Anyone noticed Dove deodorant?

The smell of the classic deodorant - the one with the blue lid - has altered so it now smells nothing like the soap. And, certainly on me, it's not working as well. Have they had a re-vamp because the lid design has changed? I'm well disappointed and will have to start trialling new deodorants so I can get back to one that actually works. Why do manufacturers do this?

I'm glad it's not just me!

I assume it's all made elsewhere now as I'm not in the UK and also noticed a difference.

I like the one with the pink cap, also the normal royal blue. I bought 3 as they were on offer, 2 pink and one blue. I have this bloody almighty rash under only one underarm now from the pink one. And it didn't seem to work very well and the scent just isn't the same.

I'm so annoyed, I have been using it for years and years, so it has to have changed. And why only one underarm is baffling me too.

Suddenly, for me, the 'no marks' one (does that have a pink cap?) gave me a horrendous red, itchy rash that I haven't had before. I don't suffer it with the original, blue cap version. No other deodorants work for me so I hope they don't make any more changes!

Hello fellow itchy underarm.

This pink one isn't the no marks one, that one here has a grey cap. Perhaps we get different ones, as I have never seen one that a pp referred to with an orange lid (a fruity one). Do you get the cucumber one with the green lid? This one is (was) so fresh for summer. It's been winter here so I haven't bought that one for a while, but maybe I should check it out to see if they changed that one too.

I moved over to Sanex roll on now until this rash goes away. It's OK for now, but I don't love it as I hate that wet feeling when using normal roll on.

But this messing with the formula doesn't make me happy.

I did just check out UK Boots and we do have quite different options.

I can't imagine passion fruit to be honest. Or coconut.

I just got a white lid Dove"original" delivered in my shopping - it's revolting. I smell like toilet freshner and really sticky - Horrid!

  • All product formulations change regularly, depending on what ingredients are available and at what price. This is constant, across all departments, always has been a and always will be.

Jews know this well, which is why ALL packaged food, cleaning and hygiene/beauty products are reassessed against kosher standards every 6 months*

I've still not forgiven lemsip for the time they changed their ingredients and rather than easing my cold and flu symptoms, gave me violent d&v instead.

I stopped using dove a couple of years ago and use Mitchum now instead

@SapatSea thanks for the heads up!!

@Justleaveitblankthen thanks for that. I might give it another go, I didn't like it last time, but it may have changed. I threw a few different ones out last weekend when
i was decluttering the cabinet. But I think I'll work my way through the blue ones, the old & the.new, until they're gone then start the trial

its so Fecking annoying as it WAS the ONE thing that I wasn't struggling with, it was bomb proof! Bloody twats!!

Go for a cup instead of tampons.

I tried but honestly at this point in my life I’m just not willing to go through that. I found they have plenty in other regions of the country so I just stock up when I travel.

Most obviously, it's to get you to start using their newer, more expensive often inferior version of that product

Or there's a new marketing manager fresh out of poly, desperate to make their mark on an established brand.

It could have had a white cap? We also have the cucumber one, but I've never tried it. We've just come out of winter too. I really, really hope they original formulation keeps working as summer is predicted to be quite a hot one.

Rightguard Extreme 72 hours spray in Cool.is good, only spray i can find that actually works

Puddycatfan · 04/09/2023 06:45

Thank goodness it's not just me. I hummed a bit yesterday, which is not normal and I've just checked the lid on my new deoderant - it's a white one.

Why can't they just leave things the fuck alone??!

WutheringMights · 04/09/2023 06:49

For comparison, here is a Dove Original from around 6 months ago versus a Dove Original purchased last week.

There's 50ml less in the recent purchase and when comparing the ingredients, there are some differences.

I agree that the newer version doesn't have the same scent, doesn't last as well and is more expensive. Shame - I have used the brand for a few years now and loved it until the recent changes.

I like the pomegranate one but it’s shot up in price. Have gone back to Nivea deodorant which is half the price of dove and works well.

AnotherCountryMummy · 04/09/2023 07:09

So pleased I'm not going out of my mind! I've used Dove for years and never been smelly. But it's suddenly failing me and here is why. The fuckers.

gandeysflipflop · 04/09/2023 07:20

I'm annoyed at Radox for changing the scents of their shower gels particularly the green one. Always loved radox why the fk do they do this other than the fact it must be cheaper for them. Bottles are now smaller and more expensive now too like everything else ffs.

BlackJumpsuit · 04/09/2023 07:29

It's so so disappointing! I've struggled with finding the right deodorant for years and Invisible Dry was just the holy grail!!

Let's all bombard them with complaints!!

Upanddownthemerrygoround · 04/09/2023 07:47

So glad I’ve read this. Thought it was a menopause sign as my pits have just been wet and sometimes smelly this summer despite it not being that warm.

MattDamon · 04/09/2023 07:57

This is so timely. I was just saying to my partner how all of a sudden I was getting smelly before I even finished work. I even bought a different Dove but it's not working either.

It’s awful. It’s a shame as it was one of the few deodorants that just smelled ‘clean’. I don’t want fragrances to work in competition to perfume

Is that Men's or Women's?

Motherhubbardscupboard · 04/09/2023 08:04

I've used the blue lid roll on for years, thought the new one was just a new shape, but no, it doesn't keep me dry so the formulation has changed too. You can still buy the older shape in shops such as Savers so I've stocked up! After that I'll have to change brands which is such a hassle.

Right, so I am going to stock up on the 250ml of the blue cap as we can still get those here, as I am thinking that these must be the proper original.

I am using my newly purchased blue cap original 150ml (pic of which I posted upthread) as my one sided underarm rash seems to be okay now. It's 10.20am here, and even though its going to be quite warm today, a quick whiff of the pit is not giving me the just normal deo smell. To me its a 3pm been at work most of the day kind of aroma. I usually never get a bad sweaty smell anyway, but to not be feeling fresh at 10.20am when I had a shower 4 hours ago.....nah, something isn't right.

ciderhouserules · 04/09/2023 10:55

I will NEVER buy anything Dove again, after they tweeted their admiration and support of the Male NZ weightlifter Lauren Hubble in the Female NZ weightlifting team in the Olympics. Their main customers must be women. Did they think we wouldn't notice? Angry Or do they just hold us in such disdain?

Their soap is NOT soap (as noticed by millions of buyers in the 'pandemic' - it was the only thing left on the shelf and even then no one would buy it.)
Their 'deodorant' is rank and useless
Their shower gel packages are always left over after Christmas.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 04/09/2023 19:58

This happened to me with original source coconut shower gel. It smelled amazing then they did something to it and I still like it but it's not the same

Plasmodesmata · 06/09/2023 13:46

Thankyou for this thread. I thought I was just sweating more. Nope - turns out the deodorant I had been using for ages (Dove roll on, pomegranate and something flavour, pink lid) is just crap now. Bought Sure instead and am much less sweaty.
