3:09 - had a typo, got stuck on the pw - frustrating!

Good to see the threads are still going - sorry for not contributing in recent weeks.

I'm just wondering if everyone is still enjoying Plusword? I'm beginning to feel it's a bit routine with some words that have appeared before being reused in the grid (and some words seem to have recurred several times). I'm never going to be the fastest player, but these days I consistently do it in well under 2 minutes. It's been a long time since I got completely stumped and had to mull it over for an hour or two before the final clues clicked.

Sunbird24 · 12/08/2023 20:56

Hello @DadDadDad, good to see you!
Yup, it’s not giving me the little dopamine hit it used to.

Hi @DadDadDad 👋

I agree, I don't get the same satisfaction from PlusWord these days but that's partly because of the typing glitches that I get almost every day. It's incredibly frustrating.

My current favourite puzzle is Squaredle but I also enjoy Wordall, which I sometimes find more challenging.

I also do the Irish Times and Metro cryptic crosswords which are timed. Most days I manage to place quite well on the leaderboard.

DadDadDad · 12/08/2023 22:46

Thanks for the replies. I still do Wordle every day as a warm-up for Plusword - I find enough satisfaction in keeping my streak going on Wordle, but I'm beginning to wonder about Plusword.

Chris Lancaster at The Telegraph said on the anniversary webchat that he has about 4000 dictionary words to work with, plus any proper nouns. He can also weave in short two-word phrases. Some candidate words will be (near) impossible to fit into a grid, so with over 400 puzzles already devised each using 11 words, I wonder how many more he can wring out of this format?

I'm actually enjoying the NYT Connections puzzles these days (even if some of the connections are US-centric).

01:05, thanks to forgetting the very straightforward answer to 1A.

Thanks for mentioning Squareword @Sunbird24, I hadn't come across that one. Also still enjoying Waffle.

Drywhitefruitycidergin · 14/08/2023 00:46

1:48 - hi @DadDadDad
I agree pw less challenging and my average 2:30-3min times are now under 2 mostly but still enjoying it. I find connections frustrating- I want it to be like the wall in OC
Yes to waffle, also metrodle & clickword although I'm really crap at clickword

It's a shame I didn't know 8A so had to complete from the 'down' clues

Took me a little while to get going after a complete mental block about 1A or 6A, then had to deal with the over-typing issues. Got the PW straight away though.
