What did you do for your 50th?

Hard to believe I'm typing these words but I turn 50 tomorrow. Not sure how it happened lol as I still feel about 18!

Anyway tomorrow DD1 and I are going to David Lloyd for a class then a spa & a chill out for a couple of hours. After that DD1 is cooking for us all courtesy of Gousto! And she has some cocktails lined up too. On Saturday OH & DD1 are taking me away for the weekend to a surprise destination (not sure how I feel about that but I'm sure it will be fun!). DD2 is going to her friend's as apparently she's not interested in joining in!

I've also had a few beauty treatments done over the past few weeks as I've never spent much money on that sort of thing before.

I just have a bit of a knot in my stomach as to me 50 sounds so much older than 49 though it's been a nice surprise when people tell me I don't look my age.

What did you all do for your 50th and did you feel any different after turning 50?

Nothing as it was in lockdown !
Honestly, I found 50 easier than 40.

CMOTDibbler · 12/07/2023 08:47

DH took me away for a lovely weekend in London - posh dinners, afternoon tea and a shopping spree. It was great.
But I don't feel any different, in fact I feel like turning 30 and 40 felt more of a thing

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 12/07/2023 08:48

Didn’t feel any different tbh. My worst one was when I turned 30; that just sounded so old leaving my 20’s behind!

Mischance · 12/07/2023 08:50

Went to Venice for a week with my 3 DDs.

OddsOn · 12/07/2023 08:51

I had a party at home and then went out to a casino with women friends, I had been seriously ill and was still recovering. DH had his 50 two years later and we went on a 2 week Med cruise.

GOODCAT · 12/07/2023 08:52

Nothing it was lock down, but 50 is fab!

Doidontimmm · 12/07/2023 08:53

Went to Barcelona with DH and my 2 kids (older teens). It was lovely :) I feel no different at all.

RoseMartha · 12/07/2023 08:54

Not a lot it was in between lockdown one and two.

We booked a day out at some gardens with my family as there were so many restrictions in place. Certainly not what I would have chosen had there been more freedom of what we could do.

Gateappreciation · 12/07/2023 08:55

London sightseeing and a show with relative.

Catspyjamas17 · 12/07/2023 08:57

What you have planned sounds lovely, OP.

I've got a couple of years to go yet, but I don't know, maybe a big holiday. I really want to go to Japan. I did a party/barbecue for DH's 50th as he has a summer birthday, and it was 2021 so felt important to try and get friends & together - mostly outdoors, so pretty safely.

For my 40th I kind of celebrated all year and did different things, meals, trips away with friends also turning 40 and I was on holiday for my actual birthday so we had a nice family celebration then.

For my 30th - not much! I'd just had DD1 3 months earlier. DH and I managed to get away for the evening to a nice restaurant.

Eyesopenwideawake · 12/07/2023 08:58

Slap up breakfast, party, then whisked off to the UK the next day for dinner and overnight stay at the Waterside Inn. Was lovely except that my DP started vomiting about 5 minutes before dinner and I naturally caught the same bug about 12 hours later!!

Outnumberedbytwo · 12/07/2023 08:59

I climbed Snowdon with DH and we stayed in a very simple off-grid cottage in Snowdonia for a few nights. I live in a city but grew up in the countryside and it was bliss.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 12/07/2023 08:59

I had just been made redundant with a very nice payoff so flew business class to Australia, spent three weeks with the family and travelled back via Perth on the Indian Pacific train.

Planning a similar trip for my upcoming 70th.

Eyesopenwideawake · 12/07/2023 08:59

Oh and Happy Birthday for tomorrow 🍾

Bimblesalong · 12/07/2023 09:03

That sounds wonderful, happy birthday!

I had a fantasy 50 that was real! Long weekend in Paris, black tie champagne ballet gala, art galleries, lunch at the Ralph Lauren garden restaurant. Trip to Hermes to buy a scarf with birthday money and also a significant gift from dh. Absolute dream! Must plan ahead for my 60th.

Definitely back to earth after the wonderful weekend tho!

have a fantastic birthday.

KohlaParasaurus · 12/07/2023 09:09

On my 10th I got the belt at school for a now-forgotten act of childish badness, then I spent my 20th birthday doing a university exam, my 30th recovering from a forceps delivery, and my 40th manning a water station in the rain at a race I'd planned to run but got injured. Being left as the only GP working in the practice for the entire day of my 50th was a new low. I'm planning something better for my 60th, but dreading curve balls.

NeedWineNow · 12/07/2023 09:10

We went to our favourite place in Greece and I spent my 50th lazing by the pool, lunch, more lazing and then dinner and drinks with friends we had made out there over the years. It was idyllic.

By contrast my 60th last year was spent in the car driving back from Wales after a few days away at the wedding of old friends and then drinks and a curry with friends in our village. Again a lovely day 😁

Funkyslippers · 12/07/2023 09:13

KohlaParasaurus oh yes, go for it!

Bimblesalong sounds utterly amazing

Eyesopenwideawake at least it's one you won't forget in a hurry!

By the way I’ve never felt any different after significant birthdays. To me it’s just a number although I’m aware that others my feel differently.

Have a happy birthday OP and I hope you thoroughly enjoy everything that you’ve got planned!

Istbisreally · 12/07/2023 09:14

Spent my 50th in Ibiza dancing for a whole week, it was incredible! Bit of a raver in the 90's so this was perfect

Zarataralara · 12/07/2023 09:15

Happy birthday for tomorrow 🎂
50 is fine, I found turning 40 far worse. Your family sound fab, enjoy all your celebrations.

sashh · 12/07/2023 09:18

50th - lunch at a Michelin starred restaurant.
40th - Posh London hotel and a play
30th - Back of a Harley Davidson in Western Australia

Mary46 · 12/07/2023 09:19

Happy Birthday op. Im same age. We did few days in canaries was lovely after xmas especially when birthday in winter. Year is long enough!

847arc · 12/07/2023 09:24

I’m off to a stadium concert with dh, assuming I can actually get tickets when they’re released.

SilkTrees · 12/07/2023 09:25

I spent it hosting after ten 10/11 year olds, high on soft drinks -- DS and his friends. I'm not particularly birthdayish, and I loathe feeling I 'should' be celebrating if I'm not in the humour, and I wasn't.

I find the 'significant birthdays' thing a bit silly, anyway, though -- I'm always a bit taken aback by the number of posts on here that seem to have a very programmatic view of what you 'should' be doing/wearing/earning at any stage in your life. I seem to have missed that memo, so ageing doesn't particularly bother me.
