This is 9 months after the accident that he had while filming Top Gear - and which has stopped all production on the series.

I'm assuming a lot of reconstructive surgeries?

I was shocked this morning seeing those photos too. I hope he is doing okay 💐

PTSDBarbiegirl · 09/09/2023 12:08

Stop sensationalising someone's trauma. That's really fucking shallow. As a pp suggests start a thread about your own face, post a photo too.

RudsyFarmer · 09/09/2023 12:09

Person in public eye has photos taken of him by paparazzi. Unfortunately this goes with the job.

He was clearly ready to be photographed. I imagine he thought 'right get it over with media wise and just do what you love.'

It's incredibly difficult to come to terms with facial injuries and I think he's just lovely. Also the way he's spoken up about MH especially body image is ace. Glad to him see back.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 09/09/2023 12:14

There was no air bag apparently.I hope he sues whoever is to blame

It feels like there has been a massive cover up around this. The BBC clearly messed up with their health and safety.

I agree. The horrible toxic masculinity undertones of Top Gear seems to encourage more and more risky stunts. These people are not trained stunt drivers or even experienced, advanced drivers. Since Clarkson and his band of tossers fecked off the BBC have been clutching at straws with presenters. FF is the only saving grace on the show. Hope he recovers well and looks after himself.

They're not paparazzi photos. Flintoff was with the England cricket team at the ODI against New Zealand yesterday at Cardiff. Andrew was helping with fielding practice before the match and sat on the England balcony watching the match. He clearly chose this day to be public. Just probably didn't expect the overreaction to his appearance. He will be with the England team during all 4 of the ODIs, mentoring & getting used to being in public again.

I’m surprised there hasn’t been money paid out

Maybe a waiver

Avatartar · 09/09/2023 12:29

I feel so sorry for him, from what I read he’s lucky to be alive, in an open top car without a helmet and I think it flipped. It’s a crazy programme but he should have been safe. He deserves love and support

Thanks to all who reported the title, which we've now edited. Discussing a current news story or images doesn't break our Talk guidelines in itself. Please report any posts you feel cross a line and we'll take a look.

I'm looking at the edited version and I think it crosses a line and should be deleted. Really, a whole thread about the facial injuries of an individual, not started in care, but in gossip.

all good wishes to Freddie.

HRTQueen · 09/09/2023 12:33

Totally unnecessary for the media to be printing carefully chosen photos

he should be left alone if he wants to make a public statement he or his family can

Celebrity chooses to go out publicly and has photo taken my member of the public.

I mean come on you can’t be that shocked and amazed that this is a good story for the press and that it’s also a point of discussion. He has had a terrible accident whilst filming for a show that was always in the press for its former presenter. He is obviously still healing and as we haven’t seen him in 9 months it’s a little shocking! I don’t think anyone’s trying to be nasty.

Dontcallmescarface · 09/09/2023 12:36

All I can say is fair play to him. Going out with facial injuries is bad enough (see username), but doing it when the chances are millions of people will see you is a very brave thing to do IMO.

NameOutTheBin · 09/09/2023 12:40

I suspect he's done this in a controlled manner and invited the press in this time. He's such a well loved nationally recognised personality he probably has a lot of good will built up so was given space until he asked for it.

That said. The original title was mean spirited and I don't believe the original intention of this thread was to do anything other than gawp at him in a nasty manner.

Hopingforagreatescape · 09/09/2023 12:44

He remains a very handsome man, who is very well-liked and well-respected. Not to mention brave. All credit to him.

I don't know why you've quoted me. I didn't say the photos were taken by a member of the public. I didn't say I was shocked or amazed at the interest. I know he had a terrible accident & is recovering.

thedancingbear · 09/09/2023 12:47

Thread’s fucking nasty OP.

TheCountessofLocksley · 09/09/2023 11:04

Well, on the app it is still a fairly inflammatory thread title.

"Jesus, FF's face" - if this is edited I dread to think what it said before. Please reconsider your edits, if the thread must stand why can't the title be along the lines of "FF - photo from BBC News website"

Hello @TheCountessofLocksley we edited from that to the current title. It should show on the app as the edited title too. Please let us know if you're not seeing it.

RudsyFarmer · 09/09/2023 12:49

It’s the shock that it’s a discussion point and the apparent disgust that the author has started a thread. I don’t think anyone is trying to be unpleasant, I imagine most people feel sorry for him and wish him well.

I was just about to the say the same thing. It's not gossip, it is shock that he looks like that so long after the accident. I know when I saw the photos, I told my DH and we were discussing it.

It maybe FF has chosen to recover in private and the press have respected that. Not wanting publicity doesn't necessarily equal cover up

We don't know what caused the accident, for all we know he may have been at fault or it may have been some kind of freak incident

usernother · 09/09/2023 13:01

Poor poor Freddie. He must have been in a right state. I really hope he makes a full recovery and get back on TV.

LakieLady · 09/09/2023 13:04

It doesn't matter what Flintoff's face looks like, he'll still have tremendous heart, soul and courage.
