What small things have made you smile today?

I’ve had a shit week, actually a shit year, but I’m trying to really practise a bit of self car and be grateful for the small things so I’ll start.

Watching my young cat explore the garden this afternoon, getting scared by a fly/the grass/a noise and running back inside every two minutes before trying to be brave and sneaking back out.

Having a chat on the sofa with my teenage son about nothing much, he even let me rest my head on his shoulder while we talked.

A roast dinner cooked by someone else.

A lovely hot bath and fresh bedding waiting to go on.

A baby in a pushchair

Little things

I saw many lovely tulips in my garden (I swear we didn’t have them last year?!) so I cut a bunch and stuck them in a vase inside.

Also had a lovely coffee at Gail’s

LiliLil · 23/04/2023 20:07

Oh I love tulips!

Babies in pushchairs always make me smile too, as do dogs.

A new cooker...I'm nearly 40 and it is my first brand new cooker and I love it. Was delivered this morning and I have already made a batch of cupcakes and 16 proper sausage rolls as well as lunch and dinner.

DS2 has ASD and doesn't always 'get' humour. DS1, who happens to be ginger, was just starting to take the piss about DS2's newly grown monobrow. DS2 didn't miss a beat and quickly quipped "at least I have eyebrows" which rendered DS1 speechless.

It's not flowers or puppies or fresh sheets but for a moment it felt normal.

Watching three birds in the garden 😊They are always together and often clean each other on the fence and share food when I put some in the garden.

That’s lovely, and made me smile!

My dog running in the park with his ball and tripped over a bunch of weeds and did a full forward roll, whilst still holding his ball. It looked like something from a cartoon. He's totally fine and continued to run all walk!

Sometherusername · 23/04/2023 20:31

Not today, but yesterday I found a box of unopened after eights in the back of the cupboard 👍

Multipleexclamationmarks · 23/04/2023 20:34

Went to a scouts event for St George's day, it was chucking it down, I was feeling a bit miffed till I looked at my teenagers merrily joining in with 'heads shoulders, knees and toes'

PollyAmour · 23/04/2023 20:37

My dog, yapping wildly at the birds feeding off the new heart shaped fat ball container I have hanging off a tree. Doggie was fiercely protecting us from the evil sparrows, but they didn't give a shit and carried on eating.

Oh and planting my veranda hanging baskets and tubs with pansies, geraniums, trailing fuchsia and variegated ivy, in between the rain storms.

thefinaltwist · 23/04/2023 20:43

Watching a starling enjoy a very enthusiastic bath in my bird bath in the garden. I had to go top it up after it was done

purplecorkheart · 23/04/2023 20:43

Had a coffee with a friend today. The toddler at the next table spent his whole time looking over at us and grinning or else giving us a deep belly laugh.

Playmobilzoo · 23/04/2023 20:45

My 3 year old and 1 year old sitting in the sandpit playing together nicely. Mostly he snatches toys off her but instead he showed her how to make a sandcastle and my heart melted

Neverknowinglysensible · 23/04/2023 20:46

Planting up my new vegetable bed using the square foot method. It looks very neat and tidy and I know just how much the local rabbits, mice and Houdini sheep are going to enjoy it!

DisforDarkChocolate · 23/04/2023 20:48

Unexpected cherry icecream on a walk.
Newborn lambs being so bouncy and friendly.
My son confirming his University choice at a place I think he'll love.

PickleOfAConundrum · 23/04/2023 20:51

Seeing my beautiful grandson and spending time with him!
My grandson smiling at me!
I got an email from a long lost mate I'm now in contact with again!
Making a woman laugh in the shop!
My parcel arriving from Amazon I've been waiting on!

Its the little things in life that make life that little more special ❤️

DS made me a cup of tea! He is 11 and is asd and has never done it before!

FettleOfKish · 23/04/2023 20:54

Watching the Marathon, the amazing finish of the Women's elite race, and all the other thousands of faces running for a reason.

Lunch with a friend. We've had some rough times in our friendship over the past year but have come out the other it side stronger and I treasure her, and the fact that our respective partners get on really well too.

hiyahen · 23/04/2023 20:55

Watching my 6 year old DS and his friend enjoying each others company in the cinema. They asked if I could sit in the row behind them so they could pretend they were there without their parents! Was so sweet watching them together.

Also I planted up window boxes today. So I smiled when I came back from the cinema and saw them.

LiliLil · 23/04/2023 20:55

These are all so lovely, it really does make a difference to me if I take a minute to try and find the nice things that have happened in my day.

Im smiling at all your posts, you’ve all added to my list of “nice things that have happened today”!

My daughter loves to make me a cup of coffee, but she’s too young to use the kettle so it’s made with warm water from the tap. Lovely….

DS started teaching DD to play chess yesterday. It's been lovely to watch them bond over it, they've not fallen out once (usually they fight like cat & dog).

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 23/04/2023 21:02

My new plant. It's so so beautiful I can't take my eyes off it. I think it's called Elephants Ears? The leaves are green and dappled pink and look and feel like tissue paper. It's made me so ridiculously happy. I bought a new pot for it and found the perfect place for it so I can see it whenever I'm chilling on the couch Blush
