Is this enough food - and if not what else?

DH significant birthday this weekend and we're having 20 adults and 10 kids - in the garden from 1 (weather permitting):

2 x savoury tarts (large)
bread
potato salad
3 x large salads
olives
crackers
Grapes
cheese board
Houmous
crisps type things
Brownies
birthday cake
pizza for kids

Doesn't look much now I've written it down!

Any other ideas would be great.

Cold meats

Comedycook · 16/05/2023 12:05

Doesn't sound enough to me. The salads, cheeses, crisps and dips sound ok but two savoury tarts doesn't sound like enough of a main type thing. Everything else is a bit picky. You need more substantial things...maybe a joint of cold roast meat? A load of chicken drumsticks? A whole salmon?

Seeline · 16/05/2023 12:07

It really depends how much of everything you're having but it doesn't sound quite enough. Two tarts and a bit of cheese for 20+? How old are the kids - will some want more of the adult food than just pizza? Or are they teens who can easily demolish a whole pizza in 5 minutes? Maybe add in:
Cold meat platter
Sausage rolls, mini sausages etc
Chicken drumsticks
Fruit

Not nearly enough. Pizza for the kids?

ApolloandDaphne · 16/05/2023 12:07

Sorry I see you have said pizza.

BarryShitpea · 16/05/2023 12:07

They all seem like sides (apart from the tarts) will 2 tarts and sides feed 20 adults? I suspect they may attack the pizza (how many?) you need something like a selection of meats or other protein or do a bbq with burgers, fish, sausages

toottootpipip · 16/05/2023 12:08

I always do a big batch of salted jacket potatoes, fill people up and always go down well slathered in butter 🤤

Nintendogal · 16/05/2023 12:09

It doesn't sound like enough unless you've bought large quantities of everything.

Are you vegetarian (just as I can't see any meat/ fish on there)?

I'd maybe do some jacket potatoes or sandwiches or a bowl of pasta which can be veggie. If you eat meat then think about some chicken drumsticks/ cold meats.

Good idea plus a big bowl of coleslaw!

Fifiellz · 16/05/2023 12:09

It's a bit like the sides to a nice bbq as it is.

Your missing the mains, 2 large tarts won't be enough. I would do another large main otherwise all you've got is a picky table and nothing to really pull a plate together.

Mayrain · 16/05/2023 12:09

Thank you - I think because I'm making it all, seems like alot ;)

DH is veggie so no meat on menu

Maybe Pulled pork and baps
New potatoes

Adults will eat the pizza too so I world get plenty.

I'd just do a massive bowl of something like cheese and tomato/ veggie pesto pasta and some garlic bread. Easy to make and substantial.

Mayrain · 16/05/2023 12:11

DS is also making some savoury scones (forgot about those) which are good.. but more mains sound like needed.

RuthW · 16/05/2023 12:13

No that's not enough

Treasureboxkey · 16/05/2023 12:13

Ah ok. No meat.
Jacket potatoes and fillings?
Flatbreads and falafel to go with the salads?

matthancockscareer · 16/05/2023 12:14

You don't need 3 bowls of salad nobody eats salad at parties, you need Carbs! Sausage rolls/Veggie rolls, baked potatoes, pasta salads, falafels especially if you've told people that you're feeding them, they will arrive hungry!!

PinkFootstool · 16/05/2023 12:15

Make a big pot of veggie chilli plus tray or two of roast potatoes or a big pot of rice. Cheese scones go well with chilli. Put out grated cheese, guacamole and sour cream etc.

Put some cold meats out for the non veggies maybe?

Minikievs · 16/05/2023 12:15

The problem with buffet type food is that because people take it in dribs and drabs, they can end up eating LOADS. Or maybe that's just me.
I'd do that amount of food for 5 kids and 5 adults, let alone 10 kids and 20 adults!
There's no actual....FOOD (except pizza) just a few sides 🤔

Minikievs · 16/05/2023 12:15

PP suggestions of veg chilli/jacket spuds are good ideas

AlloftheTime · 16/05/2023 12:16

Hard boiled eggs
linda McCartney sauages

Marcipex · 16/05/2023 12:25

the adults will eat the pizza.
so, no, nothing like enough
I second the large number of jacket potatoes. More than one each, because some people will eat two and kids will drop stuff.

Biscuitea · 16/05/2023 12:26

Is all the cheese vegetarian?

it doesn’t sound like nearly enough, why can’t the adults have pizzas?

2 veggie tarts and salad is nowhere near enough for 20 adults. That sounds enough for 4 adults, not 20. How many pizzas are you cooking for the 10 children? Maybe add some sausage rolls? I’m a vegetarian too, but I’d still prepare meat items like salmon, chicken skewers, chicken drumsticks, sausages, burgers etc. The meat can be on one side of the table away from the salad and veggie tarts.
