Am I too old for a full sleeve tattoo?

I follow an amazing tattoo studio online , and have several tattoos already.

I've seen the MOST beautiful full sleeve design , very feminine, tasteful in black

I'd love to get it , though it is £400 a day and will take 4 days , but you definitely get what you pay for with tattoos

Thing is , I'm 51. My arms are toned and I have confidence that now it would look good , but I'm not sure how it would look in 20 years.

That said , I'm all for living for the day . Would you just say sod it and get it ?

Please, that said it's not a tattoo haters thread and I really don't need people saying they're hideous or a waste of money , this design is very artistic , feminine and beautiful and I love it. If I was 30 I wouldn't hesitate .

I mean at 50 you know your own mind!

And do you actually care what it looks like in 20 years? Better than it would if you had it done at 20.

bemorebernard · 20/09/2023 01:55

True ! And it is insanely beautiful.

I’m not a tattoo person at all but it’s clear you’re very keen on it and assuming the cost is fine/manageable I would press ahead if I were you! Who cares about 20 years time.

Thank you. It's so beautiful and I hate my skin so the more covered in art the better! I'm terribly pale ,

I’m a tattoo hater and I say do it!

Theduchy · 20/09/2023 02:09

My mum got her first tattoos in her 50s but they've bled terribly and lost some definition. Apparently it's common on "older" skin. Just something to bear in mind.

Kerantli · 20/09/2023 02:09

Do it!
and post a (similar) picture of your plans 😁

JadeandGreen · 20/09/2023 02:10

You're never too old. For anything. Do it.

bemorebernard · 20/09/2023 02:11

It's this

I just love it .

I've wanted a full feminine sleeve for ever just never seen anything I like so much

My others just aren't as artsy but my others are places I can hide if I want to , this would be pretty much in show
All the time , that said id wear it with pride , I think its tasteful.

Oh that is absolutely stunning!
(and I'm not even a flower person)

HirplesWithHaggis · 20/09/2023 02:23

I'm not wild about tattoos, but I say go for it if that's what you want and can afford it. Meh about your age, I'm a decade older and not that saggy. Wink

bemorebernard · 20/09/2023 02:24

I've dm'd them .....

I'm an unashamed tattoo hater. Terrible, awful, trashy, blah, blah, blah.

If you want to do it, do it! Tomorrow isn't promised to us and life is too short and at times painful to not squeeze every bit of joy out of it that you can.

If it speaks to you, listen.

bemorebernard · 20/09/2023 02:48

Thanks I really appreciate the replies . I think I'm just gonna go for it . I'll,post pics ! (When I'm out of the clingfilm and scabby stage obviously 🤢)

Gonna ring the studio tomorrow. They said I can either block book or get it done a day at a time over time so while I'm usually an all,or nothing type it would be more economical to get it done over time .

I'm glad you're going ahead with it!

PurBal · 20/09/2023 02:57

Not a tattoo person but you are never too old! you love it, go for it!

Madwife123 · 20/09/2023 03:02

You are less likely to regret a tattoo you love now than one you got in your 20s.

Go for it!

11GrumpsaGrumping · 20/09/2023 03:05

I love feminine tattoos and think that is stunning. Go for it! The shading will be painful though so I'd definitely spread rather than block book.. am jealous, I love it!

ClaraBourne · 20/09/2023 03:22

I don't like tattoos but that looks like a beautiful piece of artistic jewellery.

If you will see it every day and it will give you pleasure then do it.

mjf981 · 20/09/2023 04:04

Would they tattoo your arm totally white first and then add on the art after? I've never seen that before. Very interesting! (Oh and i say do it if you want)

whilingawaytime · 20/09/2023 05:41

I don't know much about tattoos but I've seen tattoos age and it seems they tend to go blurry and "soft focus"... The original design here is already pretty blurry and soft focus, and details are added with shading/shaded blocks (rather than inner drawn lines), so I think it's a good design for older skin? I'd hazard a guess future blurriness might add to the "floaty" dreamy effect, compared to for example a drawing or text where everything just goes smudgy.

Plus maybe if you're not too attached to the original design you can go for an adapted design too - larger pics, more shading and less inner lines, etc?

It's
Booked !!!!!
