Which raincoat does your secondary age child have?

DS needs a new raincoat and will be going to secondary in August. I want to get him something he will be able to wear there (no uniform requirements, just teenage ones!) so I'm assuming bright colours are out and I'd be better off getting him a plain black one.

He will have a 25 minute walk or bus/bike variation so he will need something when it's raining.

I would watch about buying one just now though op, the amount they grow from the last day of primary to the first of secondary is incredible.
A second hand north face is a good idea, at least then you've provided a jacket for him but it's his choice whether he wears it or not and you've not then spent a fortune on a jacket that doesn't get worn, which tends to be the norm here

I didn't even bother buying him one last time. He hasn't worn a coat in 8 years and the last two were passed on still with tags attached.

I kept offering to buy DS a Northface a few years ago but he flatly refused and was adamant he did not and would not wear one

DD very much asked for and wanted a Northface which she no longer wears as it's no longer been cool here for a couple of years.

I used to get mine the compressible down jackets from Uniclo. The advantage was they packed so small and just lived in the bottom of his school bag. This kept them clean and meant they were always in perfect condition when they were outgrown and I sold them unworn on EBay in the summer.

DD loves a coat. Her rain coats are bright yellow and lime green respectively. All her friends wear coats too (y11). And as I teach at her school and spend the first 3 minutes of every lesson telling students to take off their coats, I know that most of them wear them. Because of where I live, lots of them wear wax jackets and Barbour type jackets (rural East Anglia, they're all young farmers) or puffa jacket type things.
