What small things have made you smile today?

I’ve had a shit week, actually a shit year, but I’m trying to really practise a bit of self car and be grateful for the small things so I’ll start.

Watching my young cat explore the garden this afternoon, getting scared by a fly/the grass/a noise and running back inside every two minutes before trying to be brave and sneaking back out.

Having a chat on the sofa with my teenage son about nothing much, he even let me rest my head on his shoulder while we talked.

A roast dinner cooked by someone else.

A lovely hot bath and fresh bedding waiting to go on.

I took a potato bag out of the shed in order to plant my potatoes. Had a chat to my neighbour, turned around to see my cat crawling out of it. He does so many dull, innocent things he makes me frequently smile.

On Sunday Brunch, there was a band who sponsored St Albans football club. One of the two presenters asked what their nickname was - The Saints. The same presenter then asked why did they get that nn. He looked properly embarrassed when they said why. Make me giggle.

An old friend from uni called around and gave me a half bottle of Eau d'Eden. I used to wear it back then but it was discontinued years ago. She was clearing stuff out and remembered that I loved it - I still do! The smell transports me back 25 years. Best gift I've been given in ages

What a lovely thread!

Seeing the blossom on the trees
Stroking a cute dog at the park
A text from young adult DS asking me how my day was going
A hug from a friend

Introvert anxious 14yo DD with asd leaving the house to have lunch with a friend, she doesn’t go to school, rarely leaves her room and it’s almost unheard of for her to go somewhere without me. She was in such a good mood when I collected her saying her throat was sore from all the talking 💜

My eldest helping his sister up the stairs after she hurt her foot. Normally they fight like cat and dog.
Walking the dogs and picking wild garlic during the evening golden hour. Such beautiful light.
Watching baby piglets emerge from their house for the first time.
Despite working for much of it, it’s been a lovely weekend.

Being in the sunny park earlier, watching a grandad trying to make his granddaughters kite fly despite there being no hint of a breeze. He was trying so hard and she was so pleased regardless Grin

From yesterday, but while having lunch with a friend, several people came into the pub with very cute little dogs - I love dogs and love that this regular lunch spot is dog friendly :)

After my friend left, I was sat finishing my drink, and a man and his little DD walked past holding hands, she was tiny, no more than 14 months if I had to guess. Such a sweet little girl, looking round at everyone and smiling as she toddled past :)

Not today, but yesterday I found a box of unopened after eights in the back of the cupboard 👍

This would make my day

Not much actually. No wonder I'm down.

The finish of the elite women's marathon, such a lovely and happy winner.

The excitement of two children I passed at 3 pm when the alert went off on their parents phones.

Finding two slices of chocolate cake in the freezer, I had forgotten about them. Thawed and eaten by DH and me.

A funny text from a colleague.

It's been quite a smiley day really. OP I hope next week is better for you.

Watching my dd (15) play her heart out on the rugby pitch this afternoon surrounded by strong, determined young girls playing with passion and pride.

My DS football team winning 2-0 today. Hearing ASD daughter belly laughing with her friends on FaceTime. She has been on meds for ADHD for 6 weeks and they have worked amazingly well but with the result of her appearing a bit flat/robotic. I gave her a day off meds today and it was lovely to hear her giggling loudly.

Affairnot · 23/04/2023 22:37

Funny weekend clearing a house after a death. However lots of lovely moments, lots of signs of a life lived well- new good mattress, lots of people telling me how loved relative was. Also flat white and carrot cake on a cliff top for breakfast Brew CakeSmile

Campervangirl · 23/04/2023 22:37

Exdp having a snooze on my sofa, he appears to be the only person who didn't know about the government alert test at 3pm.
Both our personal and work phones went off, he jumped up completely dazed, was spinning around shouting wtf is happening.
Not only did I smile I nearly wet myself laughing

MooFroo · 23/04/2023 22:40

Compilation of the funniest clips of the US Office on YouTube 3) only watched it recently and loved it, so was giggling my way through it while on the sofa with a cuppa
