One of my ' love life ' things is as above , it makes me feel all is good in the world . Another is listening to heavy rain against the windows knowing we are all safe & cosy at home.
What's yours ?

Our garden is bordered on two sides by fields that are home to dairy cows. Today was their turnout day after the winter months inside. The absolute joy of a herd of cows being let outside for the first time after the winter is a sight to behold - full speed galloping all round the fields for about 30 mins. They're now calmly chomping the grass in the sunshine 😍

Cow bells at different distances around a Swiss meadow.

But one sound that is not relaxing, the sound of the tropical rainforest at 2am. It’s awesome but deafening.

Getting into a clean bed
The smell of rain on hot concrete
Thunderstorms

I agree with so many of these (sadly I don't live near the sea.) Mine are:

Hearing the rain lash against the windows as I'm reading my book.

A cup of tea in bed on a lazy morning.

Hearing DDs laughing together. DD2 has a proper belly laugh and it warms my heart.

The smell of the garden after it has rained.

Standing on the lawn with bare feet.

Watching the birds wash in the bird bath.

A candle quietly crackling.

A soft, warm blanket on top of the duvet on my bed in the winter.

Being in the bath with only a candle for light listening to Classic FM.

Stirring something that's bubbling on the stove with a glass of wine in hand, listening to the radio.

A Friday night G&T with DH, music playing after DDs have gone to bed.

Dancing in the kitchen.

Listening to Waiting For Cousteau.

Jean Michel Jarre wrote it in an hour while waiting for Jacques Cousteau. You can feel the ocean.

Listening to blackbirds singing their hearts out - so melodious.
Watching 'my' bat fluttering round at dusk
The smell of earth after rain on a warm day.
Watching hedgehogs visiting the garden to feed.
Fields of ripe wheat in the sun
The scent of honeysuckle
Getting into a newly made bed with high threadcount cotton sheets on it

We have a repeat of last night , so I've just looked up a few owl noises online and it's a male tawny owl trying to get a female to hoot back . Bless him.

I'm lucky enough to live in a former water mill, the wheel no longer turns but the mill leat rushes over the top and into the stream running through the garden. On summer nights with the window open, it's a lovely sound.

Church bells, the dawn chorus - all very evocative. We have no passing traffic, live half a mile from the nearest house, thinking about it - the soundscape could be centuries old. No light pollution either - fantastic for star gazing.

What a gorgeous thread. I think there should be a 'soothing' section of Classics for threads like this Grin

flapjackfairy · 14/05/2023 19:42

watching big snowflakes falling straight down to the ground on a still night. And watching the light change as the blanket of snow settles on the ground.

RuthTopp · 14/05/2023 20:21

Well we've been serenaded every night since posting this thread. However it's not all owls and fluffy clouds here , was woken by the cat at 5.30 am this morning who left her bedroom ( yes she has taken over the spare ) to especially come into ours to chuck up a hairball ! 😼

The sound of an ice cream van in the distance.

betaglucans · 14/05/2023 22:00

wood pigeons and distant lawnmowers in summer I like. I think lawnmowers because they remind me it's summer!

WestOfWestminster · 14/05/2023 22:04

Love this thread.

The sound of wind gently blowing in the trees on a sunny summers afternoon

Smell of fresh cut grass

The call of a wood pigeon

Rain on the roof after days of hot weather

Distant traffic

Woodsmoke smell

Steakandquinoa · 14/05/2023 22:07

Skylarks singing, high above the South Downs on a hit Sumer day.

JamSandle · 14/05/2023 22:12

Also rain and bird song.

Cracking fireplace.

Sound of the sea.

Seeing lights on in other people's homes.

dudsville · 14/05/2023 22:55

I'm struggling to sleep but what I'm finding comforting tonight is the sound of the fog horn from the light house down the road. A thick fog rolled in just at dusk and blanketed my quiet street.
