Anyone noticed Dove deodorant?

The smell of the classic deodorant - the one with the blue lid - has altered so it now smells nothing like the soap. And, certainly on me, it's not working as well. Have they had a re-vamp because the lid design has changed? I'm well disappointed and will have to start trialling new deodorants so I can get back to one that actually works. Why do manufacturers do this?

Why do shops stop selling a product that you buy every week ? It’s annoying.

SmileyClare · 28/07/2023 09:04

Dove seem to have a cheaper version labelled Dove “classic” with a white lid. It just smells like any neutral supermarket brand to me. I bought it and was v. disappointed!

The one that has the distinctive soap scent is Dove “original” blue lid. Unfortunately it’s gone up to around £3.50 a can.

I quite like the Sure 72 hour deodorant in “cotton fresh” as an alternative.

Most obviously, it's to get you to start using their newer, more expensive often inferior version of that product

Yes, I used dove invisible dry for years, then it changed perfume (horrible flowery scent) and gave me a rash. Am using sure at the moment, seems ok. At least no rash!

Mochacino · 28/07/2023 09:20

I have used the black lid one for no white marks for years. The smell is now mildly different but it’s the massive cost jump that gets me! You could have always found a tin for a pound in Home Bargains or somewhere but now the “reduced” price anywhere is 2.50!

BobbinThreadbare123 · 28/07/2023 09:27

I've used the Dove deodorant that smells of pears for yonks. Last time I went to buy it, it had gone up to four quid a tin. I've swapped to the white lid Classic one but it's not quite right. Don't know what they're playing at!

SheRaaaaa · 28/07/2023 09:31

Switch to a solid crystal one, like pitrok. It lasts forever, is cheaper, is better for you and the environment and it works better.

ShirleyPhallus · 28/07/2023 09:32

I know Dove is supposed to have this real empowering women beauty message but I can still remember when someone from Dove came on here to ask for people who are happy “embracing their flaws” and the gave perfectly normal things like freckles and glasses as examples of these supposed flaws.

gallop17 · 28/07/2023 09:34

Are you certain you didn't accidentally buy the white lid one? I did the other month, it says classic but smells different.

That said, I have used blue lid dove for decades as nothing else seemed to work the same, and whilst the smell seems the same to me, I said to DH I thought it wasn't working as well just this week, wasn't sure if it was dove or my age ha.

Seeleyboo · 28/07/2023 09:34

Oh gosh, I'm so glad I saw this thread as I just thought I was turning into a smelly pork pie. I've tried all of the Dove roll ons recently, and I always smell. I've been using it for years and never had this issue until recently.

MadeForThis · 28/07/2023 09:44

I loved the apple one but it's been discontinued. Almost glad as price shot up to £4.50

gallop17 · 28/07/2023 09:50

Never pay full price for Dove, it's often on offer through the year, around £2.

Whataboutye88 · 28/07/2023 09:50

Yes me too! Have used it for years but recently it’s not working, and the scent is completely different. So disappointing.

Rockbird · 28/07/2023 09:51

I'm glad someone has noticed the price increase. I like the one with the orange lid, passion fruit or something and it was between £1.70-£2 till about six months ago. Now it's £4.50. Sod that.

No, for example I used to buy a certain yougurt from Sainsbury’s, then they just stopped selling it. There was no newer yogurt that it was replaced with.
And Nescafé stopped making a certain coffee I liked, so I contacted them and asked why. They said it was due to a lack of sales but I disagree, it was often out of stock when there were piles of other, similar, coffees.

VinEtFromage · 28/07/2023 09:57

Oh FFS.

I use the roll on with the blue lid. If they'd changed this I'm going to scream!

i haven't bought any for a while as I'd bought loads when it was on a really good offer.

im on a roll of things I like being discontinued 🥲

Imdrivinginmygetawaycar · 28/07/2023 10:01

I like the roll on with blue lid but our local asda often doesn't stock it. Which I think is just rude!

Showdogworkingdog · 28/07/2023 10:03

And it’s shrunk. Bastards.

Blossomtoes · 28/07/2023 10:07

Aldi’s deodorant is just as good as Dove and it smells like the Dove of old.

Mrbingleysbuttons · 28/07/2023 10:15

I found this a few months ago. It didn't smell the same and actually it wasn't effective at stopping sweating. A friend suggested Salt of the Earth and gave me some to try and I am a convert. I have the unscented one and it is magic!

maddiemookins16mum · 28/07/2023 10:27

£1.25 in the Coop yesterday, I bought 5.

caringcarer · 28/07/2023 10:28

I use the Dove dry solid stick. It's kind to my skin. My NiL knows I like and buys 3 every year to put into a sticking she makes me. These 3 large solid sticks of deodorant last me 5 or 6 months every year. I'm using these up so not bought any recently but I do always buy the one with the blue lid.

amylou8 · 28/07/2023 10:48

I've got the Lidl dupe that smells pretty much the same and seems to do the job, and is 1.20 for a big tin.

bilbodog · 28/07/2023 10:56

Maybe its because of being manufactured somewhere else now - it used to be made in russia which is why it was difficult to find any for a while until they sourced a different supplier.

WibblyWobblyJane · 28/07/2023 11:04

I think we need to have laws that prevent companies from modifying women’s products without a referendum. I’m mostly kidding, but I do get really angry about this.

OB tampons have again become very difficult to find in my area of US. Last time it was because they had completely shut down their manufacturing facility and didn’t seem to care if that meant we went without. I couldn’t find them anywhere and on eBay they were selling for $26 a package.

If you’ve been a product for decades, what the hell do they expect us to do? I blame men.
