It's his birthday today and I was wondering how many MNers (especially those with associated names!) would show up and wish the great man best wishes.

Gone, but not forgotten.

GNU Terry Pratchett.

GNU Sir Terry. Gone, but never forgotten.

I can't be having with this.

(I absolutely can, it's always the first line that appears in my head, and I hold it and the great Mr P dear. Raising a glass)

DogDaysNeverEnd · 28/04/2023 20:40

Will forever be my favourite author, so smart and readable. I've read his books since being a nipper and every time I revisit I realise just how bloody clever they are, as I find more and more of what would now be called an easter egg. He was basically the easter bunny of authors.

I still feel bereft whenever I remember that Terry Pratchett has gone. Imagine the books he might have written 😢, but what a legacy he left for everyone to enjoy.

Imisscoffee2021 · 28/04/2023 20:46

Amazing author, countless times laughing at footnotes, City Watch books are my fave, so much Vimesian wisdom!

M0rT · 28/04/2023 20:47

Been reading and rereading since I was 11, so funny and true. 👮
I cried when I his death was announced and I'm still not sure if it was sadness for him or me.
Happy Birthday Mr P.

TheInterceptor · 28/04/2023 20:49

QUIET IN HERE, ISN'T IT?

Toastandacupoftea · 28/04/2023 20:51

Legend of a man, his writing still pops into my head all the time- when I'm trying to understand things in real life there's often something similar in Discworld to help guide me. GNU Terry Pratchett.

Great writer, lovely man. They're repeating Night Watch on Radio 4 Xtra/ BBC Soubsa at the moment. Highly recommended.

TourmalineGiraffe · 28/04/2023 20:57

Oh love TP mind!
Just finished rereading every single discworld book, such brilliance.
Would love to erase it all from my memory for the pleasure of discovering it all over again.

CMOTDibbler · 28/04/2023 20:58

I had a sausageinnabun this morning in his honour. GNU

City Watch and The witches series are fabulous.

God, I miss knowing that there’ll be another book coming soon. I miss not knowing what’s next for those characters. I felt so empty after I finished his last book, I really did.

GNU Sir Pterry.

Cathpot · 28/04/2023 21:02

Just reread all the Vimes stories in order- they are my comfort reads.
There is a paragraph- possibly in Feet of Clay- where sergeant colon falls off a drainpipe onto a sheep- which goes…. blaaart. Makes me actually snigger every time.
DD2 is reading them now and I’m jealous that they are new to her. I had his last book a whole year before I could face reading it as it was the last new book.

There is still is a book coming. I haven't read the last one so there is always one I can look forward to.

DH says I will know when I really need it.

DeadButDelicious · 28/04/2023 21:05

GNU Sir Terry! It's an honour to share a birthday with you!

TheOhGodOfHangovers · 28/04/2023 21:05

GNU Sir Terry

I’ve still not read The Shepherd’s Crown. It’s sitting on my bookshelf. I want to still have one more book to look forward to.
