjects. I'm still a teacher, but dh now works in university admin, so it's different but not exactly worlds apart!

Iwasjustasking · 30/09/2023 08:15

So different! My oh works in a factory, I am head of hr for a large multi National firm!

Byeckythump · 30/09/2023 08:16

Both scientists. He earns 10x what I earn. Be careful which science you pick!!

Sagittarius25 · 30/09/2023 08:17

Similar in that we are both in a professional industry, he's an accountant and I'm a HR advisor. But different in the fact neither of us could do each others jobs, numbers are not my thing at all and people aren't his.

PinkyDinkyDoodle · 30/09/2023 08:19

Both engineers in related fields. We have some areas of work that we could both do, and have worked together previously in the past, but we are experts in different areas.
