Which raincoat does your secondary age child have?

DS needs a new raincoat and will be going to secondary in August. I want to get him something he will be able to wear there (no uniform requirements, just teenage ones!) so I'm assuming bright colours are out and I'd be better off getting him a plain black one.

He will have a 25 minute walk or bus/bike variation so he will need something when it's raining.

North Face is the look at DD's school. I saw the price and got one that just looked like NF, and she was perfectly happy. Black seems to be the norm.

Mine had a pack-a-mac they always had in their rucksack and then a better, warmer coat for winter.

Plain black is a good call, (but not great if cycling in winter after a club).

Mine had unworn raincoats bought for secondary . Not many kids seem to wear a coat . Mine have puffas - they are showerproof but combined with a blazer they seem happy with that .. I’d be wary at spending much as teenage boys are so particular .

yes, this does worry me. MIL suggested I put on some reflective patches 🤣

My 13y/o DS has a plain black one from Mountain Warehouse, but he literally NEVER uses it. He walks a good 30mins each way in all weathers. It's all I can do to persuade him to stuff it in his bag. He prefers to be cold and wet apparently... and and claims that his blazer is waterproof 😅

DS15 has a simple black North Face waterproof jacket. DS12 still loves last year's padded navy Gap coat which isn't very trendy but he says he doesn't care as it's so comfy!

NB the last North Face one he had got stolen so if it happens again we're going to get a simple plain black one just for school.

Then from Yr 9 onwards has refused any coat other than a rainproof pac a Mac

The advantage of a pac a mac is they aren' too expensive so it doesn't matter when they aren't worn.

Whatever you get make sure it fits over a blazer plus growing room.

@TeenDivided he doesn't have a uniform so no blazer. He'd wear it over a T-shirt/hoodie in summer or also with a fleece in winter.

DD has a black pac a mac and a black mountain warehouse jacket and most of the time doesn’t bother and just takes her foldable umbrella. I would get something cheap and waterproof, it will either get lost or just unworn.

Get a mountain warehouse one. He may never wear it but its often compulsory for any camping/hiking with school/scouts/ d of e so will get used eventually!

Black one from Peter Storm. DD has to carry it around in school so it can't be too thick and heavy so her winter coat is in the cupboard.

She has to have a navy or black one which I am really annoyed about but teens are not into colours anyway.

DS has a navy 3in1 from Mountain Warehouse. He's worn the fleece twice and the waterproof comes out more for biking than school.

My ds has got a lightweight adidas black coat that's waterproof (think its a football training jacket) so wears that when its warm. In the winter he did have an adidas padded jacket but he said it wasn't warm enough so he now wears a plain black waterproof padded coat from M&S. He is a rare breed of teenager that feels the cold and goes for comfort over fashion! 😂

Get a North Face second hand one form eBay in a size Mens Small like this one. You can then sell it again afterwards and get the next size up etc.
