What's good in Morrison's?

I've recently moved to a new house where Morrison's is within walking distance. It's one supermarket I've never used before. Wondered if there's anything particularly nice there, as I'm finding it a bit bewildering at the moment!

The pizzas are lush - especially the veggie one 😋
Morrisons is by far the best supermarket for coeliacs, and free from in general. They often have excellent discounts on gf food.

Ha ha at "the exit"!
The pharmacy at my local Morrison's is brilliant.
They usually have the tea I like on offer.
Their premium hot cross buns are good.
But on the whole I am not a big fan. Their fruit is ludicrously expensive.

Foxymoxy68 · 04/08/2023 00:08

Morrisons is good for 'free from' products-great for a coeliac like me! Wish they did the Schar frozen rolls though!
They also have a good fish counter and deli at my local store too.

bellsbuss · 04/08/2023 00:09

They have an amazing fish counter, bakery items are better than Sainsbury's as well

nocoolnamesleft · 04/08/2023 00:13

I find the meat far and away the best supermarket meat, including more likely to have some of the interesting cuts.

Suspific · 04/08/2023 00:14

Mini marshmallows for hot chocolate. Niche I know but the best!

Appalonia · 04/08/2023 10:31

Thanks for all the replies, good news about the meat...and the jam doughnuts! 😂

Probably depends on how good the local branch is. Ours sells excellent quality fruit, veg and meat much cheaper than Waitrose which is my only other supermarket without involving a drive. Unless their branded products are on offer they are often more expensive than Waitrose. I like M&S best these days but it's a bit of a schlep to the nearest food hall, unfortunately.

Chantholtmouse · 04/08/2023 12:09

Their jam doughnuts and custard doughnuts are good. Their meat is good quality. Everything else is pretty generic.

CrispsnDips · 04/08/2023 12:16

I’ve shopped online for years ..they’re currently selling amazing chicken fillets in soy/ginger with teriyaki sauce ..yum yum

i have found the quality of food is fantastic, far better than Asda!

Frosty1000 · 04/08/2023 12:27

Bakery is great - rolls etc are cheapest around but better - 6 finger rolls for 35p for instance. Hot cross buns are less spicy than others so kids prefer them.

Meat, as previously mentioned - their burgers are really juicy. Yorkshire puddings are the best tasting fresh ones you can buy.

Bathroom spray randomly smells lovely and not fake chemical yuck.

I also buy the flavoured water as well as less funny after taste.

Children's clothes really good quality

I do shop around though and just get bits.

RitzyMcFitzy · 04/08/2023 12:28

Only supermarket where I can find cuts like beef shin and ox cheek. So for that alone I rate Morrison's.

Salt and pepper rolls 🥰

I came to say salt and pepper French stick!!

BarbaraofSeville · 04/08/2023 12:33

Surprised at some of these comments.

They do a lot of things a lot better than the other supermarkets

They have a proper butchery and an excellent fresh fish counter

Their square scones, pretty much the only supermarket scones that are actually edible, except perhaps those on the M&S fresh counter. Their pitta breads are the best by far.

Longley Farm cottage cheese, also Chovi allioli, although I get mine from Home Bargains as it's much cheaper.

Peppermint creams in bags.

They make their own sandwiches, pasta salads in store, so much fresher.

Then all normal branded stuff, fruit and veg etc, all fine.

Middleagedmeangirls · 04/08/2023 12:38

i agree the beef is very good. Their decaff ground coffee is as nice as Lavazza and half the price. The 10% fat Greek style yoghurt is delicious as is their own brand Muscadet.

I do most of my shopping at Ocado but make a special trip to Morrisons for these things.

PurplePeach62 · 04/08/2023 12:40

Their French style stubby bottles of lager are the only reason I go there (Tesco stopped selling the equivalent or I wouldn't bother). Other than that I think they're overpriced and in my local store the staff constantly chat amongst themselves while serving customers which is annoying

HermioneWeasley · 03/08/2023 19:44

The beef is amazing - steaks, roasting joints etc.

Really? I find the steaks have a funny powdery texture and the minced steak mince has no flavour at all. Aldis steak is the best I think especially their ribeye.

GiddyGladys · 04/08/2023 12:48

Only the cakes. The fish stinks. Don't buy that Grin

crosstalk · 04/08/2023 12:55

It depends on the Morrisons. One I used to visit was great on vegetables (and sourcing), fresh meat and fish (including local crab). My nearest is not great, but fish still good and some of its garden stuff is cheap and brilliant.

MsRinky · 04/08/2023 12:57

I make a special trip there for the Longley Farm cottage cheese. They also have loads of good flatbreads - naan, pitta, lavash, khobez...

ThisNameHasChanged · 04/08/2023 13:02

The white chocolate hazelnut spread (like the inside of a Kinder Bueno).
It's the only place i can find Yeungs Chinese curry sauce mix.
Beef or ready salted potato sticks
Flat iron steaks
Peach squash
Everything off the hot counter
Salad bar

nebulae · 04/08/2023 13:07

As others have said...
Salad bar
Salt and pepper bread
Longley Farm cottage cheese with chives
Jam doughnuts
Best range sausages

ThelmaBorden · 04/08/2023 13:16

they occasionally have Venison

we have had excellent kitchenware from here

plants, flowers always good quality

knowledgeable trained fishmonger, good fish,
good offers, although some items are overpriced,
own brands are good- we have Morrisons Redbush
tea for example.
We shop here onlline too as everything comes from the
distribution centre in Oxfordshire so always fresh.
Happy Shopping

liondreams · 04/08/2023 13:17

their potted flowers / potted plants are good!

MalloryMae · 04/08/2023 14:03

Not sure if anyones already said it but they do the most amazing aioli in there (yellow tub)
