Edf sent me a massive bill -I'm confused help

I live in a 1 bed flat
I haven't been using much gas /electric
I've been getting the £67 a month for the 6 months
I get monthly bills -the bills with the £67 have been under £35
Last months was £28
Today I receive a 209 day bill for £309
I don't understand since I've paid every bill monthly
On the bill the £67 are not showing
Edf online chat say the £67 have been deducted
My argument was I've been billed monthly
Last month was £28
Why is it now giving me a 209 day bill

Can anyone help ?
I'm getting no help from edf

Are you paying a set amount per month by direct debit? If so you were probably underpaying, and this is the amount you owe them for the last 6 months. Can you log into your account online and see your usage?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 27/04/2023 19:26

How often are you submitting meter reads?

Knackeredandalsotired · 27/04/2023 19:26

I’m billed separately for gas and electric. I get regular bills for the gas but they don’t seem to care about elec unless and until I send in a reading - could it be something like that? (Although I’m with Eon)

has the £67 been credited to your energy account or to your bank?

im with (the bastarding) British Gas and they send the money to my bank

HairyFeline · 27/04/2023 19:27

Double check everything: the dates on the bill, and your monthly payments to them, and draw up a chart listing in date order what you were charged and then what you paid.
I found the only way to resolve things was email them. EDF are, in my experience, the worst for customer service. The more data you have to show them the better.

Mushroomofficeglass · 27/04/2023 19:28

I pay dd monthly with edf but they only calculate a bill twice a year. Could it be your 6 monthly bill?
Also the way edf did the £67 was odd. They put it onto the bill, took it off the bill (because they paid it into the bank account) it just looked confusing. Have you tried contacting them through their app? It's been about 48hours to reply each time I've asked something but found I got an answer.

I pay monthly with debit card
All my bills are estimated as I can't access my gas cupboard
I don't understand the bill says (September -March ) £280 gas (209 days )
Yet I've had monthly bills since September

Is that bill estimated or actual, does the meter reading have a or e after it? Are the other monthly bills definitely gas or are they electric?

dementedpixie · 27/04/2023 19:36

What can't you access the gas cupboard?
The £67 was credited to your electricity account and then debited again and sent to your bank account.
They can never send you an accurate bill if you don't give them meter readings

dementedpixie · 27/04/2023 19:38

Are you sure you haven't just been paying the electricity monthly and you are now being charged for gas on a 6 monthly basis, which is edfs usual billing period

aaronlolp · 27/04/2023 19:40

My gas and electric all get billed together
The bills were joint bills
The £67 credits were showing on my monthly bills
That's where my bills were so small

No every monthly bill was both gas/electric

EDF are a dreadful company. I'm in a dispute involving Ombudsman atm. They estimated bills for over a year sending me a demand for over £950. I told them I'd not used that amount of gas and sent them reading over 2000 units less but they would not believe me. I took a photo of the metre and a little video of it being read. Still getting demands threatening court action. It was a PAYG metre so no need to estimate. It was not working properly as it was not sending automatic reading through to the company. Instead of telling me or asking for a reading they kept doing estimates based on the previous people living in property. I bet they have done an estimated bill for you too.

Hugasauras · 27/04/2023 19:44

You need to sort out access to your meter. Your bills could be wildly inaccurate if they aren't using actual readings ever.

Without seeing the bill it's hard to say what's happened.

dementedpixie · 27/04/2023 19:44

Does it give estimates for both gas and electricity? Do you give readings at all or is it always estimates?

your bills sound incredibly low and would barely cover the standing charge

Hugasauras · 27/04/2023 19:46

Can you post the £280 bill?

dementedpixie · 27/04/2023 19:47

You will never know if it's accurate until you read the meters. I'd make that your priority tbh

Ah. It looks like they've managed to get a read from your gas meter and you'd underpaid so it's a catch-up bill. The final reading is 'our read', which means from one of their meter readers. If it's outside then they can just access it without notifying you.

Yes it looks like they cancelled your previous gas bill, refunded the credit and then rebilled based on the accurate meter read. You need to send electricity readings or you could face a similar thing happening there.

Your electricity is still estimated, your gas looks like it's from an actual read and you hadn't been paying enough to cover usage. Can you read your electricity meter?

frizzyandfrazzled · 27/04/2023 19:56

You need to do a meter reading now for both gas and electric. The whole bill is based on estimates. Once you know what you owe then I'd worry about the £67 and how they credited them to you. Get someone, anyone to check the gas meter cupboard.

frizzyandfrazzled · 27/04/2023 19:58

If they have replaced an estimated bill with an actual it could well be higher. Speak to them about a repayment plan. It's so important to give meter readings - it's like asking Asda to guess the price of your shopping and you giving them £50 a week hoping it's right.
