(Inanity alert) Where do you keep your ironing board?

If you don’t have one, no need to reply 😉

I have a tiny maisonette and until now have kept mine in the cupboard under the stairs, where it falls out a lot and really gets in the way.

I have more space in a little box room upstairs and am wondering if I should keep it there and just do the ironing in my bedroom? The bonus would be that I could keep the ironing in the box room instead of on display in the living room as inevitably happens.

Am getting a handyman in to do some bits and am wondering where to put storage hooks etc. Saturday nights aren’t what they used to be!

Get a clothes steamer instead!

fuckmyuteruslining · 22/07/2023 19:36

In a specific alcove I had built in to the new kitchen with a shelf above it for the iron, it's fabulous.

CurlewKate · 22/07/2023 19:37

On special hooks on the back of my bedroom door.

I have an enormous cupboard-under-the-stairs... my ironing board lives in there along with the iron, toolbox, spare lightbulbs, stockpiled dog food (bought on offer) sundry outerwear and various bits of boxed up memorabilia... It's a glorious extra bit of hidden space that is so useful!

Mine is down the side of the fridge, unused 😬

Same. On the rare occasion it's needed if it doesn't get put away again people just use it as a table to dump dishes on instead of going all the way in to the kitchen to put them beside the sink. Does my head in.

Afolnerd · 22/07/2023 19:48

It did live on hooks on the back of the door to the utility room.
It now lives under the 19 year olds bed as he is the only one who can be bothered to iron anything!

Dotcheck · 22/07/2023 19:49

In the downstairs loo. I built hooks and a shelf high on the wall so it would have its own home.

Yetisrus29 · 22/07/2023 19:50

Mine is behind the sitting room door, it never gets shut unless ive burnt something and the snoke alarm is going off, so seems a good place for it.

pastabest · 22/07/2023 19:51

Out and proud in my sewing room. It rarely gets used for boring domestic ironing, just for 'pressing' as I sew.

FadedRed · 22/07/2023 19:53

In the purpose made “ironing board and vacuum cleaner storage cupboard” in the kitchen.

TheFairyCaravan · 22/07/2023 19:54

We’ve got one of our spare bedrooms done out with fitted wardrobes so I keep it in there. I iron in our bedroom, watching the telly, then put it all straight away.

Xelda · 22/07/2023 19:57

Ours is under the sofa, out of sight but easy to get out.

OrigamiOwls · 22/07/2023 20:10

Behind the sofa

greenacrylicpaint · 22/07/2023 20:12

in the attic.
my sister has hers as plant stand on the balcony Grin

TheNoodlesIncident · 22/07/2023 20:41

Ours is down the side of the fridge freezer, which is in an alcove. I'd rather we had a nice utility room it could live in.

We use it a bit more now but for years I only used it once to fix tea-soaked bandages with WonderWeb to white leggings and long sleeve top in order to transform DS into a rather gruesome looking mummy. DS was mystified by its appearance as he hadn't seen it in action before.

Put hooks on the back of the box room door, why not? Unless you want a cupboard it'll fit into with a shelf for the iron and bottle of ironing water.

Bluevelvetsofa · 22/07/2023 20:44

Cupboard under the stairs along with the cordless vacuum cleaner, a Hettie, the window vac, feather duster, shoe rack, bits and pieces.

SummerSazz · 22/07/2023 20:57

In the larder on hooks

finewelshcheese · 22/07/2023 21:33

In the bedroom in a gap between wardrobes. I'd LOVE a laundry room.

CornedBeef451 · 22/07/2023 21:33

I've just realised i don't know! We moved 9 months ago and it came with us but I don't think it's been used since.

I should probably have a look for it.

BettyOBarley · 22/07/2023 21:42

Down the side of the fridge freezer

thenightsky · 22/07/2023 21:47

Behind the utility room door, where it comes crashing down on my every time I go to put salt blocks in the water softener.

When I lived in a tiny bedsit/flat like OP, it lived under the bed, flat on the floor.

aintnospringchicken · 22/07/2023 21:57

In the utility room

Scaraben · 22/07/2023 22:25

We used to keep ours upstairs on a hook on the back of the linen cupboard door. It did incetivise me to move the clean laundry upstairs, to be fair. Now we have a utility room.

However more importantly this thread had reminded me of one YEARS ago where the OP had lost her ironing board I her small minimalist house and now it's going to drive me bats wondering it if ever was found....

Mine used to be down the side of the fridge freezer. But it isn't now, I'll look for it tomorrow.

BarbaraofSeville · 22/07/2023 22:41

Do you actually use it? I got rid of ours after the cats destroyed the cover and I realised it had only been used about once in 5 years anyway.

If we need to iron, we just do it on a towel on the kitchen island. I think that's happened twice and once was when hemming curtains which would have probably been done on the island anyway, as more space.
