What did you do for your 50th?

Hard to believe I'm typing these words but I turn 50 tomorrow. Not sure how it happened lol as I still feel about 18!

Anyway tomorrow DD1 and I are going to David Lloyd for a class then a spa & a chill out for a couple of hours. After that DD1 is cooking for us all courtesy of Gousto! And she has some cocktails lined up too. On Saturday OH & DD1 are taking me away for the weekend to a surprise destination (not sure how I feel about that but I'm sure it will be fun!). DD2 is going to her friend's as apparently she's not interested in joining in!

I've also had a few beauty treatments done over the past few weeks as I've never spent much money on that sort of thing before.

I just have a bit of a knot in my stomach as to me 50 sounds so much older than 49 though it's been a nice surprise when people tell me I don't look my age.

What did you all do for your 50th and did you feel any different after turning 50?

I spent two weeks on the south of France and on the day swam in the Med. Also had a lovely meal in the evening.

Went on a cruise holiday. Total relaxation and no children. Bliss. I did put on 6lbs though in 12 days.

Originally I wanted to go away and see the northern lights but uncertainty with travel scuppered those plans.
I went for afternoon tea with friends and lots of Prosecco to celebrate.
I will get to see the northern lights one day.

I went to a famous English range of hills and met up with a huge gaggle of friends for a picnic. Then we walked to a lovely hotel nearby and had dinner and stayed over. I tried to keep it very simple for those without lots of time or money so wasn't expecting many at the hotel, but a huge number stayed, and a dear friend lugged champagne up the hill for the picnic. I loved it.

Though tbh the really basic BYOB party I had for my 40th was a riot.

Went to a Michelin star restaurant for a tasting lunch with friends , just two couples and enjoyed a long lunch and wine then in the evening had a bit of a low key family get together and the next day family Sunday lunch

Took day off work, lunch with friend, tea with DH and DC. More than enough.

Went to NYC with my 2 daughters. It had been my dream since a child. It was wonderful.

For my 40th, I worked all day then went to the pub with work crew, then neighbours arrived in and family travelled from further out...neighbours continued in pub and later in our street until all hours. We are a sociable cup de sac!

DH 50th was in lockdown - we're taking a trip to an EU capital we've never visited next month to mark it and had a nice steak dinner just our family at the time.

Mine is next year, I plan to do a ski holiday over winter and am starting to figure out how to mark it on the day.

Your plans sound lovely!

Had all my closest friends for a restaurant dinner.

tacomaco · 12/07/2023 19:40

Say with my best friend in my garden in February and had some food and drinks. Wasn’t what I wanted but we did the best we could - lockdown.

DragonflyLady · 12/07/2023 19:41

Went to Disney. Don’t feel any older than I did at 30 never mind 40. 50’s fine!!

I was 50 a fortnight ago and still feel 17 inside! I took 2 weeks off, spent the first with various friends for drinks, dinners, had my hair done and a massage. The second week I went to France for a lovely break. Highly recommend some pampering and surrounding yourself with those who mean the most to you. Enjoy and happy birthday x
