What is the best compliment you have ever received?

I've seen a couple of threads recently about horrible things you've overheard someone say about you, or back-handed compliments, so thought it was time for a more positive thread!

What is the best compliment / nicest thing anyone has ever said about you or to you?

One of my favourite ever colleagues said to me how impressed he was that I could talk to anyone, however senior/important, and always seemed comfortable with public speaking. At the time I really didn't feel that way, but it gave me the confidence boost I needed and now I do feel it!

“Fucking incredible, half my 30 year old male clients can’t do that” said by my PT after my 50kg bench press. I weigh 60kg and am 57 years old.

This thread is nice to read 😊 I can't recall ever having been complimented but to be fair I have always been fat, never been pretty, I have alopecia and I'm not clever or funny which I think is what a person is usually complimented on.
I do enjoy complimenting people, I have a weird theory that people who are good in any way should be told.

What a nice thing to do for people. You sound very thoughtful and observant x

I'm rather overwhelmed by the kindness of strangers on this thread, ty 😊

During a very ugly divorce and terrible time in my life I was amazed by the kindness and thoughtfulness of my friends. I said to one of them, who I still find to be one of the very best people I know, that I felt so lucky for the good people in my life. She said “like attracts like.” I felt so worthless at that time but her comment made me think that if I could attract people as wonderful as my friends I must be ok.

I'm a qualified and panel-registered judge in a particular sport, but I make a point of regularly offering my time to judge at lower levels, because I think it's important to encourage at grassroots level.

I was judging at a high-level competition a while ago and pulled in my winner. As I was handing out the awards, the winner said, "I don't know if you remember me, but you judged me at a [much lower-level] competition years ago. I wasn't placed, but you made the time to come and speak to me and tell me how I could improve. You were so kind and encouraging and here I am!"

I had to turn away because I actually had tears in my eyes (I'm not a crier).

I was a bit of a funny looking kid, with a pointy face, big nose and bushy eyebrows, and got used to being “the ugly one” at school. When I was about 8 or 9, a friend of my mum’s told me I had a lovely face and would be beautiful when I grew up. It meant a ridiculous amount to me.

Idk why but I think this is my favourite thread that I've ever read on MN. I've read every reply

I told DD today, we can’t host the family Christmas as the oven has broken down. We are having an extension, so even if we replaced it, it is not big enough for the new kitchen design! It’s not worth it!

Apparently, it’s ruined son in law’s evening! He loves our family Christmas! He told her, they have to invite us round for Xmas, before DS does!

I was listening to a singer whose music and voice I really love, and my ds(6) said 'she sounds just like you when you sing, mummy'.
