One of my ' love life ' things is as above , it makes me feel all is good in the world . Another is listening to heavy rain against the windows knowing we are all safe & cosy at home.
What's yours ?

Bird song at dawn, squirrels frolicking in the garden, tulips in bloom, smell of freshly cut grass

Baldieheid · 09/05/2023 22:34

Hearing foghorns in the estuary safe from my cosy bed.

Dawn chorus at 4am.

Waking up and opening the bedroom curtains on a still morning to find the haar has crept in.

The sound of curlews.

Youthinkyoureuniqueyourejustastatistic · 09/05/2023 22:35

I agree with you OP. Owl, rain on the roof, a good thunderstorm on a warm night.
Heard the first cuckoo today. Made me smile.

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 09/05/2023 22:36

I like to hear the owls calling too. Rain was falling really hard on the conservatory today and I was safe inside, which was great. I like hearing the wood pigeons too - it reminds me of my childhood, because our house backed onto woods. Their calls sound so gentle.

LeMoo · 09/05/2023 22:38

I have a tawny owl who hoots at night near me :)

And today I listened to the rain and the thunder and then went for an evening walk breathing in the scent of the earth and Hawthorn blossom. Heaven :)

I love the sound of wind chimes. I don't own any but my neighbours do. Love hearing them jingling away on a windy night.

The smell of honeysuckle/ sweet william/ night scented stock on a summers evening. If you've never smelt night scented stock, get yourself a packet of seeds and grow a little pot of it. The smell is heaven.

Butteredtoast55 · 09/05/2023 22:46

Haar is the sea fog or sea fret that comes rolling in from the ocean. Eerily beautiful.

Yate12 · 09/05/2023 22:47

Hearing trains trundling in the distance, especially at night. I live near a major station and never get tired of hearing trains. My childhood home backed onto a station and railway line, which is perhaps why I find it comforting.

The sound of church bells - a church in my town has mid week ringing practice and if the wind direction is right then they can be clearly heard.

When I lived on the coast near a major port I loved hearing foghorns at night.

Also love hearing the dawn chorus and rain.

Completely agree with above post on honeysuckle/sweet william/night scented stock on a warm summer's evening.

DorritLittle · 09/05/2023 22:48

I love an owl sound. Also cuckoos, foxes, the rain and the ships’ fog horns in the distance.

DorritLittle · 09/05/2023 22:48

And how noisy the birds can be!

LawksaMercyMissus · 09/05/2023 22:50

Crickets....a sign that summer is nearly here

dudsville · 09/05/2023 22:50

All of the above but I've also just been downstairs and i love the quiet and clean sense of my home and neighbourhood at night when every house is cosily quiet.

WhatWouldHopperDo · 09/05/2023 22:52

I love the rain on the roof but even more so, the rain on my caravan roof.

Baldieheid · 09/05/2023 22:53

ShirleyPhallus · 09/05/2023 22:39

What is haar please?

My sil calls it sea fret. Fog, basically, but over water.

BeckyWithTheGoodHair010101 · 09/05/2023 22:53

Oh yes I love hearing our resident barn owl. I know it's a barn owl as I googled the type of call!
Also love the quiet before everyone in the house wakes up, best enjoyed with a hot coffee. Bliss.

Coxspurplepippin · 09/05/2023 22:58

Heard first Cuckoo last week. I know they're arseholes but the call is so elegiac.

A cup of tea in the garden at 6.30am on a summer morning, scent of roses, admiring the veg patch

Picking blackberries.

Curlews and lapwings on our local moorland.

SquashPenguin · 09/05/2023 23:03

We have a tawny owl as well, I love listening to him 🥰

saltrock123 · 09/05/2023 23:05

Love laying in bed listening to the fog horns. And heavy rain when you are all tucked up.
Mr. Blackbird has been singing his evensong, just magical.
Thunder, love it.
The distant jangling of buoys on boats when it is windy.
Church bells ringing. In my home town there would be bell ringing practice every week I miss that.
Owls calling.
Just the wind blowing at night, so relaxing.
My cat purring away.

Netaporter · 09/05/2023 23:25

I love the fact that Owl’s don’t actually call ‘twit-ta-woo’ one calls ‘twit’ then another replies with the ‘ta-woo’ 🥰

Also heard my first cuckoo last week. Makes me sad some poor tiny mummy bird has been tricked into raising a giant interloper 😢

AppleBlossomTimeNow · 09/05/2023 23:49

Lovely thread. Late spring and early summer is magical.

OriginalFloorboards · 09/05/2023 23:50

Going out to check on my horses late at night and listening to them munch hay, with the owl in the background.

I also love the sound of the sea but that’s not as close.

If I could get the horses munching hay by the sea with an owl on their backs that would be the business!

Oh and I love the smell of matches when blown out, but not near the hay!

Also, simply laying in bed listening to late night Smooth Chill radio. So relaxing.

I'm sleeping on a sofa bed in my dining room currently as ds and gf have descended. But I'm so lucky to have a beautiful tree to look at out the window, she's just getting leaves , she is really helping my stress and insomnia, I love her ❤️

youveturnedupwelldone · 09/05/2023 23:59

I love hearing the rain on the roof. Also we live near the railway so I love hearing the trains come past - it's a slow bit of track so they come past sedately!

I adore the birdsong in the morning. That's probably my favourite.

I hate hearing the fighting/mating foxes tho - they always make me jump out of my skin!
