What did you do for your 50th?

Hard to believe I'm typing these words but I turn 50 tomorrow. Not sure how it happened lol as I still feel about 18!

Anyway tomorrow DD1 and I are going to David Lloyd for a class then a spa & a chill out for a couple of hours. After that DD1 is cooking for us all courtesy of Gousto! And she has some cocktails lined up too. On Saturday OH & DD1 are taking me away for the weekend to a surprise destination (not sure how I feel about that but I'm sure it will be fun!). DD2 is going to her friend's as apparently she's not interested in joining in!

I've also had a few beauty treatments done over the past few weeks as I've never spent much money on that sort of thing before.

I just have a bit of a knot in my stomach as to me 50 sounds so much older than 49 though it's been a nice surprise when people tell me I don't look my age.

What did you all do for your 50th and did you feel any different after turning 50?

@SilkTrees
I’m usually the same, but it’s a great excuse to buy these particular tickets!

Numbersarefun · 12/07/2023 09:28

We hired a cottage for the week and my children came, brothers and their families and my Dad. It was fabulous.

Greensleevevssnotnose · 12/07/2023 09:29

Went to Singapore for two weeks best time ever. Happy birthday

marcopront · 12/07/2023 09:31

Sports day at school. I'd just announced I was leaving at the end of the year and so the students made sure they won it for me

Take away for dinner

Early night as exhausted after sports day.

BarrelOfOtters · 12/07/2023 09:34

I'd always been away with friends or DH for 0 birthdays and thought I would be for this. Most likely Japan. But life got in the way, husband spectacularly and very publicly leaving his job and having a nervous breakdown, a serious family illness....some other crap.

DH got his shit together and organised a party - it was lovely. I'd never had a party before for me since I was a kid.

That was 5 years ago...we are off to Japan this year.

BarrelOfOtters · 12/07/2023 09:35

And yes, 50 was easier than 40 and much easier than 30. I feel much more comfortable with myself and where I am.

Ted27 · 12/07/2023 09:36

on the actual day, not a lot, we probably went for a meal.

At Easter I took my 10 year old son on an overland trip across Morocco. We went over the Atlas mountains on the local bus, joined an organised family trip and went off into the desert, stayed in lots of small hotels, and went on a camel trek with one night camping in the desert in Bedouin tents.

MissAmbrosia · 12/07/2023 09:49

I took my friends to Barcelona for the weekend and then the next week we had a BBQ at home and DH took me out for dinner. I really dragged out the celebrations 😁

Anaemiafog · 12/07/2023 10:01

Lots of lovely thoughtful gifts, a weekend away and what I thought was a family meal turned out to be a surprise party.

chooseanother · 12/07/2023 10:06

I hosted a party at home, got outside caterers in. We had a fabulous night

Floofydawg · 12/07/2023 10:07

Went to Barbados for two weeks, was awesome. Don't really care about being 50+ tbh - the older I get, the less I give a shit.

Hope you have a lovely day.

EBearhug · 12/07/2023 10:22

Went to Paris to the Louvre and the Musée d'Orsay and things I wanted to do.

Also started a 16 day period, which flooded the hotel bed, which was less great...

FlibbedyFlobbedyFloo · 12/07/2023 10:26

Not done it yet, but we're doing my bucket-list trip to the Galapagos

TedLasto · 12/07/2023 10:30

Went to Iceland with husband and kids, travelled around, saw the northern lights. Was amazing.

Qilin · 12/07/2023 10:50

Dh, dd (20y at the time) and I went away for a few days.
We went to London for a couple of nights, saw a show, went for a Michelin star Indian meal, went for cocktails at the Ritz and a bit of sightseeing. We then flew to Frankfurt for a couple of days to go and see a concert of an artist I like. Dd arranged a lot of it in dh's behalf. I also got, gifts from dh and dd.

It's dh's 50th in a couple of weeks. We are going to Belfast for a couple of nights. Dd is currently away for the summer, so it's just me and dh. So far we've booked a nice restaurant for afternoon tea, and have dinner as part of our hotel package if we chose to eat there. I have got his some gifts too and dd will send some over. He hasn't really given any ideas of what he wanted to do which wasn't very helpful!

Qilin · 12/07/2023 10:51

And no, definitely haven't felt any different since I went from 49y to 50y.

GardeningIdiot · 12/07/2023 10:56

Absolutely nothing.

I was staying at my mum's (for an unrelated reason), she didn't mention it.

Whoopsmahoot · 12/07/2023 11:00

Went to Venice with my husband for 4 nights. Was one of our best trips ever.

petalpower · 12/07/2023 12:21

DH and I were 50 a couple of months apart. We went on a family holiday with our teenage children to Mauritius and had a joint party when we got back. I felt a bit rubbish but had just been diagnosed with a fairly big health issue and wasn’t on the right balance of meds. Apart from
that being 50 didn’t bother me at all.

Blueberrycreampie · 12/07/2023 12:28

My OH took me to Rome for a few days, but my birthday is in February so not sure I'd want to go in July tbh. It's just a number at the end of the day but it sounds as if you have a lovely time to look forward to!

Catsmere · 12/07/2023 12:32

Dunno, it's too long ago to remember! 😄 Probably nothing, I haven't done birthdays since my 30s when I had a circle of friends.

Have a lovely 50th, OP.

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 12/07/2023 12:54

50 was easier than 60.

I went to a spa resort for 50.
For recent 60th we went to Paris & I did a perfume workshop.

Lindy2 · 12/07/2023 12:57

My actual 50th was in a full lockdown. The London tier 4 just before Christmas so all my lovely plans cancelled ☹️. I spent the day with my DH and 2 children and I had a lovely seafood platter to eat and drank champagne. It was OK actually but not what was originally planned.

After Covid we went and did a luxury overnight stay at a zoo. It ended up being a joint 50th with DH because it was his birthday by then too. The zoo stay was a bit £££ but a very memorable experience.

The 50s are ok. I don't really feel 50 + most of the time (until the body aches set in). After loosing some friends before they made it to 50 it does put things in perspective.

Topseyt123 · 12/07/2023 13:09

Happy Birthday to you. Sounds like you'll have a great time. 😃

My 50th was a few years ago now (I turn 57 in August!) and was in the middle of a summer holiday in Portugal. We had a lovely day on the beach and then went out all together for a nice meal.

gabsdot45 · 12/07/2023 13:33

My daughter and I went to Salsberg and did the Sound of Music tour . It was on my bucket list. We loved it.
I was lucky too I turned 50 just before the first Covid lockdown. Another few weeks and it would have been cancelled
