Mushroom house light from the 80s...

When I was a child, I had a light in my bedroom, which was basically a large ceramic mushroom house. I think it was meant to be a fairy house (who else would live in a mushroom?). It was a rustic kind of pottery and had a large lid (the top of the mushroom) which lifted off for bulb replacement.

My mum and dad kept a lot of nostalgic bits and pieces from when I was a child for me, and now that I have my own house, with loft space, they've given me all the things to store for myself. I expected the mushroom light to be amongst these belongings, but sadly it appears to have been thrown away.

Now I have become mildly fixated on trying to find replacement, but so far all of my googling has fallen short. I can't even find a picture of one that looks similar.

Any suggestions or where I could look, or specific websites that sell tat from the 80s/early 90s I could try?

I know I am going to drive myself bonkers!

This has made my day - I used to have a lamp shaped like a tree trunk with a hollow in it, with a little family of rabbits living in it in a little cottage set up. I’d love to find one like it!

White Rabbit England also used to do a bunny cottage ceramic lamp and though it sold out, some occasionally come up on eBay.

I spent ages and ages looking for versions of these ceramic lamps way back around 2014 when DD was a baby. (Huge nostalgia for one that a family friend had when I was a child!) DD was always a bit “meh” about the lamp (though I LOVE it) — until very recently when she started getting into “cottagecore”; and now she also loves it because toadstools are all the rage at the moment apparently 🤣

Is it a shelf pottery one? We still have the one I had as a child (plus two other self lamps) it’s a bigger to find the bulbs for them though…

Is it a shelf pottery one? I had the snail when I was younger and still have it in my bedroom now. I vaguely remember my Grandmother had a mushroom one.

Oh my gosh. I wasn't expecting so many replies to such a random thread.

None of the pictures posted are like the one I had (although I haven't had time to click on all the links posted yet, but I will do when the kids are in bed!). A lot of them are much taller, whereas I remember it being short and squat and probably around the size of a dinner plate in diameter (looking down at the lid/roof).

I will need to see if my mum and dad have any photos with it in when I next go to visit them, and if I do find a picture (unlikely but will be fun looking) I will definitely scan it in and post it here.

Glad to have triggered a good dose of nostalgia if nothing else!!

I had one that was a little stable with a pony in it.

Very cute but shit as an actual light because the windows were tiny & the pony's head obscured most of the door...

I'm invested now.

After a big of digging it seems Derek Fowler did a lot of mushroom type pottery lamps and apparently piggery pottery!

Have a google of them and let us know when you get a chance.

I used to have one just like this as well! I have it away when I progressed to a Groovy Chick / Bang on the Door themed bedroom Grin
