(Inanity alert) Where do you keep your ironing board?

If you don’t have one, no need to reply 😉

I have a tiny maisonette and until now have kept mine in the cupboard under the stairs, where it falls out a lot and really gets in the way.

I have more space in a little box room upstairs and am wondering if I should keep it there and just do the ironing in my bedroom? The bonus would be that I could keep the ironing in the box room instead of on display in the living room as inevitably happens.

Am getting a handyman in to do some bits and am wondering where to put storage hooks etc. Saturday nights aren’t what they used to be!

Mine is on a hook for ironing boards on the back of the airing cupboard door, I always do my ironing upstairs. If you don’t have much room you can get smaller ironing boards that don’t have legs as such and you can use them on a work surface, might be easier for storage.

We keep ours in our bedroom (top floor) bedroom is very big so plenty of room.

UpUpUpU · 22/07/2023 19:25

Mine is down the side of the fridge, unused 😬

I know, it would be much easier but I love my full-on steam iron and it needs a big wide heavy ironing board to support it, and also to stop water dripping through it after a long steam session. I hate ironing and this actually makes it bearable.

In the back hall cupboard. With the vacuum cleaner, the broom, the dustpan and brush, and shit like that! Grin

Nannyfannybanny · 22/07/2023 19:27

2 hooks on the inside of the airing cupboard door, iron on a special holder in the same cupboard. Open plan bungalow.

TribeD · 22/07/2023 19:27

in the utility room, it seems to quite like it in there as it rarely comes out.

SockGoddess · 22/07/2023 19:28

I have the hook thing that fits over a door and has holders for both the board and the iron. It's still a faff to get it off but at least it's out of the way and not in the way of anything else.

I'd love to have it up all the time, more for sewing uses than to iron clothes, but there's not enough space.

afaloren · 22/07/2023 19:28

Growing up my mum kept it in my wardrobe which drove me batty! Now I have an ironing pad which I keep in the garage.

Riverlee · 22/07/2023 19:28

In the bathroom.

xogossipgirlxo · 22/07/2023 19:29

In tiny space between fridge and wall.

User894532765 · 22/07/2023 19:29

I rarely iron and keep mine in the box room down the side of the wardrobe, if I need to iron something I just do it in the box room, I don't have a basket of ironing to do though just the odd thing occasionally

HighEndGrifters · 22/07/2023 19:29

In the boiler room, rarely used, I have had an ironing lady for 34 years. 😂

LosingTheBelly · 22/07/2023 19:30

In our sitting room.

That's DCat's preferred place for it as she likes to sit up high.

SockGoddess · 22/07/2023 19:31

Here's an example of the door thing:

EBearhug · 22/07/2023 19:31

Edwardian terrace. Cupboard under the stairs with the vacuum. Only really gets in the way if I need to get out luggage to use or the Christmas decorations, neither of which happens often. It's convenient for the sitting room, which is where I do the ironing, usually with something in the telly. It will be getting it out after my tea's finished.

HighEndGrifters · 22/07/2023 19:31

In fact when DS was 5 my sister came to visit, she used it and DS said to me, what is that. 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂

My proudest moment...

Roselilly36 · 22/07/2023 19:32

Down the side of our fridge/freezer and between the kitchen cupboards, gets used a couple of times a week.

Florenceatemycake · 22/07/2023 19:32

Behind the sofa.

SockGoddess · 22/07/2023 19:32

Sorry for giant link.

If you get a door hanger thing, check carefully so you get the right type to hold your ironing board (as the legs can vary) and measure to make sure that when your ironing board in hanging on it, it won't reach the ground.

Redshoeblueshoe · 22/07/2023 19:33

Mine lives in a little space in the box room, and I iron in my bedroom

HedgesNotFences · 22/07/2023 19:33

At the side of the front door. It’s hidden by the curtain.

ejbaxa · 22/07/2023 19:34

(I’m sorry I don’t have one - but the reason for it is that I had nowhere to store it!). Previously in our old house, the kitchen had a tall cupboard with a thin space - probably designed for an ironing board.

if it falls out of your cupboard under the stairs, can you hang it on the door to that cupboard or on the wall inside? Or get hooks put behind a door somewhere else (might need door stop to prevent door from hitting board).

MargaretThursday · 22/07/2023 19:34

Under the sofa. We started putting it there when we were moving house and had house viewings. But it fits perfectly so we've left it there.
