Happy Terry Pratchett Day

It's his birthday today and I was wondering how many MNers (especially those with associated names!) would show up and wish the great man best wishes.

Gone, but not forgotten.

GNU Terry Pratchett.

GNU Pterry.

My lilac is blooming, I love it, and it makes me sad in equal measure.

I kept the Shepherd's Crown for a long time, but eventually read it. I cried and cried and cried.

No one is actually dead until the ripples they cause in the world die away.

🥂 a true legend

Darn, only just found you. Scrivens!

MxEWeatherwax · 29/04/2023 22:33

GNC, belated

SamanthaVimes · 29/04/2023 22:34

I’m a day late but happy birthday Pterry!
I’ve also been on the lookout for lilac blooming, I listen to the books regularly on audible and seem to find sobering new every time

He wouldn't mind.

Just makes the ripples last longer.

Only just seen this thread - I’m just re-reading all the Vimes books at the moment and up to ‘the fifth elephant’.

i sort-of met the great Sir Terry once - it’s a bit of a silly story. I was a teenager at the time, maybe about 15 or 16 sat on a train reading one of his paperbacks, and literally kept sniggering out loud. Someone sat on the seat opposite me and after a while I glanced up - to see that the person looked an awful lot like TP. I sort of stared open mouthed, glanced at the author photo on the back page, glanced up at the bloke again - yep fairly certain in was him! He starts laughing, I was so embarrassed I dived back into the book and a couple of stops later he got off the train again!! Such a wasted opportunity!! But I was at that awkward teenage phase where you basically communicate in grunts and sighs, so couldn’t actually string a sentence together….

I got to chat to him at his book signings twice. He asked “Have I signed for you before?” and I said “No, but you have for my friends and we all look alike” - this was in my Goth days in the 90s. He then talked about how vampires’ kids rebel by wearing twinsets and pearls and drinking wine. Made me laugh all the more when Carpe Jugulum came out, it was like I’d had a preview.

Oh, thanks to this thread, I've just realised that Terry Pratchett reads his books on Audible - I'm definitely going to try some out as a way to re-visit them.

That's hilarious! I bet that made his week.

Actually, maybe this isn't true.
