(Inanity alert) Where do you keep your ironing board?

If you don’t have one, no need to reply 😉

I have a tiny maisonette and until now have kept mine in the cupboard under the stairs, where it falls out a lot and really gets in the way.

I have more space in a little box room upstairs and am wondering if I should keep it there and just do the ironing in my bedroom? The bonus would be that I could keep the ironing in the box room instead of on display in the living room as inevitably happens.

Am getting a handyman in to do some bits and am wondering where to put storage hooks etc. Saturday nights aren’t what they used to be!

I thought this was going to be for ideas as to where your ironing board might be! Mine life's in a space between the wardrobe and the wall in my bedroom. Prior to that it lived between the freezer and the wall in the kitchen.

We used to keep ours upstairs on a hook on the back of the linen cupboard door. It did incetivise me to move the clean laundry upstairs, to be fair. Now we have a utility room.

However more importantly this thread had reminded me of one YEARS ago where the OP had lost her ironing board I her small minimalist house and now it's going to drive me bats wondering it if ever was found....

Same. I was thinking about it only the other day after another post

Hook on my wardrobe door. Rarely used tbf

VikingLady · 22/07/2023 23:03

I swapped a proper ironing board for an ironing mat I can roll out onto a table. It takes up less space.

Ineedwinenow · 22/07/2023 23:12

Ours Is gathering dust in the utility room, we purposely left a gap between the wall and the start of the cupboards for the bloody thing….

We have someone who does our ironing but hubby insists on keeping that and the iron just in case something needs ironing urgently that already hasn’t been done.

This emergency has never happened in 13 years but I suppose you never know!

AnOldCynic · 23/07/2023 08:01

@Intothewoodswithallthegoods hang it on the back of your box room door. Looking into the room you won't see it and it'll be handy for you if you start to iron upstairs.

I have mine on the back of my wardrobe door.

Ambi · 23/07/2023 08:04

Barely used, DH wants to put it in the loft. It's currently in a cupboard under the stairs. I'd like a small table top one for the odd item that needs ironing.

1984Winston · 23/07/2023 08:05

We had a new kitchen when we bought our house and I had a cupboard added just for the ironing board and iron, it's sad but I love it!

In fact when DS was 5 my sister came to visit, she used it and DS said to me, what is that. 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂

My proudest moment...

🤣

FloofCloud · 23/07/2023 08:07

Behind the utility room door - but when it falls, pushing the door shut and the ironing board is caught between the wall to The left and the wall to the right of the door it's a pain to get into the room lol 😆

ChaliceinWonderland · 23/07/2023 08:07

Oh love thus thread! Nicking idea ov keeping it in bedroom., great idea . Mines in the dining room, but carrying stuff upstairs once ironed is annoying.

CatticusFinch · 23/07/2023 08:30

In the box room down the side of a wardrobe. I either iron in there if I'm just doing the odd thing or move into bedroom if I'm doing a full load.

Wasn't there a thread once, years ago, where someone had lost their ironing board in their house?

Ambi · 23/07/2023 09:03

Our old house it was in the walk in wardrobe, so easy to put stuff away after ironing.

I know, it would be much easier but I love my full-on steam iron and it needs a big wide heavy ironing board to support it, and also to stop water dripping through it after a long steam session. I hate ironing and this actually makes it bearable.

I have a steam generator iron, the base and water container sit on the floor when I iron and the handset on my quite small ironing board. Both live happily in my wardrobe.

Ginmonkeyagain · 23/07/2023 09:09

In the hall cupboard. It's one of those small countertop ones

hopeishere · 23/07/2023 09:27

In the airing cupboard. I use it in my bedroom (rarely!) and it's easier if you can iron then put the thing away immediately!

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 23/07/2023 09:31

In the little extension room at the back of the house which I use to dry washing

Ragwort · 23/07/2023 09:32

In the downstairs cloakroom, just leaning against the wall .. I do move it (to the garage) if we have visitors, we do have a utility room but it's so small that there would be no space for it in there.

CornedBeef451 · 23/07/2023 09:36

@Itisyourturntowashthebath glad it's not just me losing ironing boards!

I found mine in the coat cupboard, tucked away in the winter coats. Now have to find the iron and then possibly dispose of both.

Houselamp · 23/07/2023 09:45

We have a lift up bed and ours is kept in there

CloudPop · 23/07/2023 09:47

TropicalTrama · 22/07/2023 19:35

Get a clothes steamer instead!

I don't quite get clothes steamers - they just look like a different kind of iron? Do you have a link to a good one? I love the idea but can't see one that I can understand how it works

TheFormidableMrsC · 23/07/2023 09:49

Down the side of the fridge freezer but it's a standalone one next to a wall so I have a gap to store it.

Thelonelygiraffe · 23/07/2023 09:52

In the utility room, in the gap between the window and the end of the worktop...

Mirrordoor · 23/07/2023 11:07

We have a utility/lean to and keep it in a little gap between the stacked washing machine/tumble dryer and a tall cupboard. I've not ironed in years but recently a bit sick of us all looking so dishevelled so it's getting more frequent use again.

In previous houses I've kept it over the back of the door on a hanger either in the spare room or cupboard, underneath the sofa (as long as it's not visible) and next to the window in the living room as it was hidden by the long curtains.
