Am I too old for a full sleeve tattoo?

I follow an amazing tattoo studio online , and have several tattoos already.

I've seen the MOST beautiful full sleeve design , very feminine, tasteful in black

I'd love to get it , though it is £400 a day and will take 4 days , but you definitely get what you pay for with tattoos

Thing is , I'm 51. My arms are toned and I have confidence that now it would look good , but I'm not sure how it would look in 20 years.

That said , I'm all for living for the day . Would you just say sod it and get it ?

Please, that said it's not a tattoo haters thread and I really don't need people saying they're hideous or a waste of money , this design is very artistic , feminine and beautiful and I love it. If I was 30 I wouldn't hesitate .

Oh hell yes, glad you’re doing it.
enjoy your body and your life as you see fit.
and who cares what it looks like at age 80? It will be a good memory… and we all are going to look old , so what’s a bit of ink?

AutumnOcean · 21/09/2023 05:45

Life is short. Do it!

ShadyPaws · 21/09/2023 05:50

I love the design but I went and looked at the FB page and honestly I wouldn't go there because I don't think the execution will represent the design

I hate tattoos but can see why you love that one , the flowers are beautiful and the butterflies but I'm not sure how the bats fit in .
You love it and it's your body .

Purplecatshopaholic · 21/09/2023 06:15

Love that op. Glad you are going for it. I would also extend it down part of my back I think. Not sure I could sit through 4 days though #youwarrior

I agree, I'm also not impressed with the work I saw there (had to look out of curiosity's sake)

OP you want to find someone who has already done a similar kind of project and has photos of the actual results.

I have quite a few bright coloured tattoos on my arm.. not sure I'd call it a sleeve but I like them and am planning more.

I'm 50.

I may have to revise my response of 'don't do it at 50+.' That looks gorgeous. 😍

Those are gorgeous, I love the little bumble bee!

I wanted a particular tattoo for over 20 years. Finally took the plunge a couple of months ago (I’m in my 40s) and I love it. It’s very meaningful to me and the whole experience was great. Go for it!

sunshineplayroom · 21/09/2023 18:14

Thanks!

I do love the bee!

Also agree with this, I don’t think their execution is particularly strong.

Go for it OP but look for a better artist.

Some of my favourite artists/studios are

https://instagram.com/jennakerrtattoo?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

https://instagram.com/velvetundergroundtattoo?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

https://instagram.com/ben_klishevskiy?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

Im not saying the designs are the same (they mostly aren’t!) but the quality is excellent!

DameEtna · 21/09/2023 18:53

Also agree that whilst the designs on the FB page look great, the pictures of actual tattoos done at the studio aren't great.

I'd look for someone with a better standard of work to do a similar tattoo tbh.

Age doesn't matter but I have 2 concerns OP

Top artists are booked weeks and months in advance, if they can start a multi session next week that's a bit hmmm

You haven't even researched the artists portfolio yet??? Are you crazy? Those photos are illustrations, not real tattoos. You need to look through his entire portfolio and see how quality it is

Please please don't rush into this, it's a lovely idea but it's forever. Never rush or scimp on tattoos

I agree with this. I assumed you knew the artist when you first posted.

All of this. And I have to say, I have just looked at all of the OP's posts now, and I really don't like the tattoo/sleeve design. I think it looks a bit naff tbh.

Each to their own, but it wouldn't be for me. The 'sleeve' that the pp put with the bumble bee on is much nicer.

Also, someone advertising their tattooing on social media like that, saying 'contact me if you want it done!' Shock Ooooh, no, that wouldn't appeal to me at all. As has been said, a real professional 'good' tattoo artist will not be touting for business, they will have waiting lists/queues of weeks on end. Sometimes months.

Bit worried the OP is going to end up with something like this......... 😬

bemorebernard · 21/09/2023 20:02

I've asked who is doing it and for their portfolio. I followed this place because of polish Dan , who was the most amazing award winning artist but he left some time ago

If the execution isn't up,to the graphic I'll go elsewhere

I thought his designs were just okay nothing like the guy called Rado he is amazing.

throughgrittedteeth · 21/09/2023 20:35

Do it!

ShadyPaws · 21/09/2023 21:22

@AlexaCanYouHearMe mine sometimes draws stuff and puts it up but he's clear if you want it, there's a wait
I asked for a thigh design which he did and a year later he drew another design and put it on FB. I went to message him and it had vanished and I was Confused
He actually messaged me saying he took it down because he was giving me first refusal as it tied in with the thigh he had already done Grin

bottleofbeer · 21/09/2023 21:32

If the artist is good they'll have a waiting list.

But yeah, a full sleeve can easily take four full day sittings.

£400 a day is worryingly cheap and you haven't even asked for a specific artist? Wouldn't be surprised if the apprentice is tattooing you.

What studio are you going to?

pinkyredrose · 27/09/2023 18:41

Oh i just saw the studio on your pic. Your tattoo design is still on their Fb page!

flexigirl · 21/09/2023 01:14

I'm proudly old and covered in ink. I have both sleeves done amongst lots of others! I love the tattoo but think the price seems an awful lot for what you are getting? My left sleeve ( done at the grand old age of 48 two years ago 😉) cost £620 over three sittings. So I say go for it if you can afford it ! Come back and show us OP my next one is booked for December 🥳🥳 good luck !

Sorry but i think your sleeve was way too cheap. Did you get mates rates or the apprentice?
