Where would you go in Europe for two months of healing time ?

I’ve had the most horrific year with ex. Sadly, I’ll have to leave my home in a few weeks. I was hoping to buy a new place, but nothing seems to be working out for me. So much has happened and feel so overwhelmed and like I can’t cope anymore. Thinking of sticking my stuff in storage and leaving the UK to go somewhere peaceful for a couple of months to process everything.

Where would you go?

Switzerland if you have enough money. I've never been but the scenery looks stunning, I think it would be relaxing there.

Phineyj · 04/05/2023 20:49

Maybe Madeira? I spent a week there this summer and it was lovely. Great climate.

Fluffycloudsblusky · 04/05/2023 20:50

The mountains. Yes to Switzerland if you can afford it. Austria, Italy can be just as beautiful but cheaper in the mountains

Tortiemiaw · 04/05/2023 20:51

Eastern algarve. One of the quieter fishing villages. Definitely a place to reflect and refresh!

Magnoliainbloom · 04/05/2023 20:51

Googling rentals in Portugal.
Switzerland is beautiful but probably expensive.

Good suggestions - I need to think about mountains vs sea…

Slovenia? (as per Switzerland but so much cheaper!)
Or a Greek island.

LawksaMercyMissus · 04/05/2023 20:54

I got a camper and drove around Europe for five months in the same circumstances. It changed my life. Unfortunately it's just getting to the expensive time of year for accommodation.

aibutohavethisusername · 04/05/2023 20:55

Slovenia

Can I be nosy and ask how it changed you?

Portugal 100%
Go rural.
You'll get sun, peace, cheap but delicious food in the local restaurants. Plus plenty of beaches.

Magnoliainbloom · 04/05/2023 20:56

Never thought of Slovenia - will look it up.

Portugal has been on my mind. I’ve been a city girl all my life, and so it would be nice to have access to Lisbon or Porto. Plus I could fly to the Azores, which I adore.

Porto is very lovely.

BarbaraofSeville · 04/05/2023 21:02

Could you go to all those places, or are you wanting to settle and chill in one place?

I think I'd probably split the time between mainland Portugal, Madeira and the Azores if it was possible, but obviously would need connecting flights.

Unexpecteddrivinginstructor · 04/05/2023 21:03

Pyrenees - mixture of mountains, sea, culture, spas and spiritual places. Plus the option to stay in a few different countries.

Mysticguru · 04/05/2023 21:04

Ikeria

Inthebathagain · 04/05/2023 21:04

I'd go to Poland and tour. It's beautiful. The locals are so friendly and your money goes a very long way.

PinkFootstool · 04/05/2023 21:05

Do you have a budget in mind? Maybe book a fortnight in one location and consider moving on from there? So you're not tied in to two months somewhere which ends up not being as planned or become boring / unsuitable / not restful.

Sundaefraise · 04/05/2023 21:05

If you haven’t already, I would recommend reading Miss Garnetts Angel by Sally Vickers and Miss Bensons Beetle by Rachel Joyce for stories of women traveling abroad at low points to find themselves and have new experiences. I think I would probably rent somewhere in France, either in the Loire, Provence or further south.

Widmerpool · 04/05/2023 21:06

Taormina

Mrssalvatore123 · 04/05/2023 21:07

Taormina is wonderful.

post divorce I went to Sorrento, it felt good for the soul

YukoandHiro · 04/05/2023 21:08

Croatia. Lots to do. You can find either peace or company, as suits you, particularly on the islands.

I'm sorry you've had such a rough year. My mum always taught me that the darkest hour is just before dawn, and many times in my life so far that's proved true.

Refrosty · 04/05/2023 21:10

I'd go to Sweden or Norway. It's quiet. Nature everywhere.

Not too cheap but wouldn't be as expensive as other places. I'd hire a bike for those two months and place myself somewhere I could choose a direction and cycle all day.
