Glad I’m not the only one who read Milligan rather than Millican!
My top tip for the CW is not to spend too long on each clue - if you don’t know the answer straight away then move on to the next one. Filing in the ones you do know will give you some letters to help with the others. Also, sometimes the answer is two words (3,2 or 2,3 - eg let up or at sea) not one 5 letter word. There are some answers which seem to come up fairly often, especially in the bottom row or right hand column, because they are where the ends of other words are.
For the PW, if there are any green letters put those in first, then look at your yellow letters and see if there are any that have to go in specific places. For example if you’ve got 2 green letters, and then one of the yellow letters is in another two columns then you’re left with only one place it can go. The other thing is that some letter combos are either common or don’t happen at all in English, so that can help as well. We never have a J and a K next to each other, or a Q without a U after it, and if you get an H and a C there’s really only one way round they can go. The PW is also always one word, despite what happens in the CW. Hope that helps!
